Grading Stafford

I did a little research into money spent on offense around the highest paid QBs in 2014, I thought it might be slightly relevant to the discussion.

Disclaimer: Keep in mind that this was a very crude way of doing things (I did it by cap numbers since that was the quickest and easiest way). I was also going to include draft positions as well, but that would take considerably longer...my main purpose of adding draft positions would be to show that low money could be spent at one position, but might include high draft picks on rookie contracts which would skew the numbers to the low side. I also realize that cap numbers could be vastly different than average salary, but it's my hope that this was evened out (i.e. one position didn't have multiple players in high or low cap years). All data obtained through Spotrac.

you didn't factor in Oline and run game or wins. Incorrect grades.

He graded the sane when we had great pass pro and solid run support. See last year when he lost the entire second half of the season.

Run game missing 6 games. No separation from WRS. And he graded well last year too. Top 5 per PFF in passing.

Instead of grading on the Homer curve like LKP did I will base my grade on stats.

Comp % 25th = D+
YPA - 19th = C-
INT - 13th = C+
TD - 14th = C
QB Rating 21st = C-

Overall grade = C-
Gut feel and eyeball test, I said C-. I thought he looked excellent in only a couple games and parts of games, but average or below in most others. He's got a lot of tools at his disposal, but our offense still struggled to get moving for most of the season. If not for a top tier defense, we'd likely have had a record at or below .500. I hate to sound overly negative here because I thought we had a good year, but I just don't see it with Stafford. I think we could trot any league average QB out there to throw to Calvin, Tate, and the array of TEs and RBs, and they would have had similar results. Put an elite QB at the helm, and we're probably playing in the Superbowl.

So your reasoning for stafford being below average is oline sucks, run game sucks and wrs cant seperate. Thanks for proving me right about mayhew.

Great defense. 11 wins. You were wrong.

Oline injured not sucks. Hurt run game

WRs couldn't separate in 2013, can in 2014 (calvin/Tate).

Great job Mayhew.

Perfect...then stafford sucks ass.

The Stafford/Mayhew argument you're trying to get into doesnt necessarily have to be opposite of each other just because you say they are.

Fact is, this team won 11 games even with a talented QB that struggled most of the year in a poorly designed offense.

There must be some talent on the field.

Great post Cheeno. If it shows anything, it's that there are NUMEROUS overpaid QB's in the NFL.

I'd say #'s 2,4,5,6,7,8,9 and 10 were all "overpaid" this year!

Romo is the only one of the QB's I mentioned that won a playoff game.....and he needed the hand of Goodell to get that.

Injuries and 11 wins.no he doesn't. You were dead wrong. Admit it

Wrong about what? I thought wed be 10-6 vs a tough schedule and miss the playoffs. We were 11-5 vs one of the easiest schedules in the league and beat no one and were 1 n done in the postseason. Yippie?

I'd hardly call handing Aaron Rodgers his ass in Detroit beating "no one"!

I thought this way the first 3 years. But now hes been below average every year of his career except one. You want me to think the other 6 were the outlier? Or the 1 time he was good?

16 game season....gratz on your 1 good win lol. Arod had an off game...as seen when he stomped us in gb. What'd we score? 19 that game? Way to tear it up staff lmao.

Your babbling here has nothing to do with the point of the post.

But, by all means, carry on.

My bad. ..I thought this was a thread about grading stafford. His grade is suck. Your the one babbling about a win vs a divisional opponent at home like 6 months ago.

How many more ways can there be to show he has been nothing more than average before booger and LKP will accept reality.

Their arguments change yearly. Before it was you can't judge a QB on wins and Stafford had 1.5 more drops per game which is a huge detriment to him. He is way better than his stats, get WRs that can catch and you'll see.

Now it's he won that's all that matters, 2.5 more missed throws a game is no big deal.

Need to look at replacement in this draft, after next year he is cutable.
Not overly familiar with QBs on the college level, but I would look as early as round three.

As much as I'd like to, I can't take credit for Grandy's interesting analysis of why Stafford sucks. We come to the same conclusion of course, but in no way do my posts ever border on interesting.
