Could Urban be FIRED?

I wish Norm MacDonald still had that fake sports talk show on Comedy Central... this whole story is pretty much perfect for some of his jokes.

Well, Im betting Meyer was fully aware of this reassignment. One more black eye on a Monday. This McMurphy guy is good. He letting more and more info go as the days go by and backing OSU into a corner. If they keep Meyer and this guy has more shit to reveal, OSU could be in for a world of hurt.

He does seem to relish in making OSU squirm... he keeps releasing tid bits here and there. I thought I remembered him saying something earlier this month that if OSU continues to attack him or deny things publicly, he'll just keep releasing information.

I suppose this is a little dodgy on his part, though he's not lying or anything. I can understand why OSU fans would be pissed, but you know what? **** them. Regardless of how the information comes out, their head coach knowingly enabled a wifebeater for years.

They need to get a reporter like him on the Maryland case...the one where the athlete died.

OSU's trustees meeting Wednesday at 9 am to discuss Meyer's situation. they were reportedly informed of the results of the investigation today (link)

Two sources connected to the investigation said the likely recommendation to university President Michael V. Drake is a suspension for Meyer. Drake and the board could also opt for a ?time served? punishment since Meyer has been removed from football activities for more than two weeks.

"Time served" would look hilariously corrupt.

There are apparently lawsuits pending against the Powell PD to get them to release all records related to the "incident" reports against Zach Smith. If they don't do anything to Meyer, and more bad news comes out from the FOIA requeats, this will continue to plague them during the season.

The price tag for Mary Jo White's 2 week "investigation" is reportedly $500,000; not bad work if you can get it...

so the OSU trustees have been deliberating for like 7-8 hours now.

both Urban and his wife have been there for most of that time. according to twitter, Shelley arrived after Urban did.

I also learned Clark Kellogg is an OSU trustee. Some of these places with major scandals in their athletic departments probably need to re-think the wisdom of having former jocks in charge.

If they were going to fire him he would be gone already. They are trying to make it look the best they can.

Lmao what a shit show. Either he ****ed up or he didn’t. They took the easy way out.
I don’t think he deserved to be fired but they, by suspending him, admit he did. Sends a great message...

Wow, only a Three game suspension!

Bet they'll be breakin' out Zach Smith's $2000 sex toy stash for a wild orgy in the Woody Hayes Athletic Center tonight?!?!

Hopefuly, McMurphy pulls something else out of his hat. Would be pretty darn funny. This will be talked about all year, so good job OSU. You did what we all thought you would.......protect at all costs.

So the investigation showed that Meyer and Smith both knew about the abuse in 2015 and never reported it to OSU's compliance office.

How hard is it to do the right thing?

deadspin has a write up of the report, which OSU released at 11 PM (like THAT's not obvious).

Summary of their findings: Meyer, his wife, and Gene Smith knew all along, and that's bad, but not too bad, because, while they all lied, they didn't really mean to lie.

Words just like come out of their mouths sometimes that aren't true

Accidental lying. Happens all the time.

All of OSU's fans are stupid enough to believe that.

I doubt he can top what's in the report. OSU suggesting the Meyer's memory is sometimes impacted by medication is something I'm surprised they'd try to sell and the thing about Meyer asking how to delete texts older than a year right after the McMurphy report came out is shady.

Mandel wrote a paywalled piece that says this changes his narrative for good. If OSU wins the national championship this year, instead of asking if he's passed Saban, writers will be writing about this.

I think they made a mistake by taking these inconsistent positions in the report, like: "We have no doubt Meyer respects women. And also Meyer knowingly kept a sleazy wifebeater who did not respect women on his staff for years."

Just say "He did this and it was bad, and we feel a three game suspension is an adequate punishment."

You can't really have your cake and eat it to in this instance, without looking worse...

There is one important thing McMurphy posted since this came out: the original police report that says Smith was arrested in 2015. Depending on how and when that was changed, it could be a clerical error, or it could be a pretty big story.

Yeah. Todd Gurley was suspended 4 games for accepting $3,000 for signing autographs, Marcus Smart was suspended 3 games for shoving someone...it's tough to find examples of coaches. The 1st Last Chance U coach was suspended for two games for an altercation where he didn't initiate contact, a game administrator appears to take a swing at him and he swung back. Kyle Flood was suspended 3 games for inappropriately contacting a professor about a player's grades.

A 3 game suspension is a weird reaction to this, probably driven by the optics from their point of view rather than any good set of reasons.
