Game 8: Lions @ Texans Thread

Corey fuller is practicing. Jones can go deep. Tate had the one deep ball. Ebron can stretch the field too. Didnt take enough shots in the last game but it was well covered. The texans have a good seconday. Joseph, bouye and jackson are all good this year. The deep ball to ebron worked at end of first half. Jones was out of synch in this one. No clutch 3rd down grabs by boldin in this one either like he has been in first 7 weeks

I stopped reading after Corey fuller....

I don't think having a strong running game is necessary for a quarterback to put up good stats. But I do think it helps tremendously to accumulate wins for days like sunday. But most of all is a defense that can sometimes provide short fields and not fail all the time. Literally I believe all season long EVERY single game. There has been a point at the end of the game where the defense had a chance to help tremendously. And I think outside of the slay interception a couple of weeks back. They have failed every single time. You can't win football playing that way. Reminds me of aaron rodgers first year starting. He had a great season but finished like 6-10 due to his defense giving up the games at the end over and over again.

Bush pick, holding skins to 17. Texans scored 20 and punted plenty. Their tds drives werent very long. Lions had two longest drives of the day. Lions run d late was troubling not stopping blue

Most teams don't give two shits about any teams running game.

Your examples are a second year player and a guy that's not even playing right now.

Get out of here with your #9 only BS. If you really thing teams are sitting around saying, ok we only have to worry about Stafford, no one else can do anything you're dreaming. A QB that throws the ball less in the air than any other QB isn't the only thing you worry about.

Most teams??? Lol. Ok. You're fucking stoned

I gave 2 examples off the top of my head. David Johnson, Demarco Murray, Freeman, Martin, Lacy etc etc. The list goes on and on. Don't be stupid. When those guys are healthy and running well, teams stack the box. Learn the game. Its not that difficult.

#9 is having a stellar year. Dont be butthurt over it lol. I know it pains you to see him succeeding this year and your hopes of him being abolished probably wont happen but get over it. Whete were his WRs yesterday btw? Did Boldin even dress? Where was Tate? How many catches for MJ? They were shutdown....and that's stopping #9. But if we even had a fucking sniff of a running game, they could run the ball, but not this team. They cant even pretend to do it. Understand now?

Depends on what the def. is of 'stack the box.' It use to be 8. It happens, but only to the best - AP. Here from 2012, not too long ago: Did things change? Not sure if 30% is considered a lot or not. They also had a weak QB.

Adrian Peterson's 2012 Season (via ESPN Stats & Info)

Run Type
Runs Yards YPC %Runs
>8 in the box 244 1426 5.84 70.1%

8+ in the box 104 671 6.45 29.9%

So teams are stacking the box against the packers?

Arizona is a big play passing team first. Carson throws further down the field than anyone. You don't play 8 in the box against them.

I've been very pro Stafford this year. When he plays well I say so. I don't leave on my Honolulu blue glasses. Of he plays well I say he does. I'm just not going to perpetrate the myths of football. Such as there is a correlation between running game success and QB success.

But you don't care about stats. You care about cliches even if they aren't true. Once we go back to the league leader in passing being around 3000 yards we can open up the importance of a running game.

I'm just using Lacy as an example of a good RB. When he wasn't eating Taco Bell at halftime, he was a very good RB. You game planned around him.

And David Johnson might be the best RB in the league, bro. You're trying to stop him. Don't even tell me teams don't stack the box against him lol

But it's not really a cliche. It's factual. A myth? Wtf are you on? Look at the Vikings/Bears game tonight. Jordan Howard was running all over the Bears. You don't think that takes pressure off Cutler? You're the one whose dreaming lol

Im just trying to figure out if caldwell is a complete moron or if he's just trying to pull the wool over everyone's eyes. He literally acts like this is going to be this run first, rely on the strength of our defense type of team. I think he's kidding. ...but then i watch the game and they actually call the game that way. It's the fucking most retarded thing I've ever seen lol. Like hes 110% dillusional about what this team is.

Factual based on what? n

Originally this was about 8 in the box. Data, while a few years old, indicated the lions face 8 in the box no more or less than average. There is nothing to suggest that has changed.

The defense you face has more to do with your formations than who is in the backfield. If you go 4 wide single back set, you're not facing 8 in the box if your running back is Barry Sanders or Zach Zenner.

Good players help the team no matter what position they are at. So does a great RB help the team? Absolutely. Just as a great TE, LT, C or any other position would.

I didn't watch the game last night. But do you think they were stacking the box against Jordan Howard? The guy came in with 55 yards the past two games combined, running at a 2.5 YPC. The guy had a good game.

I'm guessing an elite WR does as much if not more to help the QB and team than an elite RB does.

Everything helps. Stafford getting hit at one of the lowest % of dropbacks helps him. Play calls help him. After the catch plays help him. But the biggest reason he is better this year, is because he is better. He is making the correct throws, he is being very accurate, and he seems to have an improved pocket awareness. So the biggest contributor to the QB playing well, is the QB, which is always the case. Good QBs are good, because they have talent, not because of running games, not because of WRs, etc.

You're either a complete fucking moron or you're the most stubborn guy on the planet lol. I really don't know, but i do know one thing. You don't get it. Which is fine. You're convinced that defenses are solely based on formations and look at a player like Zenner and Barry Sanders and defend them the SAME WAY .....lmfao. Ok..im done. You're clueless.
I did actually watch the game yesterday and you're right. The Vikings were not stacking the box on Howard. Then Howard gashed them and the Vikings were trying to stop the run. That made Cutler's job a whole hell of a lot easier during the game because they had the Bears on their heels all night. FOOTBALL 101.
That's my point about the Lions offense too. No defenses care about the running game we have because it doesn't exist and Stafford an co are usually getting the job done. If we only had a running back that could actually run the ball, this offense would be unstoppable.

We did have a good running back. He got hurt when he juked a defender out of his shoes. We cant have nice things in the run game

Exactly!!! Missing AA is hurting this offense right now. Things would open up more with at least somewhat of a running game. AA is no superstar but he's someone you gotta keep an eye on in the running game. He has the ability to break one. Zenner? Not a fucking chance. We need Washington back because that kid has size, speed and wiggle.

Wasn't Washington a healthy scratch last week?
