draft position over under

Where im at is....we had our chance to pull off good wins...and we failed miserably. HOU, IND, GB in the first game....all could have been great season saving wins. Yet we failed to show up and finish. Theres nothing left on the schedule that would make me optimistic about this team.....so we may as well lose and get more value in the draft. You think i care if we beat a 9 consecutive loss team? Or a decimated and just plain bad bears team in week 17 where it could be a meaningless game for the bears at that point? Or a week 16 meaningless game for the Falcons who will begin to rest their starters and take the foot off the gas. The reality is....none of those would be very good wins. Were 0-5 in the division...that blows. Competitive?....if you say so...but the bottom line is 0-5. I wouldnt call that very competitive unless were just plain the most unlucky team on the planet. It could be some unluck....but most of it is just plain bad players playing bad games coached by pretty bad coordinators and coaches making stupid decisions.

I dont know if most want the Lions to lose but when they inevitably do, it is okay to be partially consoled by draft position. I don't think that is being a bad fan.

Draft position is our Super Bowl, man. Believe it.

That's why you have a QB coach, an OL coach and a WR coach. Those aren't Linehan's responsibilities. He calls plays and last year scored a bunch of points.

And losing those 3 coaches are a major shakeup not a little one. As far as players not being under control, a coach can't keep a player from being a dumb-ass.

Cunningham and Linehan need to go immediately. For fk sakes, other coaches fire co-ordinators. Why doesn't Schwartz? Somebody has to be held accountable for this garbage.

Maybe they do but you don't do it at this point.

Kiper says this upcoming draft is hella weak; at a time when the team needs top flight talent the MOST.

All the better to have a top 5 draft pick then. If talent is that thin, it could mean a better ability to trade picks for players and/or future draft picks when draft has better talent. I see tons of advantages for the Lions not winnning another game in this sense, but as previously touched on, Lions likely win next 3 games vs a terrible Cards, nothing-to-play-for Falcons, and decimated Bears teams which will push them to somewhere closer to #15. At this point, I would honestly be very much ok with the loses, especially with a very thin draft class. Alas, just like 2 years ago, the Lions will put together a fabulous winning streak which will provide some sort of high that carries over to the next year. I'd rather they go out on a low so they wake the fuck up and kick themselves for putting such terrible performances on the field.

I don't think anyone is suggesting doing it until the season is finished, but some sort of shake up needs to happen or Mayhew proves himself an even worse GM than many are fearing at this point. He has to send a message that such crap and underachievement is not going to be tolerated.

If the elite franchises can withstand losing coordinators on a regular basis, no reason to believe they have to retain any of our coaches or coordinators in order to maintain continuity or some BS like that. The continuity has been and continues to be under-achievement and they need to bring in people that will correct that.

Not saying a wholesale change is necessary, just one coordinator change will suffice and if nothing improves the next year with the other, then get rid of him too. If the following year still shows no improvements, then the coach goes.

Get it done Mayhew, figure out which scapegoat you are going to sacrifice and make it happen.

Two things I learned while in the military:

Rank has its Priviledges
Rank has its Responsibilities

That means when things are great, you get the credit even though it was the hard work of those under you who made the accomplishments happen. You get the glory and benefits that comes with it. But when things go bad, you are the one in charge so either you correct the problems or you get the blame.

So Linehan has coaches under him who are underperforming, it is still his responsibility to ensure the situations are corrected. If that means benching a starter like they did with Young, then so be it. That at least shows some signs of correcting the problems. However, in that situation it was the WR coach who was screaming they need to bench him while Linehan just stood there with a dumbfounded look. It has also been Linehan's play calling that pretty much everyone has questioned. Those things indicate the problem is more with the OC failing to make the product run at optimal performance levels.

At least the WR coach showed some passion, maybe he'd be a good person to promote if no one better is available. I like coaches/coordinators who have a little fire in 'em and can get after people when necessary. They also tend to be the biggest supporters, back-slappers, high-fivers, and high-energy motivators who understand those two things I mentioned previously. Coaches I'm ok with being more calm. Football is a lot like the military in that sense, calm calculating general/strategist with a bunch of gung-ho assistants/tacticians tends to produce high quality results.

Well, personally, I don't believe the other coaches are under of the OC. I don't think they report to Linehan like a Lieutenant reports to a Captain.

well if that is true then that is the first problem that needs to be addressed. those coaches should be under the OC (or DC). why would anyone not set it up like that? you need those coaches to be under the coordinators so they are all on the same page and working on the things that need work, like QB footwork.

i cannot fathom a reason to not have it setup that way.

Maybe they are I just assume its Swartzie's gig. I mean, Linehan didn't hire these guys, right? I mean if these guys under them, wouldn't you want Linehan to have a say in who they hire? I'm just spit-balling here..

We move into 4th! Suh blows. Stafford sucks. Coaching is awful. Mayhew has a team that started fucking Durham and fucking Wendling in the same year lmao! Entire franchise is a fucking joke. We just got smoked by one of the worst teams in the league and we are now leading the league with 6 straight losses. But things are looking up cause the good news is most of this team are free agents next year so most of these scrubs wont be here next year. The bad news is we still wont have any money to bring in new blood cause Mayhew is fucking horrid.

top 5...YEAH BABY!!! sweeeeeeeet

so much money tied up with 3 guys...can't expect things to change anytime soon. mayhew needs to be smarter with these contracts and talk to these guys about how their contracts are decreasing the opportunity of winning a super bowl. of the 3, only CJ is showing any signs he deserves it. sure staff has the yards, but the TD/INT is painful at best and suh gets the doubles, but off field antics and drop in production from rookie year make it questionable that he should be rewarded with better contract as well.

Staffs ints have come from having to force it into triple coverage to cj. everyone else is hurt, a dickhead crybaby,a poor route runner, or a stone mason. His targets are garbage and refuse to help him out.
