cap raised

By signing Suh you put this team in the same situation every year. You can field some starters, but you continue to have no depth. Also you become dependent on hitting on 3rd and 4th rounders to field your starters year after year.

It comes down to if you want a top heavy team where one suspension, injury, bad day from your elite players can cause you to lose a game. Essentially you have a great player in a unit and less than players around him. Or if you want your team filed with pretty good players that together can be very good.

We saw it last year with Suh and the Dline. Because of a secondary that can't play press coverage, teams went short quick passes to beat a pass rush that was actually pretty solid. What would you rather have a dline that can get to the QB in 2.5 seconds and a secondary that can only cover for 2 seconds, or a Dline that can get to the QB in 3 seconds and a secondary that can cover for 3 seconds.

We need the money for offense, make it so hard to fail that it takes great effort to fail. Like it or not the success of this teams comes down to the QB and coaching staff not a DT.

Spending big money on free agents doesn't give you depth. Drafting well for depth.

Completely unneccesary getting rid of him. Just be smart with mid level contracts and draft well. Like every team. No team that has a ton of cap space has great depth because of that.

Mayhew said he's not even thought of trading him. Suh wants to be here. A deal will get done once Suh gets an agent.

Nope he gone unless a last second deal before free agency or thenbidding war. Still on the hook for 9.1 million too in cap space. Would get 3rd round comp pick in 2016. Extending Suh right now is the best option.

Only way you trade Suh is if you find out within the next two months (by draft day) if he is hell bent on testing free agency.

If he plays this year and doesnt sign..hes gone..we would get a 3rd round comp pick in 2016 draft

They'll know his intentions by May. Mayhew already said Suh had interest in re-signing. Working on a deal once he gets an agent.

I'll be beyond shock if Suh plays on this last year then walks for a 3rd only. Lions will know well before that his intentions.

Where did I say big free agents? Signing him long term makes it tough to keep your solid rookies once their rookie contracts are up.

Speaking of free agency. Just look at what we did last year with less money then what suh will command. We got a few solid players. More solid players is better in the long term than two elite players paid as the highest paid players in their position. Plus with Stafford contract that a a lot of money tied up.

Two solid picks can be as productive as suh and a less than player.

Untradeable, cant franchise him....nice job mayhew. Better hope to God you can extend him for a decent cost.

He is tradeable as long as the team he is traded to can guarntee an extension. While he will cost us a 19 million dollar cap hit for trading him, the team that gets him won`t owe him much.

Problem is the lions don`t want to trade him

doesn't that cap hit make him untradeable? id think so....

That depends, would you take that cap hit for one year knowing you will have an additional 12-13 million per year that you are saving along with getting a possible 1st and additional mid to late round pic?

That`s easy for me since I am against paying a DT the big bucks anyway. I trade Suh, know then I will not be able to sign any free agents on the open market this year, but I will get two picks to add to my team. Then next year With that money you would of been paying Suh you can go out and add a couple big pieces.

So what team do yoy see trading for Suh, giving up a 1st and 3rd and paying him $13m a yr?

Look, ive been on the mayhew is an idiot bus for years. But even I don't think hes dumb enough to trade your best player and take a $19 mil hit in the process. If hes not willing to extend you let him play out this year then don't pick up his option and we get a pick the following year. You hope it doesn't come to that...

No one is going to trade a #1 for a guy making $19 mil with one year left on his contract. It would have to be a sign and trade and those are almost unheard of (if not outright unheard of, since I can't think of one) in the NFL.

I think he signs...if he doesnt trading him would be the best option. You would get more than a 3rd round comp pik. But i hear people say a first and third and i have to shake my head some

as cheeno eluded to. You wont get many teams lining up to "rent" a player for a year at the amount Suh makes let alone give up 2 high picks for a 1 year rental. Youd be lucky to get a 2nd and imo thatd even be a steal since theres no guarantee hed stay.

youre better off letting him pay out his time here...not picking up his option and taking the comp pick. atleast we get his services for the year.

2nd round pick < 3rd round pick plus 1 year with suh

I think the lions would further ahead trading him(under the assumption he doesnt sign) this year even if it was for a low first or a second and fourth seeing as were not going anywhere in 2014 and free up all his cap for next year and have two picks this with a year of experience under their belts. Anyone trading for him will know what it will take to sign him longterm

If you think no one would trade for Suh, Tampa traded a first and a conditional 4th for Revis and his blown out knee and had to agree to an extension in the process.

Suh is healthy and the best at his position, some team would give up a first at the very least and offer him an extension.
