cap raised

Like who...half the teams play a 3/4..many more have cap issues..give me a team

Team that would have some interest (have over 15 million in cap space, run a 4-3, ranked in the bottom half of rush defense, have a 1st round pick)

NYG
ATL
MIN
BUF
JAX

OAK also a possibility because they have a ton of cap space and lets face it Suh fits the raider profile

Maybe..if you were the gm for any of those teans do you sign a $13m a yr DT..give up a top 3 to 12 pick? Do you feel youre that close?

Actually the only team I thought of was stl. They're probably trading out of two maybe with minny who needs a qb. They would get the 8th..2nd round and maybe 2015 second. They pair him up with brockers give up their 12th overall

Rams have less cap space than the lions so that could be a problem. Another team while it is a 3-4 could be the 49ers. They have some cap space to work with and are pretty set on the offensive side of the ball. Can you imagine teaming up Suh with Smith as your DE`s?

Langford and wells will be cut. Besides they have several players with high base salaries that u could convert to SB

Maybe ATL, another option for teams like Jax, ATL, and MIN would be swaping 1st round picks then taking a 2nd along with a 3rd. So then essentially the Lions could move into the top 8 and grab a player like Mack, Watkins, Barr, or even Clowney if he drops. Jax and MIN would know they can stay in the top 10 to grab a QB and ATL can still grab thier OT.

3 QBs are going top 3 or 4 IMO

That I agree with. All the more important if you can Trade Suh and move up and land Clowney or even at the very least Watkins or Mack it is woth it in my opinion.

So trade Suh and your first to move up a few spots?

I just don't see how they could pull off a Suh trade and sell it to the fans. First off, many fans love Suh. Secondly, trading Suh is basically a sign that they're giving up on 2014 already, the loss of Suh and 19 million in dead cap space is a serious blow to this team. While it may help the cap in the future, it's not a smart move for a team that's "ready to win now".

Not exactly, I am saying if you were to trade him to one of the teams drafting ahead of the Lions id swamp 1sts then take 2nd and a 3rd or 4th. That`s if it was me, and I am on record for not valuing DT`s that high.

True but how many times do good organizations make the unpopular move in the off season that fans do not like? If you make moves just based on the fan bases approval you are doomed to fail

It's still a gamble. They could clear cap space and gain draft picks, but end up signing FAs who don't live up to their contracts and drafting busts. I really don't want to see this team give up on a season by trading a known commodity for the chance that future teams *might* be a little bit better better.

For the record, I have no allegiance to any player on my favorite teams. Everyone can be traded if it's for the right price, IMO. But in this situation, I just don't see the positives.

its the lions...is this a rhetorical question? millen/mayhew come to mind??? anything??? Have you been awake the last 20 years??? are you a caveman that was frozen and just recently thawed?

Well how about this as a scenario, lets say they trade him and move up a few spots in addition to gaining a 2nd and a 3rd. While they would be on the hook for his 19 million dollar cap hit it will not prevent them from brin ging back thier own FA`s or signing a few depth players. If they added a player like Clowny, Mack or at the very least Jernigan in the first while having 4 more picks in the top 100 along with having financial flexibility next year to add high priced free agents. Wouldn`t that be enough to keep them competitive the next two seasons?

I can always think outside the box but ultimately I know deep inside what this oragization is and what they do. I know I can hope for them to do the right moves but yes you are right, I don`t have faith in them to do the right thing

Competitive? Maybe

But there's too many "ifs" for me. We don't even know if the Lions could get top-tier FAs. What if the Lions trade Suh and shit the bed next season? That doesn't sound very attractive to potential players. Then there's the problem with unproven rookies.

I'd actually say I'm less confident because I'm indifferent on Mayhew. If he was some great GM with the golden touch I'd weigh the options, but I'm just not confident that the gain would overcome the loss of a top DT.

I don`t have much faith in Mayhew either but I have to go on the thought that having Xanders here this past year helped on was one of the reasons they had such a good offseason. As far as free agents go, this isn`t the NBA they can still get good talent if they pay. They got players like Bush and Quin after a pathetic season.

I wouldn`t mind keeping Suh if they were not going to be paying Stafford and Calvin around 40 million + combined the next 3 seasons. There is thier biggest problem right there.

so since were playing hypotheticals....which high priced guy would you want to move the most? I think all have their positives and negatives.

Suh - good value, gets paid too much for a DT. one of the best in the league at DT. Low production for how much money he makes, has a knack to go crazy both on and off the field.

Stafford - not very good value but desperate qb needy teams would overpay anyway, makes top 5 money and is probably around the middle of the pack

CJ - great value, has a couple years of prime left....then what does he become? Do injuries start to pile up cause of his size?

Its a tough question for me to answer. As far as suh goes theres no way in hell I think you can put a complete defense on the field when your DT make close to 15 mil. If we surround Staff with all these qb guys, get him even MORE weapons, and he still shits the bed then im done with him...but then again if you don't have another option at qb then you don't get rid of the only option you have or youll end up being the browns. CJ I think id want to get rid of the least eventhough we might get the most in return for him....he means too much to an offense by the attention he receives. The fact staff can suck for half the year with CJ on the field is mindblowing. I guess my answer would be Suh....itd be tough to monitor what the loss of him would mean to our defense. If we got a couple picks and grabbed a rookie DT how much worse would our defense be off? Production wise the dline didn't have very good numbers with him in there....could we really be that much worse?
