cap raised

report is 140 next year and 150! the year after that.

That probably means teams will overpay players. I hope it doesn't go too high..What's the point of a cap if it's so high..? Might just make it like baseball.

Brandon Pettigrew just shit his pants. He's gonna get elite TE money somewhere......god, I hope it isn't in Detroit.

Slightly better than average TE.......will get paid like he's Tony fucking Gonzalez.

That said..... with all this unexpected space....bring on a Suh extension and a legit #2 WR (Maclin or Decker) and draft...

1. Ha Ha
2. Shazier/Van Noy
3. Keith McGill
4. ??
6. ??
7. ??

Ha Ha would be there at 10 for sure.....and could be there later of a trade down scenario presents itself. Shazier would probably be gone by round 2.....if so, slot in Van Noy. He adds a pass rusher on the outside opposite Levy for the pressure Austin said he is going to bring. Worst case scenario, McGill moves to S in a couple years. Has the size (6'3" 211 lbs) and speed (4.51) to be elite.

The top three in the draft shore up and add depth to the defense. rounds 4-7 could do the same for the offense. A center and a slot WR.

My $.02

You risk the chance of losing Suh if you do that. However, that might be what's necessary to get this team cap friendly for the future.

Personally, with a little extra cap room....if they do extend Suh.....I'd like to see them make a run at an experienced #2 WR. No more guessing games in the draft. Decker or Maclin. Get a promising slot guy in the middle rounds and a DE and CB or S at the top of the draft.

maclin resigned with philly

Hmmmm.....missed that.

Decker if he doesn't ask too much. We'll have the space with the higher cap and a Suh extension. But other than him, I would explore a trade for an established veteran. I would have concerns drafting any WR not named Watkins this year. Such a big risk to take at 10..... And WAY too many misses in recent memory.

i see a few options in the second.

No doubt there are WR coming out this year that will be great. There will be a number of busts too.....

I'd like to see the Lions take a look at an established player at the position. Stop the merry go round of WR that are supposed to be the next John Taylor and bring in a player with a known skill set.

Not pulling the trigger on the Josh Gordon for a 2nd rounder was a huge mistake....let's not back it up with drafting another.

Besides, if we take a WR in the 2nd, Hughes might blow up the internet with his current 2nd rounder/Titus/Broyles comparisons that would surely follow.

The pessimist in me thinks this is all for Jerry Jones and Dan Snyder.

That doesn't make you a pessimist.....it makes you a conspiracy theorist.

And if that were the case, what would a "Matt Millen is still our GM" 2014 salary cap look like.......$210M??....$220M??

Ive been clamoring for a WR to be picked in rds 2-4 this year...maybe 2 of them. The change in heart is based on the need. Picking broyles in rd 2 when he was never going to be more than the 4th wr on the field was dumb. This year is we pick a WR he should be the 2nd WR on the field. Only mayhew could pick an early round WR every year and still need 3 WRs lmao....what a loser.

titus was a bad pick because they thought his small frame would translate to a down the field threat opposite CJ in this offense (the same reservations I have about marquise lee)....brilliant.

Still prefer Decker to anyone coming out this year (except Watkins)

Decker doesn't have the ceiling that some guys in the draft have.....but he is a young plug and play #2 with talent. Obviously, he is someone that the Lions have little chance of signing due to what he will probably ask on the open market....but my point is the same.

I'm certainly not predicting that they are going to get him, just that I would like to see them target a veteran instead of playing what seems to be Detroit Lion Russian Roulette. (drafting a WR in the first 2 rounds)

With the 10th pick in the draft, Detroit selects Marquise Lee.

Titus was productive in 2011. It's not like we got nothing and his talent never showed up on the field. Then went insane and had some knee troubles too in 2012.

I will OFFICIALLY change my name to Hughes Jr. if that happens.

That would be a MASSIVE mistake.

I would be extremely disappointed if this happened. I wouldn't be surprised if Lee drops out of the 1st round due to his injury history, combine results, and the depth at the WR position in the draft this year.

depends what your expectations of the meaning of productive and talent are. If you are LKP....he drools over 700 yd WRs in a 5000 yard passing offense. To me, titus underachieved for someone that was drafted to be a downfield threat opposite CJ in a 5000 yard passing offense. Maybe my expectations are high...but I think a true #2 in this offense should have no problem being a 1000 yard WR especially with all the 1 v1 they should get being opposite CJ.

I already eluded to his "talent." I don't think his talents matched what we were really looking for. I think he had a hard time creating separation down field. Then obviously he went batshit crazy.

Nate belonged in the slot, titus' skill set belonged more in the slot at this level, and then we drafted broyles who belongs in the slot. Soooooo.....out of how many times mayhew tried to address WR....none of them have been what we truly need in this offense.....a #2 opposite CJ.

As far as the sarcasm for picking Lee at 10....id shoot myself lol. If they were going to horribly reach for need at WR at 10.....id rather it even be Jordan Matthews before Lee. Said it before....I see Lee as a titus clone that belongs in the slot at the next level.

I don't want Lee but that would be funny and almost worth it, Jr.

Won't happen...but I'd do it.

Free Agency will determine where the Lions go in the draft. If we already have signed a legit #2, I would like the Lee pick.......if it were the 2nd round.

Are you implying Matt Millen has the same pull as Snyder/Jones?

I'd only be a conspiracy theorist if I really, truly thought that was why they did it. It was just the grumblings of a middle age man.

i don't see any very good and affordable #2 options in FA. Best guy for the money is probably emmanuel sanders but not so sure hes a true #2. Decker will be overpriced and I don't think he would produce much here. Nicks or Britt you could take a flier on but they haven't produced in years.....change of scenery might help them....or they could just not be very good. How much faith do you put in guys that cried about being unhappy where they were at and both let their production regress because of it?

How good does that potential josh gordon trade look now??? Would you rather want mike evans or josh Gordon.....for me....its not even close.

I said in October we should have pulled the trigger on that deal. It was glaringly obvious then that we would be looking for a #2 in the upcoming draft. IMO, Gordon was better than ANYONE coming out.

Tough to blame Mayhew for not doing it........31 other GM's would do it now too if it were offered. There were just too many red flags at the time.
