2021 Free Agency and Cap Cuts

Because he throws so much against a 6 man box. Fact.

LOL because we couldn't even run against a 6 man box. It was not his fault at all for the poor running game or defense.

Caldwell and Cooter fixed his interceptions big time too

We are going to miss him trotting out Goff with a bad defense and run game. Maybe they'll actually fix them. Oline and Swift/Williams is a great start.

Defense will take a bit longer.

If we never threw against six man boxes, we would NEVER throw the ball. It's just about all we saw due to the fact our running game scared NOBODY!!!

I do think that part of what LKP is saying..... when there is no worry about a teams running game, its easier to game plan. We also didn't scare teams over the top because we didn't have anyone that had that kind of speed.

Imagine being a DC and having to prepare for Detroit or, say, Buffalo. Detroit is going the play the game in a 20 yard box for the most part.....and the threat of an effective running game didn't worry you to the point you needed to put another player near the line.
Where as Buffalo is playing with a 40 yard box WITH the threat of a running game. As a DC.....much harder to account for.

Its not excuse making....but realistically our lack of a running game and lack of a deep attack made defending the field easier against Detroit than most teams. Some of that is scheme.....some of that is personnel.

We got speed added at WR so much, let's see if we have a run game with Swift/Williams and this Oline. The latest of many attempts for a run game and the first with the new regime

A defense gives you more opportunities to complete passes with better field position (especially a defense that forces almost or more than 30 turnovers). Those make it easier to have passing TDs which significantly raise your QB rating.

In Staffords case, he had to go like 80 yards way more than he should and really pass for most of that yardage because the run game wasn't giving him much extra first downs or yardage compared to other QBs/teams. No Derrick Henrys or Dalvin Cook constantly moving the chains. No Aaron Jones with over 5 YPC all season. This is exactly why he wanted out at the regime change. Years upon years of having to do it all himself. The best he could get was a poor mans Kamara with Swift or Riddick catching the ball.

Stafford has had the least run game of any team in the last 10 years and the least turnovers forced by a defense. Fact. It was a bad combo and Lions tried but couldn't fix it for various reasons. Injuries, players getting too old (Tate and Burleson), bad schemes (Joe Lombardi 2014-2015, Cooter 2018, Princes blocking schemes), expiring contracts etc

2011, healthy weapons with like 4 options plus Calvin really surprising people, good protection, 27 turnovers from the defense. 41 TDs

Also more opportunities to miss passes. You don't need tp rehash those early years again, you've done that ad nauseam.

I thought that he was a middle of the pack QB.

And Goff is not middle of the pack? Matt was 82.8 during that stretch. The one thing I heard a lot was he was still young. Oh and the terrible defense yet total point given up we were middle of the pack in '13 and 3 in '14.

I'm just telling you my opinion. Matt is above average. We have years of data on him. I give him a little break for playing on such a shitty team, but not a lot. Goff only has 4 years of data. His teams were very good and I don't think he was asked to do too much early. As McVeigh worked with him, I think more was asked, and he got worse.

Goff may well be better than Matt. I just don't think he is. Like I said, time will tell.

Not trying to get you to abandon your opinion (I still think Matt is outside top ten now) and time tells a lot. Though I have to wonder how when Matt was 26 he was middle of the pack but Goff at 26 is terrible.

I did say that I think he is going to suck in Detroit, but that has a lot to do with the situation he is getting thrown into. New offense, a first time head coach, a defense that is likely to be terrible, very little WR talent, and arguably his top 3 WR being new to the team as well.

Like I said, I could very well be wrong. I probably have only seen him play in about 20 games. He just never really impressed me.

DeSean Hamilton about to be cut by broncos unless they find a trade offer. He might be a 1 here lol... sadly enough.

He would be number 5 here
833 yards amd 5 tds in 3 seasons
And he is built like devonta smith

Tyrell breshad st brown and cephus all clearly better

Seems dumb to trade him but if he can be a starter for someone else you could get a decent pick for him. Last year of contract so probably not paying him long term. Depth is going to stink again though

Vatai is your depth....maybe they like a different guard at RG and Vatai as your swing back up. Logan seems right up their alley.

Dude...hes 206 lbs and 6'1''. He has more talent than tyrell williams and perriman....im telling you guys lol. Hes just stuck behind Jeudy, Hamler, Patrick and Sutton in Denver.

LKP you of all people should remember him tearing up the Lions :D

Dude is skinny. I'm a Penn State and he is talented just hasn't translated.

I'm not opposed to adding him but he wouldn't be our number 1 WR at all or even close. Doubt he would accept a 2 year prove it deal either.
