Avril Has Little Leverage

Still, explain how I was making shit up? Because that is what you called me out for.

I don't think he'll get it either. I never said that. But he clearly asked for it in public, whether it was genuine or not.

He used the words "? want 12 mill a year"? You`re assuming he`s asking for that much.

He has no leverage, he'll have to accept what the Lions offer or risk another one year deal.

He'll get around $9 million per year IMO.

But there's a reason a deal hasn't been done yet.

I agree!!!

9m too much imo. As I posted above, I'd offer him 4 years, 23M 10 Guarantee. That's it

But he wasn`t QUOTED saying he wants 12 per. He used 2 players as guidelines who got PAID. Am i wrong?

Maybe i`m just stubborn...lol.

Close enough.

I hope he gets signed, honestly. I don't want him to be a FA again, especially with all the other FAs they have on defense next year. $9 million a year. I've said it for months.

Ok, no, but he really did say he wants the money they got. There are more quotes out there but they're pretty much the same thing. What is the difference?

As I pointed out, he might be better to play under the tag for $10.6 and take his chances.. Mitch your only offering $10 guaranteed, he surpasses that in one year even if he blows out his knee during the season

Yeah well. I'd be lying if I said I understood the way contracts work and what good numbers were for a DE.

Big difference.

We agree to disagree. We`re both not budging on the subject. We can keep going on the subject and look like a couple of jerkoffs or we can just let it go.

I choose option #2.

Yes, agree to disagree.

At least we agree on what he's worth

None of us really know...

Peppers got around 14 mil per year IIRC. But that was two years ago.

Williams got 16 mil this offseason, right?

Charles Johnson with $12.

Statistically, Avril has outplayed Johnson for years, so you can't really blame him for wanting that kind of money.

Of course, you could point out a smarter team like Philadelphia getting Babin for next to nothing relative to these deals. Something like 5 years, $25 million?

That we do.

I just get all riled up when people say we would do fine with LoJack and Young. How so? Jackson has been a 1st rd bust who didn`t do shit until the Lions picked him up. He fits our system perfectly. A quality backup DE who plays the run better than most. And occasionally will get to the QB because of fresh legs. That`s my take on the guy.

As for Young? C`mon, this guy would be irrelevant if not for a couple of big sacks in his young career. One against the Cowboys, the other i don`t remember. He`s a young, undersized, high motor DE. He`ll NEVER be a starter in this league but he FITS our system.

These 2 players DO NOT replace Avril. It will NEVER happen. Suh is not Reggie White...not yet...lol

That's the one I remember, the Babin deal. It was a steal.

I agree Tony that Young will not likely be a starter but he is one he'll of a change up on passing downs. The guy has one of the best get offs in the league. So much so I think he is jumping the snap sometimes but I don't think he's ever been called for offsides. If a team is down and needs to pass on us leave him in there and turn him loose. I don't think he fits our system though as well as a 3-4. He would be one of the best 3-4 olbs in the league if you let him develop. Special talent in my books but not someone you count on for 60 snaps a game at de.

sacks, forced fumbles....yes.....what about stats against the run???? Avril is terrible, unlike the other 3 mentioned

Probably a little premature but everette brown will also be in the mix, schwartz compares him to a young Avril.

What other 3? LoJack might be better against the run. That's it!! You're telling me Young is too? You kidding me? He's a '3rd down rush the QB' specialist. That's all, bro...lol.

Who's the 3rd guy?

I'm not saying i don't like Young or dislike him. I really haven't seen shit from him. That's the honest truth. Yeah, he's got some giddy-up like you say but to say he would be a stud OLB is a little nuts, no? The same was said about Avril a little while back on these boards or the ESPN boards. Hell, ithink i was on board with that..lol. And Avril played some LB in college. Did Young?

Yep. There ya go. Another bust from another NFL team cast aside. The Lions LOVE these type of guys.
