I started looking at Donald recently when I looked at the likelihood of Fairley being gone, also to clarify I think Suh will end up getting a huge deal and stay with us. But Donald is a weird case study. If you look at his senior tape he jumps out as a motor guy with massive production and seemed unblockable at times. Then you look at him and I just don't know if he can transition. He is a tweener in a spot where it doesn't work for him. He is the size of a DE but not athletic enough but has played DT in college. Also gotta remember the ACC isn't known for their olineman. NFL Guards are 320 he is 288. That 40 pounds could mean alot.

Rate these players in terms of who is BPA. I'll put in alphabetical order
Clowney
Donald
Ebron
Evans
Gilbert
Lewan
Mack
Watkins

Clowney - once a decade de talent
Watkins - best offensive weapon in draft
Mack - great pass rushing skills and plays with great fundamentals in pass and rush defense. Value drops cause hes a LB.
Lewan - Hes a starting LT in the league...value will always be high for those.
Donald - Tons of production behind the LOS. Distruptive in the backfiled.
Ebron - 2nd best offensive weapon in the draft. Causes match up problems.
Gilbert - best corner and probably the most athletic player in draft
Evans - I rate him lower than most. I just don't see it. Every play in his highlight reals are back shoulder streaks and jump balls. Rarely do I ever see him cause separation cause of the route he ran. Manziel always caused the separation for him by extending the play. Id put about 4 Wrs infront of him.

most 4-3 DTs are around 295-300.....288 isn't much to worry about imo.

Blah blah blah you are highly misinformed on the actual events that occured, blah blah blah continue to be an idiot.

That's okay because idiot is allowed. The misinformed one is the one who thinks we were as good as the Seahawks because we beat them 3 years okay. You talk about CJ missing two games and yet their number one was out the whole season. Better depth..that's not injuries or bad luck it's better GM.

Again you are misinformed. Their team is not built around Harvin. Turnovers and Lynch for Seattle. And Tate did a good job as the forced number 1 and is now a Lion. Talk about fixing an issue if thats the case.

Our team was built around Calvin but we can run the balll and make stops too. And it wasn't just Calvin, it was Calvin and another weapon and the run game was junk with Waddle hurt. 3 players, not just Calvin.

It's not just the fact we beat Seattle, it's position by position Detroit matches up with Seattle quite well. You are misinformed in thinking I am basing this solely off 2012 Lions victory.

Despite signing free-agent safety James Ihedigbo and re-signing cornerback Rashean Mathis, the Detroit Lions still have plenty of holes in their secondary.

So says ESPN draft analyst Mel Kiper Jr.

In an ESPN Insider piece, Kiper identified the top needs for all 32 teams.

For the Lions, who hold the 10th overall pick in next month's draft, Kiper’s list looks like this:
Cornerback
Safety
Receiver
Outside linebacker

The Lions' defense ranked 25th in the league in passing yards allowed per game last season despite having one of the best defensive fronts in the NFL. So, help on the back end of the defense remains a need.

"The Lions will hope to get some development out of young players Darius Slay and Bill Bentley, but that doesn't diminish the need here given their performance in 2013, when veteran Rashean Mathis was often the best corner on the field," Kiper wrote.

In his most recent mock draft , Kiper had the Lions taking the top safety in the draft -- Alabama's Ha Ha Clinton-Dix.

"James Ihedigbo has been added, but he was allowed to walk away by Baltimore, and the addition of high-level talent would be useful here," Kiper wrote. "A free safety at No. 10 shouldn't be out of the question. Anything the Lions can do to improve in coverage would be good."

The Lions also made a significant addition at receiver, signing free agent Golden Tate.

"But another target on the outside besides Kris Durham and a hopefully healthy Ryan Broyles would be useful," Kiper wrote.

As for outside linebacker, Kiper wrote: "Currently part-timer Ashlee Palmer is slotted as a potential starter, so the Lions could look to add help to go with Stephen Tulloch and DeAndre Levy."

The team isn't built around him because they have depth and many good players.
Only an idiot GM would build a team around a WR. Ooh Calvin's out we're fucked..

It wasn't just Calvin out. This team is built around a passing game in a passing league with pass rushers on defense. Smart way to build a team by Mayhew.

Lions have plenty of depth at CB,S,Tackle,RB,TE,DT and DE.

Depth in the secondary? Every time someone got hurt back there that would be one of your many excuses why they lost. Just becasue you have backup players doesn't mean you have depth.

TE...all depth no quality

RB....depth but running game still non-existent in many losses

Built with pass rushers....why were the Lions so far down on the list in terms of sacks and passing yards allowed?

Round 1 Pick 10: Justin Gilbert, CB, Oklahoma State (A)
Round 2 Pick 13: Scott Crichton, DE, Oregon State (A)
Round 3 Pick 12: Martavis Bryant, WR, Clemson (A-)
Round 4 Pick 11: Bryan Stork, C, Florida State (B+)
Round 4 Pick 33 (COMP): Ahmad Dixon, SS, Baylor (A)
Round 4 Pick 36 (COMP): Aaron Murray, QB, Georgia (A)
Round 6 Pick 13: Devon Kennard, OLB, Southern California (A-)
Round 7 Pick 12: Justin Britt, OT, Missouri

Lions got plenty of pressure. Top 5 in pressure. TE is quality and depth, same with RB.

Lions had no WR depth. And it cost them. I never said secondary depth cost them other than the Steelers game which was concentrated injuries getting to 4th string. CBs playing hurt cost them.

I can see some of that going down. Unfortunately, won't get us a playoff win

1. Anthony Barr, OLB, UCLA
2. Jordan Matthews, WR, Vanderbilt
3. Deone Buchanon, S, Washington State
4a. Bryan Stork, C, Florida St.
4b. Morgan Breslin, DE, USC
4c. Will Sutton, DT, Arizona St.
6. Dakota Dozier, OG, Furman
7. Anthony Fera, K, Texas

on my #2 choice, Jordan MAtthews, I am watching NFL live now with Mel and Todd. Todd McShay is comparing Jordan Matthews to Eric Decker
