2023 NFL Draft

So, what you're saying is.....

Good rookies are good to have.

Bad rookies are bad.

Good rookies that get hurt are also bad.

Hold on........taking notes......don't want to forget this.........OK. Got it. Thank you.

It wouldn't be adding a QB that would bother me. It would bother me if we waste good draft capital to bring in a player that cannot help immediately when we could use that pick on a player that can.

Draft is long term though. If you want immediate impact, sign a extra good FA on defense. Good CBs 2 FA and actual good LB in FA. Then taking a QB would make so much sense.

And since FA is before the draft, we will know the real holes; but you don't draft just to fill holes. The point really is Holmes better be good at picking QBs (and get some luck). And we need the coaching to develop them too. Goff has been fixed a decent amount. Can Johnson and Brunell do the same for a rookie and develop them. Lions will get good enough to not rely so heavily on rookies so enough.

It's less about goffs play for me. It's more about his cap hit. We're still building this team. 30mil for goff makes zero sense... if they can figure out how to make the money work then fine. But if the number is 30 mill... I'd rather have a rookie.

You?d rather have a rookie?..someone you have NO IDEA how good they will be at the NFL level?.. than a cap hit we can EASILY take, still have $60M to spend, and can keep a very good offense together?

That?s stupid. Like, really dumb.

He's average at best. Don't let the last few home games sway you. He's the worst qb in the league away. 30 mil for playing well half the season isn't a good business move.

Last few games haven?t fooled me. Goff is solid but unspectacular. I?d rather have him over any of the rookies NEXT YEAR.

$30M for Goff is too much?..but if the rookie you?re counting on is bad, or just not ready (see Josh Allen?s rookie year?.yikes) then you?re throwing away an entire season with a team that has proven it can compete.

That's why I said to get the rookie 2 years ago. Holmes didn't listen to me...

Isn't Goff's cap hit the next 2 years reasonable compared to other starting qb's in the league ? He will make way less then say Stafford.
Lions have 3 years control on Goff. Let's just see what happens. Be excellent at home, and strive for. 500 on the road. Maybe pick a qb in the later rounds. If you put a rookie in the starting lineup next season it may take 1-3 years to get him winning games regularly. Then all these going guys will be needed new deals.
Hopefully Goff plays better on the road over the next four games .

Among QBs, Goff is 11th highest in 2023 and 10th highest in 2024. Isn't as bad as I thought.

Huge game tomorrow with top 3 pick implications for Detroit. Den v Rams. Go broncos!

Lions anywhere from 3 to 7 depending if rams win or lose.

Goff/Rams pick/next year first rounder for Lamar Jackson. Pay the man and be ready to compete for more than a lucky playoff birth.

If I'm the Lions, I would rather keep Goof. Jackson can't stay healthy.

They still have far too many defensive holes to invest 50 million plus 2 1st rounders. Detroit already has a top 5 offense both scoring and yardage with Goff and the worst defense in points and yards allowed. Why people keep thinking Goff is the problem amazes me.

Defense needs so many spots. Corner, safety, linebacker, linemen sadly.

Goff is a game manager. Misses a lot if throws, especially the potential big play throw.

Hypothetically, if we did pull off the trade I purposed for Lamar. We still could have (6) starters on D that we drafted in the 1st and 2nd round the past 3 years including this upcoming draft. Plus Okudoh. The $50 million I would look at more as $20 million when you consider Goff is on the books for $30.

I don?t want to accuse anyone of anything but I know if I was Lamar, I wouldn?t give the Ravens 17 games. I wouldn?t risk a major injury when I?m close to securing $200 million.

Lamar want's Deshawn Watson money (guaranteed). No way in hell I would pay him that kind of money. He really isn't a very good thrower of the ball. He's a freak athlete but couldn't finish last year (only played 12 games) and hasn't played the past 2 weeks because of injury.

Imagine how electric Ford Field would be, the excitement and buzz leading up to our games. We would have Sunday Night/Monday Night prime time games. Playoff home games. Lamar alone would generate $250 million for the organization the next 5 years. We would be winning football games and have arguably the most exciting player in the league. We haven?t had that since the 90?s.

We?ve been losing for so long it seems some people are scared to make the sacrifice to win!
