I don't want to speak for the Hammer, but from his post (and from yours) I'm guessing he knows and you don't, that in Australia, "cunt" is often used as a term of endearment and is gender non-specific. When I lived there for b-school I remember asking one of my Aussie friends about a guy in our class and he said something like "Yeah he's a good cunt, mate." Reading his post, I thought that was the tone Hammer was using the word.

I know plenty of Aussies and Kiwi's, used to do online gaming late at night with them, and I can tell you, "cunt" is used most often how we would use asshole/dipshit etc.

Could it be a friendly endearment? sure, but not in the context he used. Certainly not on the one I used.

I also assumed he used it in the 'aussie' sense.

Bob, I pretty much don?t get point of this.

Whatever you disagree with I can?t tell - you haven?t quoted what you disagree with.

Then you make a long post retelling a news story with a lot of details that we all pretty much already know - you do point out the tragic irony that George Floyd was denied due process, unlike the police need to be afforded - yes, that?s obvious to me and probably everybody else. I find it terrible and appalling nobody I know sees it any other way.

So what am I missing?

I am Just disagreeing with post #760 where Tom says if the cops get a good lawyer they will probably get off. Sadly he is probably right but I sincerely hope not. But then I disagree with a lot of members in the politics section. Hopefully a blue wave will either hamstring Trump or sweep the scumbag completely out of office in November !

Oh, you played video games with a few but never lived there. You probably know better than me then. Maybe I should get an Xbox so I can learn as much about Aussie culture as you.

Granted I wasn’t 10k miles away on a Playstation but when I lived in Melbourne for almost 6 months and travelled all over I heard the term constantly and virtually always in a congenial way.

'Shove' is a bit strong for me but they definitely handled that poorly.

75 year old is in serious but stable condition. Was interesting to see the cops just walk on by and the National Guard behind them like "Dude...what the fuck?"

The two cops were immediately suspended without pay.

Never claimed to know Aussie culture better then you dipshit, and it was pc gaming in the early days of MMORPG's. and more than a few, I still keep in contact with about a dozen of them, at one times was pretty good online friends with couple hundred, mostly from Adelaide area, but several from Perth, Melbourne, and Sydney as well as several from New Zealand.

And I agreed it can be used in the way you suggested, and yes...it's gender neutral, but I most often heard it used as a derogatory comment.

[Spartanmack]Well, he obviously didn't run away fast enough, and the police were probably scared for their lives, and it was mayhem out there, and Trump wanted a photo op nearby, and, and, and....[/Spartanmack]

I didn't say get off, I said get off light. He is charged with 2nd degree murder. He will probably get manslaughter...or something similar.

You miss the sarcastic exaggeration, and I’m the dipshit?

Sorry, didn’t realize you weren’t on a console, that changes things a bit.

I was not missing the MC-SM diatribe, and it seems another one has erupted to replace it.

so we weren't a racist country when the Dems were in charge?

I dont recall the entire country being on fire and a fence being put up around the whitehouse. National Guard in almost every major city. (Clap it out for republicans...they finally got the wall they wanted!) Do you?

I dont recall the president declaring war on Americans back then. You?

I mean my memory isnt quite as good as it used to be...but i dont recall our president tear gassing people for a photo op back then. You?

well, since this thread started in 2014, when we had a Democratic President...I'm pretty sure the country was racist back then too. It just so happens that there have been protests, cities on fire, looting, etc. this year and they didn't do it in 2014. I guess you could blame republicans for the looting, fires, and tear gas if you feel like it is their fault. Personally, I blame the people that are doing it, not for the people in office. That said, I do think the President is doing a poor job with all of this...but he isn't the cause of it.

Russia is giving us advice on how to be more democratic. Nuff said...good job republicans.

any reasonable person's reaction to this article should be to laugh it off.

But not you. when you see a bunch of people burn buildings, loot stores and even commit murders all over the country over a problem that doesn't actually exist, but is constantly pushed by a biased media as if there was no doubt that it did exist, your reaction is to not only actually give a shit what comes out of the Russian propaganda machine, but to also blame the #1 target of that bias. By the way, these places where all these riots and looting are occurring have been Democrat strongholds for generations - that includes the police and the unions, they're virtually all Democrats. But sure, those f'n Republicans are the problem.

The history of civil unrest in this country-the history I?m old enough to remember myself - definitely cuts across party lines as far as who was in power.

I remember the racial unrest of the 60s; I remember the riots in Detroit and across the country. The Democrats were overwhelmingly the majority party - and it wasn?t even close.

Hyperbole is fun.

The president did not declare war on America - at least, if I?m currently under siege, I?m completely unaware of it.

Now, it could be because I?ve been complying with curfew orders placed by my mayor, Garcetti - who is a Democrat.

Police deny that the action had anything to do with any photo-op. Are they lying? Don?t know. I do know that no one reporting that it was associated with a photo-op didn?t verify it with the police before reporting it - at least from what I?ve seen. I?ve talked about this in this thread earlier.

I don?t remember all of this-much of this is before my time-but I trust the source.

Have you ever been to visit the White House? My guess is you have; and if you have, and you don?t recall that there?s a fence around the White House, then... you?re right.

Your memory isn?t what it used to be.

there were protests and riots in Ferguson in 2014, nationally too, but not on the scale we're seeing now. And maybe that's because there wasn't a Republican in the White House, but as you point out that says more about the rioters than the President. What exactly has Trump said or done that would spur national unrest? Right away, he condemned the officers actions and immediately called for the FBI and DOJ to investigate. How exactly does any of this fall on the hands of Trump or Republicans in general?
