Round 1 Pick 10: Justin Gilbert, CB, Oklahoma State (A)
Round 2 Pick 13: Scott Crichton, DE, Oregon State (A)
Round 3 Pick 12: Martavis Bryant, WR, Clemson (A-)
Round 4 Pick 11: Bryan Stork, C, Florida State (B+)
Round 4 Pick 33 (COMP): Ahmad Dixon, SS, Baylor (A)
Round 4 Pick 36 (COMP): Aaron Murray, QB, Georgia (A)
Round 6 Pick 13: Devon Kennard, OLB, Southern California (A-)
Round 7 Pick 12: Justin Britt, OT, Missouri

I really want Murray to be a Lion. Quality career. Good arm. Smart. I think he'll be a starter in the league someday.....hopefully not with Detroit, though.

like this draft hippo...

im having a hard time deciding on Crichton or kareem martin for my rd 2 DE. Trading the Bryant and Stork slots to move up for Moncrief is still an option I like too..

I'm in the same boat with Martin and Crichton. If we got either I would be happy. I really want Stork to be our starting center in 2015 if not sooner.

that's why i've been a little adamant about getting one. Raiola has improved with the help of 2 great guards. he can tutor Stork to replace him in 2015/16

So you want a QB just so we can release in a few years to become a starter elsewhere?

It's not hard to understand guys.

I think he'll be a good QB. If he starts long term in Detroit it's because Stafford didn't pan out. A couple of successful starts over the next couple years and trade him for a high pick.

Buy low, sell high......pretty simple.

Good insurance policy in the mean time.

Like Washington with Cousins.

That easy eh? lmao.

Stafford really has to suck to fuck up this offense. One of the better rb tandems in the nfl, great oline, best wr in the game, top tier fa wr.......if he fails miserably yet again im all for dumping him for any random 4th rd qb...I don't give a fuck who it is. $94 mil means you better succeed given ALLL of those additions to your offense.

I agree that Stafford is set up to succeed as long as Tate and Calvin are both healthy. If one of them gets hurt and Durham is our next WR, then Mayhew needs to get fired. If Stafford plays poorly the Lions need to explore other options.

But referring to your statement above, this is the 1st time I've ever seen you say that the O-line is GREAT. I just find it kind of interesting that when referring to what Stafford has to work with you say the O-line is great, but all other times you say they played well, but are unproven since he got the ball out so quickly. Little bit of twisting the facts to fit your argument?

And for the record, I'd say they performed very well last year overall, but I agree that they usually weren't required to pass block for long periods of time.

Durham will be an afterthought when they draft another stud WR. Absolutely loaded this years draft...

Drafted WR should move Durham to 5th string hopefully(battling with Ogletree who I like better) and Broyles to backup slot. Tate and the 3rd WR(rookie) get hurt missing 7 and 8 games respectively like Burleson and Broyles did last year, well Durham could get 80 targets again if he beats out Ogeltree.

Battling for 5th string with Ogletree only happens if Broyles is healthy, which I find hard to believe that he'll be able to contribute for at least the 1st half of the season, if ever again. Two ACLs and an achilles are extremely tough to come back from. So in all likelihood Durham is battling with Ogletree for the #4 spot.

And there's no way that Ogletree should get beat out by Durham since he'll have had an entire offseason with the Lions now.

It truly is both...I cant argue their numbers weren't great. Gave up very few sacks and the run game was excellent. But how quick we got the ball out could have masked their deficiencies....not sure how that will translate to the new offense.

I'm not sure who we draft but I don't see $tafford as sucking with just CJ but he's "able to succeed" with an added Tate.

Tate won't make him go from an average QB to a good QB.

You're entitled to your opinion, but I think the addition of Tate, as well as new coaches to work with him can easily get him to go from average to good.

Not the way I saw him throw last year or the year before. But we might never know because I believe they get a WR in round 1 or 2.

yes...its another mock thread. But now that all the comp picks have been assigned, were pretty much done in FA and the draft is STILL over a month away I figured now is as good a time as any.

Needs by position (not in any order of importance):

Qb - Hill is gone....need a back up. How good Stafford is has been heavily debated on this board...but one thing is clear.....any new first time OC will want to pick a guy he can groom. Even if it means that guy is a back up.

Rb - were good

WR - Tate signing gave us a nice complement to CJ....but we still need depth at the position. A skilled deep threat that can take the top off would be a bonus

TE - really wanted a new one via draft but with Pettigrew being resigned and Fauria on the roster I don't think it gets addressed.

Oline - I find the RT need to be greater than most it seems on this board. I think Waddles weaknesses were hidden by how fast we got the ball out. If Stafford is going to improve he needs longer in the pocket to make the correct read...its not proven our line can do that consistently. Others seem to think Crayolas replacement is a heavy need....I don't.

Dline - depth is a concern at DE and DT. DT could be a major future concern with fairleys option not being pickd up and suhs contract status still up in the air.

LB - Palmer meh. Tully is consistent but how long can he do it for? Levy had his first good season of his career last year...can he repeat the production?

CB - We have a ton of depth...its just filled with less than quality starters and even worse back ups. Improving the quality should be a focus...not adding more bodies. New DC is a secondary guy...can he improve our less than stellar unit?

S - We signed Ihebobbleheadgo to play next to Quin. But hes over 30 and we have no depth. Need someone to groom.

Picks:

No. 10 (first round;)
Justin Gilbert CB
Im using the 10th pick to upgrade the worst unit on the team. Gilberts size and athleticism reminds me a lot of Patrick Peterson. Hes not the best tackler and sometimes relies on his speed over form/fundamentals. Huge return ability. Trades up or down welcome.

No. 45 (second round, 13th pick)
Kareem Martin, DE
Focus here is the defense....stopping teams so were not forced to air it out with Stafford should be a main focus for this team. Martin is a great combo of size and speed. He was productive for UNC at 270 lbs. Big body made a lot of plays for them in the backfiled vs the run.

***Trade option***
We trade our 3rd and 4th round picks to move back into the 2nd to grab:
Donte Moncrief, WR
Great production in the SEC. his 4.4 flat speed at the combine surprised a lot of people for a 6'2'' WR. Definitely can hold his own on the outside....buzz has him as a poor man's demaryius Thomas. Stafford no longer has any excuses for sucking ass. This guys projections are all over the map as far as where hes going to go in the draft. If hes still on the board mid to late 2nd round I have no issues pulling the trigger now that we have 2 comp picks in the 4th for depth.

No. 76 (third round, 12th pick)
Martavis Bryant, WR
Well over 6'3'' with blazing speed. Would pair nicely opposite CJ with Tate on the field.

No. 111 (fourth round, 11th pick)
Ahmad Dixon, S
Safety depth so we don't have to see Carey on the field ever again. Speed and size. Hits are brutal. Good ball skills.

No. 133 (fourth round, 33rd pick)
Tom Savage, QB
Need a back up. Good QB size. Strong arm. Age could hurt him.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DqnwiSLXrdI

No. 136 (fourth round, 36th pick)
Anthony Johnson, DT Nice DT depth with future potential to grow into a starting role.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lvR1SnusS1M

No. 189 (sixth round, 13th pick)
Kicker...preferably one that makes FGs

No. 227 (seventh round, 12th pick)
Who Cares....

this weird thing happens every year that guys I like in my mock start to rise late lol. No one ever said anything about tom savage....now all of a sudden hes potentially the 3rd or 4th qb off the board. HOU supposedly has him on their radar for the 2nd rd pick.
