Definitely fits the trend of the organization bumbling and stumbling to try and diagnose an injury for months before finally sending him to a specialist that ends up finding the issue and giving surgery.

The latest news about Casey Mize needing Tommy John surgery makes us re-think, once again, how this rebuilding timeline will play out.

It?s not enough that the Tigers have been getting top prospects due to their tanking strategy.

They also have to develop them properly and keep them healthy.

We can be somewhat reassured that the team has now addressed the poor development process by brooming that department and bringing in all new people with impressive credentials.

Now they need to focus on maintaining their health with an emphasis on preventative care.

But even all of that is not enough.

The Tigers must consider their window of competitiveness. Something they failed to do back in the early-to-mid 2010?s. Something that left them with no rings or flags while players aged or became free agents.

The team has to consider 2 things. First, that they have a strategy for filling the non-pitching, positional roles. Even 2 years from now, there are question marks about who is going to take over at catcher, 2B, 3B and 2 outfield positions. That?s more than half the lineup.....
