Graham Glasgow earned a third straight start at left guard, including second in a row for a healthy Laken Tomlinson.
Eric Ebron also started at tight end, after missing three games with knee and ankle injuries, and Theo Riddick started at running back after missing two games with an ankle injury.
Theo Riddick's 1-yard touchdown catch was the 11th score of his career, moving him into fourth on the club's all-time list for tailbacks.
Doak Walker holds the record with 21.
Eric Ebron has seven catches for 79 yards so far today in his return to the lineup. The 79 yards matches the second-best game of his career (2015 vs Saints). His seven catches are a career-high.
Matthew Stafford couldn't pull off another comeback. The Lions defense, which had played well for much of the game, didn't force the turnover to give Stafford one more shot.
It resulted in Detroit's first loss since Week 4, a 20-13 loss to the Texans that drops the Lions to .500 and having to travel to Minnesota next week.
Stafford played well, completing 65.9 percent of his passes for 240 yards, a touchdown and no interceptions, but the offense as a whole never looked synced up like it had for stretches earlier in the season.
While the Lions had been a pass-happy team, Sunday's game featured the largest disparity between passing attempts (41) and carries (14) all season.
Lions coach Jim Caldwell, who temporarily cooled his hot seat with a strong October, made two questionable decisions in the second half.
First, Caldwell decided not to challenge a potential fumble in the third quarter a few plays before a Texans and field goal.
Then, after Matt Prater made a field goal with 2:57 left to make it a one-score game, the Lions tried an onside kick.

It’s certainly not a good look to struggle against a team so bad their coaches were literally fighting on the sideline.
Stars of the game:
1. Jim Caldwell’s Onside Kick Decision (For Houston).
I’m not usually one to bash Coach Caldwell. I wrote about how his timeout strategy had been paying off in Detroit’s 3-game win streak. However, in this game it absolutely made no sense to try and onside it in this critical moment.
Sure, they were down one score and it could have been a great move, but why let Houston bleed the clock just to onside it with enough time to pull it out by playing defense and putting pressure on Osweiler.
All coaches makes tough decisions but Detroit’s aggresiveness surely cost them in this one. But, that’s the NFL. Easy for me to question it when it didn’t work.
Still, damn it, it seemed like Detroit lost a game they could’ve won. What else is new?

Lions-Texans observations: Questionable decisions overshadow return of Riddick, Ebron.

Late in the first half, the Lions took over at their own 9-yard line, down 14 points. It was a chance for Stafford to do his thing in a 2-minute offense.
First down? A drop byTheo Riddick. The Lions have been struggling with drops all season.
Second down? A drop by Eric Ebron. Seriously? Another freakin’ drop? OK. Maybe, the pass was behind him, but it should have been caught. Now remember, Lions offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter said the Lions were working on catching the ball.

Johnson Bademosi had an interception (first of his career) and two pass break ups.

Kerry Hyder had a tackle for loss and a quarterback hit.
Travis Wilson, Antwione Williams, and Tyrunn Walker each had a tackle for loss.
Devin Taylor had a quarterback hit.
Quick Hits:
The Lions failed to execute on 4th down today for the first time this season. They are now five of six in 2016.
Just resigned Josh Bynes was already starting at linebacker.
Travis Swanson credited Dominic Raiola for helping him improve this season.
Graham Glasgow started for the third straight game, it looks like left guard is his for good.
Andre Roberts averaged 26.8 yards per kickoff return.
