Camp Cuts

yup ....so good we were ranked 28th or worse in pass defense most the year. great job.

I don't look at just yards like you. Solid in comp %, TDs allowed, ints and YPA. Best in 3rd down stops (since 2006 for all teams) and good in redzone.

And plus there is the context of the two Houston injuries causing big plays and Delmas taking bad angles giving up a ton of YPC (most in league).

Mathis coming back is a huge plus for us.

comp% 12th
TDs 13th
YPA 20th
INT 17th
Yards per game 23rd
QB Rating 19th
Sacks 28th
yards sack for loss 18th

Solid. And 3rd downs best in league. Redzone top 3 I believe. Ints were 15th not 17th but mostly LBs/safeties.

And again the context of the Houston injuries and Delmas allowing big plays.

they had 15 INTs...tied with Dallas & INDY for 17th.

I wouldn't call them solid. Overall, they were below average. Only a few categories where they were above 15

Above 15 in all important ones. Redzone, 3rd down way above. TDs allowed and comp %. More than solid secondary. And far and away best in the division too. Bears, Packers, Vikings all were terrible last year.

The yards were due to injuries to Houston and Delmas for some huge plays.

And now Slay year 2, obvious improvement and Mathis was the least of the least of the problems. Same with Quin.

They kept all the good, made the scheme way better and added a more sure safety in Ihedigbo over big hit Delmas.

Levy was second in the league in ints last year.

Linebacker...

I would love to see a 5+ INT guy in the lions deep secondary.. Stop
sugar coating a very poor secondary.. This Lions as a team had only 15
INT's last year good for 18th in the league.. Seattle had 28.. I would
like our defense at 20+ int's next season...

Plus we only recovered 7 fumbles... 26th in the league.. That number
really has to improve...

Good bench mark
Seattle had 28 Int's and 11 fumble recovery's for 39 total.
Lions had 15 Int's and only 7 fumble recovery's for 22 total..

I don't see that. For one I can't see Levy with 6 again. Secondly, the secondary is a mix and match of old dude and unproven youth. They might have less..

That's "solid????" No, solid is top 10. Those stats are all in the bottom half of the league. That's not solid.

It will be hard for Levy to hit that number again.. Someone else has to step up for sure.

1st in 3rd down stops, 2nd in redzone D. That's great. Overall it's solid. TDs 13th and comp 12th. Definitely solid.

Top 10 is good
Top 5 is elite.

You select a few stats that aren't below average or bad and you call them solid. Are the stats you are cherry picking even passing stats or overall defensive stats?

Bullshit... The defense was way below average last season..

Here is a stat
Lions defense ranked 30th in the NFL with 22 takeaways...

Lions offense ranked 2nd in the league in giveaways with 34..

Combined the two and the Lions were a -12 good for 30th in the league...

My guess is less fumbles and INT's by the offense and some more on the defense
would be a good thing :)

Most of the important ones are above average or average other than turnovers forced.

Comp %, TDs allowed, points allowed

3rd down and redzone are huge. Best and top 3 in league.

Screw yards.

It's a good thing turnovers and sacks aren't important, eh? Lol.

I mentioned turnovers dummy. Lions top 5 in pressure overall. That's the most important of all. And had good comp % and ints and TDS allowed, better than league average when the opposing QB under pressure.

Lions defense is solid despite the Houston injuries and Slay's rookie bumps.

Aggressive scheme, Slay year 2, Ihedigbo in the box and blitzing, upgrade at the SAM with Whitehead/Van Noy. Looking like a top 10 defense year for Detroit.

So for a defense it is about completion %, points and how you do in the redzone. Screw yards.

But when you talk about Stafford you like to point out how many yards he has....marching them down the field! You discount his low completion percentage.

Stafford I talk about TDs and 3rd down %. Both very good and top 6. And that's why Stafford is a good QB. I've never mentioned solely yards for Stafford like you idiots mention solely passing defense yards.
