the absolute lack of interest from other teams is all you need to know about what the league thinks of Monroe. Let him play this year and see what happens but do NOT give him a max contract!

I'm fine with letting him play out the year on a short contract if that's the only way to keep him. But we should not confuse lack of reports with lack of interest. RFA's rarely change teams, and almost never when they are anywhere close to max players.

Teams that actually want Monroe are better off NOT offering him a contract, as the Pistons will assuredly match. Worse, if the Pistons match, they could then turn around and trade him to a different team. The team offering the contract gets zero benefit.

Teams are unwilling to trade for two reason. One, the teams that might see Monroe as a building block generally have nothing they can afford to trade. Teams looking to make Monroe one of their core players are not contenders or flush with depth, they are bad or middle of the pack teams, who would be running in place trading what few good players they have for Monroe. Two, why give up valuable assets for a player that has publicly stated he wants out and won't sign the contract offered by the Pistons? If a team really wants Monroe, their best bet is just waiting until next summer, when acquiring him will cost no assets but cap space.

It's not like Monroe is alone in this boat. Bledsoe is going through the exact same thing. Does that mean there is no interest in Bledsoe? Or, more likely, does it just mean teams are smarter about Bledsoe's fit on their team?
