Camp Cuts

What's your analysis of the touchdown he gave up this weekend? I posted the video in my last reply.

Only completion. But bad play by him. Got turned around like a top. I don't judge a guy on one play though

I agree, you shouldn't judge a guy by one play, but his overall play hasn't been great this preseason.

It has been good. Low targets and good coverage for the most part

Ok, well let's hope that if he's called upon that he plays well, because CB is one of the weakest spots on the team. And if you disagree with that statement, what position(s) do you think are the weakest?

Holeless. Mathis and Slay are not weak with good depth. No issues at all in the pre-season with them.

Good news we signed two more TE's

One was signed as a FB and the other is a great blocker. Both of them are here for their blocking. And both will probably be let go. You can never have enough camp bodies...

Thompson and Maxwell haven't shown anything at TE. Might as well give Egnew a crack in this last game. And Owens got hurt last game and we cut Abram so take a look at another FB. Though it's clearly Collins job.

You have no idea what Slay will be like this season. Mathis has had a few decent years but is getting up there in age. He would likely be a #3 CB in a good defensive backfield. There are HUGE question marks with this secondary.

Mathis is a good number 2. He played like one last year. Slay is not a hole. He's a talent that fits the scheme and was a high Round 2 pick. We are set at CB.

Unless Mathis' wheels fall off which is very possible, almost probable.

It's nowhere near probable. Probably is hater talk. He did well in his 30s last year. Playing well now. Has technique, experience can press and still plenty fast.

Barring serious injury or lack of talent, why do you think most nfl players don't play into their mid 30s?

The key word is talent. He has talent. Hasn't really played all that well this preseason. He was absolute trash last year. I don't know why you are so confident he is going to be so good this year. I think he has a chance because he has the talent to be good, but he has shown nothing as of yet.

And I still don't see the depth you keep talking about. Mathis and Slay are the only CBs that we have that would definitely get picked up by a team if we cut them.

Nevin Lawson probably would because of his age.

Didn't Mathis sit unsigned last year for months and no one wanted him until we picked him off the trash pile during the preseason.
