then why is Houston drafting clowney when they need a QB?.

Don't normally agree with Alex, but I do here. Clowney and Watt would destroy offensive lines. They also have the first pick in the 2nd round. Easy QB pick there. Or go after a WR to pair with a short term solution vet QB. They could probably give up a pick for Cousins.

nice bail. they need a QB. if they are supposed to draft by need in 1st, then they draft QB. Clowney is the BPA pure and simple.

But DE is actually a need for them. Their luxury is that one of their need positions is bpa. TE is not a need position for us and Ebron is not good enough to overcome the concept of drafting on need through bpa. Our needs are LB, CB, DE, DT, WR, S. Some of those needs are greater than others, so my guess is they will go with BPA from those positions, but they will weigh taking a lower ranked player to fill a greater need if their rank is close enough.

thats why i was screaming for Gilbert/Denarrd and trading down. we need to fix our depth problems an secondary is the biggest followed closely by WR

that's fine and all but we need to see who is available when on the clock. just to say get this guy or that guy and pass on a better player when you have 5 picks is not wise.

yes and no. you have to know who the real BPA's are. We may draft that way but doesn't turn out so.

We're not about about a TE being the BPA by a ton. If that was the case I could get on board..but Ha Ha for example, he's good and a need. So I'd go his way before Ebron.

Im not so sure and I am not an expert. I just think Ebron is the more dynamic player overall and adds a weapon the Lions have been missing for a long time. Plus side is he fits what they are trying to do offensive sceam wise. I would be ok with Ha Ha but I think Ebron provides more value at that pick.

I don't see value because we just signed Pettigrew. Take Ebron and Pettigrew is a wasted sign.

I agree with you Mitch. There are other needs we can fill while still taking one of the best available players.

Jdeb, if we hadn't resigned Pettigrew, then I'd definitely be up for drafting Ebron. But since we did resign him, it would make no sense to have Pettigrew, Ebron, Fauria, and Williams all on the roster. And if you cut Williams, then Pettigrew is our best blocker since that's a weakness for both Ebron and Fauria.

I'd draft Gilbert, Haha, or even Aaron Donald before I'd draft Ebron.

take haha and ihedigbo is a wasted sign. Pettigrew has been a waste of space since hes been here. Mayhew is just too dumb to realize it....

Huge difference in contracts between ihitahippo and pettigrew. Plus, i am pretty sure i remember most on here yawning when we signed him to replace delmas in the secondary.

He's more depth at S, at least that's what I think. I don't look at him as a starter.

Eric Ebron - TE - Player
North Carolina TE Eric Ebron said he believes the Lions will draft him.
Ebron, the consensus No. 1 tight end in the draft, visited Detroit last week. He'd be an athletic, downfield option to complement current plodders Brandon Pettigrew and Joseph Fauria. We highly doubt Ebron is privy to the Lions' draft plans, but it's clear they're intent on further upgrading Matthew Stafford's weaponry -- possibly as early as No. 10 overall. They've also been linked to a fistful of first-round wideout prospects.

do Teams like the lions use smokescreens to mask what their true intentions are??? so that their player falls to their spot??

Congrats jdeb for being ahead of the curve. I think Ebron is option C.

Option A - Trade up for Watkins...No deal in place yet as it is still early but I think they are infatuated with him (rightly so). Here is what it may take to trade up. I know the value chart has been argued ad nauseam but here is another to go on (even the article says values are all over the board and teams use their own judgement).

Option B - Mike Evans...there is a chance he doesn't fall to 10. A few updated mocks now have him going before then. They want to have a third option in case that happens, which is where jdeb's boy comes in.

Option C - Eric Ebron...no one is comparing Pettigrew and Fauria to Jimmy Graham. Lombari wants Jimmy Graham. They also likely saw all the open seam misses by Stafford and know that we can attack it with the safeties deep. His knocks are inconsistent hands and a lack of red zone presence...only 4 tds I think? That is where Fauria comes in.
