Actually no, that's not how it works. As a RFA, he has no way of leaving the team unless the team LETS him go. If he tries to sign somewhere else (minimum 3 or 4 year contract), we match, the end. If he demands a trade, we laugh, sign him to a long term contract, go about our day. The only way he could possibly leave is by playing one more year (in which we would sell him to the highest bidder) on the RFA tender (one year contract below his market value). This never happens for good players (case in point, Ben Gordon is the best player to ever take this route), because long term financial safety and stability always win out.

If Monroe demands a trade 5-7 years from now (at the end of his second contract), he has that right. If we aren't a competitive team 5-7 years from now, I am going to be pretty mad as fan too. But no one has the leverage to force a trade at the end of their rookie contract, that's the entire point of RFA.

If he does..THEN it's a Dwight problem. It doesn't matter why he wants to go to Brooklyn. If Nash wanted to go the Raptor to be back in Canada thats his choice.. Phoenix would have to take whatever Toronto was willing to give or let him walk on his own n get nothing in return.

Because, he can make a boatload of cash in Brooklyn. Have a new arena, and great team, owner that is going to compete, new facilities, and he doesn't have to follow in the footsteps of Shaq. Spurs aren't a big enough market, for his endorsements to reach that kicker.

Look, either you don't understand how the CBA and agents work, or you are just purposely being obtuse. If a player wants to leave in free agency, he can sign with whomever has the money to sign him, no one else. He can't force his way to team over the cap (most contenders). This is exactly why Dwight isn't going to play for the Nets. They have no cap room next season and Orlando didn't like their offer.

As for the RFA tender, no player has ever turned down a large long-term contract just to "get out" of their current situation. This isn't a rule specifically, but it's common sense. No agent is going to turn down the guaranteed dollars of a long term NBA contract. Injury, off-court problems, or just poor play could all seriously impact future contracts, and neither players nor agents will risk that. The only players who take that route are lower tier free agents who are hoping to get overpaid. Ben Gordon: prime example. These players don't lose much primarily because of the size of their tender (top picks who didn't live up to the hype) and notable interest after their 4th year. It doesn't happen with legitimate stars because those players always receive giant extensions, which are too enticing to pass up.
