IMO, there are 3 good teams in the NFC. Saints, GB, TB. Seattle is good too but their defense is flawed. The Cards and Rams are decent. I wouldn't call it a mediocre mess. I would call the NFC east a total mess and the rest of the NFC pretty typical.
The Lions will not win their next 4. The defense is terrible, the offense is below average, the coaching is horrendous, and quite frankly, they don't have much talent on the roster.
As far as the QB situation, they are pretty much in QB pergatory. They have an above average QB that isn't getting any younger. He will be up for a new contract in a few years and will certainly get a huge raise. He isn't capable of carrying a bad team which has been proven over the past 11 years. The Lions pretty much have 2 choices. 1) they extend Matt and try to build new defense and offense with an aging QB. 2) they cut bait now. With his current cap figures I would think they could get a decent return for him.
Hire a new GM & coach and start over. The only problem, is they aren't going to be bad enough to get Lawrence or Fields.
