Caldwell's Staff

My only concern with the ST was blocked FGs. I'm not sure where the blame falls on that one, but it's something that needs work.

Akers was awful. I blame him. Ross looked like a stud and we could cover kicks for the first time in years.

Akers missed 5(3 counted) and had 2 blocked (Zona/Cincy). 2 missed didn't count. Zona penalty and Vikings penalty. Martin is the kickoff man. Akers allowed nice return to Jacoby Jones(before Tucker 61 yarder) and the Giants in OT on a short kick.

New kicker in 2014.

The wide 9 wasn't the problem last year. It was a problem with scheme. We couldn't blitz effectively and we couldn't cover....ever. So the wide 9 is fine with me but something on the backend needs to be worked out. Our best cover guy was a lb. We couldn't play man or zone. We still didn't try to press and gave up to much cushion. Underneath throws killed us in every game which lead to corners biting and getting beat deep. Then our safeties were always out of position because we kept them short to try and break up short middle throws. Nothing we did was effective except run defense which got ruined in the only game we needed it to come up big for us.

pressure defense has shown to be the most effective with the type of personel we have. The great steelers teams never had a great secondary but could press the wrs and pressure the qb with schemes same for the great ravens defenses and even when the giants won their superbowls. Great secondaries arent needed to win but the ability to win the LOS and hit the qb will always reign supreme. We can do that but the schemes have been poor. You can't always get to the qb with 4 guys running straight at the oline. Stunts sometimes take to long. You need to be able to rush guys from all over even if you still only bring 4. Thats why a 3-4 D is so effective. 4-3 can be just as effective but you need to run zone blitzes and move guys around. If our new DC can be inventive we might win a few. Won't that be nice.

I've updated the first post, not 100% sure that those coaches were retained for the same position.
