Brett Kavanaugh

Can't they change their votes by tomorrow or don't they do that?

They could, but I wouldn't hold my breath. It's tough to imagine what type of intervention it would take to get anyone to change their mind.

The unexpected thing here is that this seems to have energized republicans. Polls on who was planning to vote saw a big democrat advantage before this. I thought it might be a ploy to try to get republicans to say things that would further democrat energy to work towards getting the vote out (the timing is what I thought was strategic, not Ford's accusation, but when Feinstein decided to go public with it.) Instead, it's the republicans that got the boost.

It seems to me the optics are the Democrats over play their hand. It went from decades old sexual assault allegations, but the timing of which sniffed of a completely partisan play, all the way to that guy is unfit because when he was a college he once threw ice at a guy.

As far as his judicial record goes I don?t really know how to evaluate a persons judicial record.

This is what happens when you mess with Trump, you get his side of the electorate fired up. Happy to see these idiots keep making the same mistakes.

Only if they are damn sure of their seats - they know what will happen if they vote against this, especially if they led Rs to believe they had their vote then changed it last minute.

don't forget the "unhinged rage" he showed at the hearing. Although I'm sure if he'd been calm and measured, they would have said he was indifferent or didn't protest enough. No matter what his reaction, it would have been the wrong one.

Collins and Flake ain?t going to change their minds.

Manchin would probably lose his upcoming election if he did.

Even if he did it change, the tie-breaking vote would fall to Pence

I kinda don?t like that he brought up the Clintons - I saw that as being somewhat undisciplined.

As far as him being somewhat pissed off, at the allegations out of the woodwork and his intense grilling, I kind of understand that.

I remember President Clinton getting pissed off from time to time when he was pressed on shit.

Great post.

He feels personally attacked over "revenge on behalf of the Clintons, and millions of dollars in money from outside left-wing opposition groups." And now, for the rest of his life, he's supposed to somehow rule on issues without bias.

Yeah.

That’s why I don’t like that he brought it up.

Undisciplined and completely unnecessary.

Being angry that the opposition had dragged his name through the mud was completely understandable.

Bringing up the Clintons was undisciplined.

Had nothing to do with the confirmation and it will be used as a weapon to hold over the court’s head On any close and major decision going forward.

thats right, but i do like seeing the enthusiasm gap tightening and Rs odds of retaining control improving. good try though.
I've heard it discussed in a religious context. Whether you are the ideas and beliefs you hold in your head or if you are defined by your actions and whether or not those two things can be different. If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck might be applicable too. Maybe "Trump supporter" as a noun is something you don't want to apply to yourself. But "support" as a verb describes an action that you do, for Trump, really consistently.

kind of like how assigning motive to my actions is something you do really consistently?

I'm not the one giving credit to Trump for the closure of the enthusiasm gap - that's being talked about by anyone and everyone who cites these polls. The fact that I say I'm happy the gap is closing, regardless of the reason, doesn't make me a trump supporter. Nor does citing the fact or at least the common belief that the gap is closing because these actions by congress are riling his base, just like the negative coverage did in 2016.

I'm a conservative, I'm disappointed that Trump and Congress haven't done more of what I'd like to see happen, but I like a lot of what he has done. For example, I happen to like Brett Kavanaugh and think he would be a good justice (he was my third choice, but top 3 is still pretty good). I certainly don't see the point in coming here to pile on with all the TDS sufferers everytime he does something I don't care for or something that doesn't surprise me. I tend to speak up when I here the groupthink TDS morons freaking out of nothing or misprepresenting something to fit their agenda. Or, as in this case, I stand up to refute all the BS hurled at Kavanaugh - because I like Kavanaugh, not Trump. If it helps, I admit I dislike him less than I did before he became President of the United States. If you think that makes me a Trump supporter, that's fine - in your mind, I'm a Trump supporter. That doesn't really matter to me or change my opinion of him.

I don't have any clue what your motives are. For example, I just wrote a couple lines about the distinction between motives and actions and said something specifically about your actions. You responded with this accusation that I do the exact opposite. I have no idea why.
