Grading Stafford

If you want to make the ridiculous argument that a QB is the only reason a team wins or loses on the road, then sure, your point is valid.

But the minute you decide a QB is the primary reason for losses, you have to also admit that a QB is the primary reason for wins, in which case, he's got 11 wins to his credit this season, and only 5 losses.

Now, that's obviously a hugely flawed argument in it's own right. But there are 11 men on each side of the ball, each snap, and to blame one guy at one position is just stupid in my opinion.

Love ya Mitch, but I find that wins/losses argument about as valid as pinning wins and losses on a pitcher in a team sport. I can't count the number of great pitchers who lost 1-0 ballgames. Why? Team sport and one guy can only control so much.

Football? Team sport, and while a QB controls a lot, he only controls so much. Those aren't Stafford losses or wins, they are Lions losses and wins, and every man on the field should are in the blame or glory.

Look at this year. In their 11 wins Stafford completed 64.5% of his passes had 17 TDs and 8 INTs. His QB rating for those games was 93.1. To put that into perspective, if his QB rating for the year was 93.1 he would be ranked 14th....pretty much the middle of the pack.

In their 5 losses he completed 51.5% of his passes, had 9 TDs and 6 INTs and a QB rating of 70.2

You can't blame him for those 5 losses or give him all of the credit for the 11 wins. But, I think it is reasonable to say that if his QB play was "mid level" during those 5 losses they would have had a much better chance to win.

I played with your link. Matt isn't much worse on the road than he is at home. Truth is he's always an average QB. Click on Matt Stafford and Kyle Orton. I've never seen such a close comparison since I forgot the difference between Bill Paxton and Bill Pullman.

Bill, Independence day. Bill, Twister.

Team sport. Defense played their asses off and held like 12 teams to 20 points or less. Our shitty offense had like 11 games scoring 20 or less. Stafford is the qb. Qbs lead the offense. He lead the offense to shit. Hence the losses are more on the offense than the defense. Stafford and lombardi both sucked this year. Oline wasnt good or bad. Qbs are judged historically on if they win or not. Stafford is a loser..and when we lose he has bad games. If he played great and we lose.....this conversation would be completely different. But. ..he never plays great.

Weird how that works out isnt it?

It's quite frightening. Don't worry though. QBR is an extremely flawed stat and Stafford is on the cusp of being elite.

:lmao:

Our only hope is that the offense is complicated and everyone will be better on year two. I'm not convinced....

Ya im pretty sure our offense is simple, dumbed down, and our ocord and qb cant figure out the complexities of the nfl game.

If it was another pos. after 6 years everyone would be calling for his head, the Brandon Inge effect. Hell, even Boesch was ostracized after a season and a half. I get it, football..lots of money - but still I don't understand why anything thinks he's going to turn it around? Just a one year wonder..maybe the NFL figured out how to defend him. It happens but it's over.

I just think it's hard for the slappies to finally admit that the #1 overall pick who was supposed to be a franchise QB is just average.

0-17 vs winning teams is just unacceptable. Time to start over.

Didn't I see someone mention drafting Bryce Petty this year?

The Lions shouldve stopped it at 0-16. "The Qb the Lions drafted following the epic 0-16 season goes 0-16 against winning teams, and the Lions finally pull the plug on him"

I just read on Twitter that Stafford is replacing Peyton Manning on the Pro Bowl roster.

Lol, that's silly. My guess, LKP will be watching. Staffords better than Peyton thread will probably be coming shortly.

I wish we could trade for Peyton and then do a brain swap with Stafford. HoF QB easily.
