Game 8: Lions @ Vikings Thread

As bad as the Lions have been, the next 3 games are against really bad teams. 2-6 Washington and 3-6 Carolina should both have their 3rd string QBs playing. Then they have the 2-6 Texans.

The playoffs are out of the question at this point. It's time for the Lions to look towards the future. At least they have some really good building blocks to build around.

Players like....:hmm:
Washington, Carolina and Texas are saying the same "we have .... & .... & Detroit & ...."

i mean 200 yds rushing is never good. but 70+ of that was from 1 play. Stafford was the bigger reason we lost. 2 punt blocks getting us in great position to score. I kept looking up throughout the game and we just sat on 10 points forever...that has nothing to do with the defense. Defense/ST made some timely stops to get us back in the game down 2 scores and offense did nothing.

Thats 2 weeks in a row Stafford has failed to do anything when we were down and needed a score. I rememebr in the Indy game saying to myself "ok, got the ball...only down 1 score"....and stafford did nothing.

Broken record time...we all know the defense sucks. But the offense needs to score to win games. I told you we need to score over 30 points a game to have a chance...i wasnt kidding lol.

i think we go 1-2. Im back on the pessimistic train lol.

Shut up, your opinion means nothing.

LOL. Ok chief. You and your amazing football knowledge lol

Putrid run defense ruined some games. Plus the DB injuries/Swift drop to lose to Chicago.

Offense has talent but not executing and KG injury doesn't help

If this play continues the next few weeks, Patricia and Quinn will be gone

And we'll see who the new regime keeps

It was 27-10. And the punts prior were not on Stafford. Protection, no open Wrs, drops, Amendola tackled short of the sticks, Prater miss, Peterson stuff, Swift fumble out of bounds on 2nd and goal.

The picks were bad, but not the main reason we lost the game. Run defense was problem number 1 without Flowers, Davis and Walker. 2 hits on Cousins and the Trufant sack. That won't get it done either.

They will be in playoff contention if they win the next 4 at 7-5. But the last 4 they would have alot to prove

Other NFC teams keep losing too. Cardinals and Bears lost (and we play them), NFC East is garbage. Tampa lost (and we play them), Panthers lost (and we play them). Rams at 5-3 at bye. There are 3 wild card spots and the NFC is a mediocre mess.

However, if Detroit continues to play awful awful awful defense, it won't matter

And Stafford needs to stop throwing stupid picks when we are down double digits. He could lead us back if he didn't

And I like Justin Fields by the way. Lions have a hard time finding QBs. Stafford is the best one they found by far in 50 years. Be really careful what you wish for for QB changes

IMO, there are 3 good teams in the NFC. Saints, GB, TB. Seattle is good too but their defense is flawed. The Cards and Rams are decent. I wouldn't call it a mediocre mess. I would call the NFC east a total mess and the rest of the NFC pretty typical.

The Lions will not win their next 4. The defense is terrible, the offense is below average, the coaching is horrendous, and quite frankly, they don't have much talent on the roster.

As far as the QB situation, they are pretty much in QB pergatory. They have an above average QB that isn't getting any younger. He will be up for a new contract in a few years and will certainly get a huge raise. He isn't capable of carrying a bad team which has been proven over the past 11 years. The Lions pretty much have 2 choices. 1) they extend Matt and try to build new defense and offense with an aging QB. 2) they cut bait now. With his current cap figures I would think they could get a decent return for him.

Hire a new GM & coach and start over. The only problem, is they aren't going to be bad enough to get Lawrence or Fields.

I like Fields. Is he better than Stafford? Really really unknown as the bar is pretty high. If they traded Stafford, they would have the ammo to move up for Fields. But that hurts the overall rebuild giving up picks.

Feel bad for Stafford at this point. He gets almost no help. If I were him, I would demand a trade this offseason with the new GM. It's going to sting watching him win and win playoff games with another team.

Can the defense stop Washington, Carolina, Houston and Chicago enough. The answer is yes if they figure things out quickly. Cook is a beast and the Vikings have been scoring with two good WRs too.

We'll see what happens quickly in the next few weeks.

I agree...If I were Stafford I would demand a trade as well. He could very well end up winning elsewhere if he lands on a team with a very good defense and an offense that is loaded but lacks a QB. The 49ers would be a good landing spot for him. Great coaching & GM, really good defense, and a run based offense that wouldn't need him to carry the team.

If they got a decent haul for Matt (I would guess would be a first and 3rd this year) I would not trade up for Fields. This team needs a lot. I think I would build for a few years.

And we had 10 on the field for that 70 yard run

Even without its still 130 yards. But the 70 still counts. Do we take off Matty's stats when he has a 50 yard TD pass?

I wouldn't like trading up either but you need that QB to have any success. It doesn't work without it. Guess we'll have to see who QB3 is in this next draft too.

49ers, Colts, Cowboys. Lots of teams would want him. Depends on the haul. 1st and 3rd is about right though.

Stafford is not a game manager though. He needs to sling it and get in a rhythm and have time to take his intermediate and deep shots. Him with open receivers will shock him I bet. I really like KG, Hock and Swift as weapons. Marvin was good until this year now average. But wide open receivers on crossing routes would be nice for Stafford to have finally in his career

Stafford needs to become a little more of a game manager vs. "slinging" it to the other team. A really good QB should be able to throw when needed...not just drop back and throw it 30-35 times a game in order to "get into rhythm".

I think Hock and Swift have potential. KG is another problem. He is going to demand a pretty big contract...most likely in that $18M a year range. If you are going to re-build you need to cut bait.

I'd be ok with this. Fitzpatrick could get you through a season or two....but young QB's with talent don't hit the market. If you're not planning on drafting one then you're left with the Fitzpatricks and over the hill Matt Ryan's/Matt Staffords/Tom Brady's of the world that are expensive and will only get you so far.

If I had 2 firsts in this draft I would trade up for Fields/Lawrence. I also like Trask a lot, and he could be available at 8 or so. But you have to start a rebuild with a QB. Just about any other position can be upgraded as you go. Good, young QB's need to be drafted.

Trask will be QB3 in 2021. Might even make a push for QB2

Trask or maybe even Trey Lance will be QB3. I HIGHLY doubt that either passes Fields. My guess is Lawrence and Fields are both gone in the top 3

My guess it goes like this

Lawrence #1
Fields 2 or 3
Trask top 10
Lance top 20

Could very well go like that. Fields is a much better passer than I thought he would be. I'll be curious to see how he does in the playoffs this year. Shit, Fields and Trask could end up playing for it all.

Lions need a much better run game and defense for anyone to excel as a game manager in Detroit. Nobody can be a game manager right now because the other parts fail. Stafford has to be almost perfect for success. He has been very often. But the picks are a problem but at that point the Lions had pretty much already lost or well on their way to losing the game. Can't bring them back every time. Don't have the run game, protection or weapon separation to drop 30 points on everybody.

I wouldn't mind a QB throwing it 25 times & running 6-10 times. But they always get those OC who just want to sling it. Everyone of them.

I know enough to not waste my Sundays watching a Quintricia led football team and reading your crappy opinions.

correct. The Lions are a total mess. Almost no talent on the defensive side of the ball, terrible coaching, and a bad offense.

Finally, you agree with what we have been saying all year (actually, past several years)
