Its been a pro and a need since 1980....upper mgmt just fails to see the need or fill the hole. Milliner is the only top 15 guy. Hes probably not a top 10 guy. More than likely youd get more value drafting a DE or Olineman. Joekl and Warmack are studs on the oline. There plenty of threads discussing the top 15 DE talent pool. Its deep. It was either last year or the year before that that we had no starting CBs signed at draft time and we still didnt draft one. Its just a position they dont touch early for some reason.

last year we drafted several CBs...unfortunately they are all injured. bentley, green, and greenwood if i'm not mistaken.

isn't Milliner the guy who is a great CB but his size is more likely going to mean he will be a safety in the NFL? just looked him up and it says 6-1, 199...i think that is pretty borderline as a 200 lb guy is likely not going to be very quick relative to the NFL receivers. granted some have argued that our CBs are not big enough which is why they keep getting injured. seems a catch-22, either too small and therefore oft injured or too big and getting burned by quicker WRs. and it is not likely the guy will drop in weight as it is more common for guys to add weight when they reach the NFL.

if the DE pool is deep, maybe they go DE in R1 and R2...but it seems more and more likely they will be going WR or RB in R1/R2. wouldn't surprise me at all to see a repeat of 2009 and 2010 where they will make a trade using R2 pick + additionals to jump into late R1. seems to be millen...er...mayhew's MO. i used to think mayhew was a great GM, but the more i see of the results outside of Stafford and Suh one cannot help but start to question the results. and both of them he really could not go a different way, though Suh's problems make him somewhat questionable, albeit still tolerable...for now.

seems like there is little hope for next year. to think i was honestly thinking there would be a lions team in the super bowl sometime soon, like next year. now, it seems the Same Ol' Lions curse is rearing it's ugly head and management once again is not going to do a damn thing right to correct it until we are back to a 0 or 1 win team. DL is falling apart, OL continues to be less than stellar, DBs...forget about it....RBs...ughh. the once bright future must have just been a flash of lightning instead of a bright, beaming sun.

Carolina won so that helps but man are there some shitty teams in the AFC.

some nice wins by shitty teams in the early games will only help our draft spot. Go GB! PHI CAR CLE SD all with wins. Zona well on the way to a loss. Could be a top 5 pick by the end of the day. Dont blow it lions!

Next week will be tough. Which team wants to preserve their draft position more??? Cards made a perfect showing today vs seachickens but the lions proved their passion for the draft by gifting tds to preserve their shot at a top 5 pick.

Will the game be decided by one team running the wrong way to lose 2-0? Stay tuned!

I'm not rooting for GB. That's evil man..

This thread is about the sarcasm. None of us want the lions to lose but this thread gives us the pleasure of embracing the silver lining in the silver losses.

If you say so though I remember when we drafted Joey at 3 - we had the 2 pick but won late in the season and people were viable upset. I think there is some truth to people wanting the Lions to lose even if no one admits it out loud. And that's a shame.

I dont know if most want the Lions to lose but when they inevitably do, it is okay to be partially consoled by draft position. I don't think that is being a bad fan.

I think you're thinking, "come on win" but if they lose "well at least we get a better draft pick".

Not, "I hope they lose so we get a better pick". A big difference and the latter just seems wrong.

Every game from here on out is a "win win" situation. I get the feeling that is the norm now that the chance of the playoffs is long gone. Pride in our team is the only thing that is lost by the consecutive losses, and that is something that has been completely lost by most Lions fans somewhere during this current losing streak. Losing is becoming more expected, and less painful for fans

not just the better draft pick, a better chance at a change at coach or coordinators. something to shake things up. the players have lost something and would benefit from some degree of change in coaching.

the fan's frustration in being ok with a loss is due to the coaching more than anything else, IMO

That is what I am thinking. Maybe I'm wrong, hopefully there are a lot less of the others than you think.

I guess I don't think changing coaches this quick is a good idea. Last year we were praising Linehan and his 5000 yard QB and now we want him gone. Same with Schwartz, improves each year and now we think he's a bum?

I don't remember praising linehan last year, I remember second half of the hear frustrations over his play calling and that did not improve. Now the opponents have figured out his plans, he has become a liability. He also is not ensuring Staff improves his mechanics, that the line works harder at run blocking, nor receivers constantly dropping passes.

Gunther has also been complained about since last year for his vanilla, no blitz plans while Schwartz has been questioned for decisions on using timeouts, players not being under control, and whether he can actually lead the team to the next level.

Not suggesting a complete overhaul, but a little shakeup would help refocus everyone.

That's why you have a QB coach, an OL coach and a WR coach. Those aren't Linehan's responsibilities. He calls plays and last year scored a bunch of points.

And losing those 3 coaches are a major shakeup not a little one. As far as players not being under control, a coach can't keep a player from being a dumb-ass.
