Hanley Ramirez

Mitch[/color]]Sometimes you make a trade or sign a guy to get better and worry about 5 years from now in 5 years. I don't care much about his decrease in production. You have Reyes who had been injured, Wilson get years and money like a number 1 when he's not, Pujols getting 200 million plus and 10 years at 32, Buerhle wanting 4 years who is older and is more a number 3 etc.

Every player has some short commings. Its about getting better and winning a WS.
And prospects are just that, prospects, they could be great but on the other hand they could have injuries or just never pan out. Just need better drafting and we will be fine

"Hanley Ramirez's representative talked to the Marlins on Wednesday and asked for a restructured deal after the shortstop was asked to move to third base with the signing of Jose Reyes. The Marlins, upset with this, now are looking to trade Ramirez, the sources said."

i got a text from my friend saying the tigers were talking to the marlins about him, but ive got no idea if he is just speculating or if he has a source (he didnt say, so im guessing the former).

I know everyone calls him a baby but I'm not sure anyone asked him if he'd be okay with it. Wouldn't have stopped Reyes being signed but don't you have to at least ask Ramkrez about it?

You do realize it takes 4-7 years from a draft to truly know what you got. Even if we drafted well this year, it will be 2016 until we know. Baseball is not like the NFL or NBA where draft picks make an immediate impact.

I think that's why I'm usually okay trading for good players, assuming they're not old, for prospects. I remember when I first heard about the Miggy trade when my friend called, it never occurred to "what did we give up". Because I knew he was heck of a played and only 24. Granted he's a better player than Ramkrez but prospects fail a lot.

im not so sure about that, peralta was not happy about moving to third for cleveland, why would he move there for us?

He was just unhappy about being in Cleveland and being pushed way down in the order

If he doesn't want to move from SS for the Marlins, why would he for Detroit?

Pretty sure we would move Peralta to 3rd if need be.

I know.

I was referring solely to him saying that Ramirez could move to 2B/3B/CF down the line.

Huh? Peralta batted mostly 4th or 5th in CLE, depending on pitcher matchups. Here in DET, he has been 6th or 7th, again, depending on pitcher matchups.

He wasn't "moved down" while in CLE.

He could, and probably would if the situation was handled correctly. When you go and sign a guy to take his spot and expect him not to get pissed, that's not what I'd call handling it correctly.

Unless he returns back to 2007-2009 form, he's not worth what it is likely going to cost.

I heard he might have been. "We want you @ 3rd and batting 8th". But who knows. But I think DD promised SS to him.

We're talking about Peralta, not Trammell here. Who cares what he thinks? He had a career year last year which was great, but he'll likely regress and he's only got one year left for little money. If you ask him and he protests, you trade his ass. He's not a roadblock to upgrading.

I would argue 2005 was better and 2008 was pretty close to this year.

Would you agree with the statement that Hanley Ramirez is a better player and would be an upgrade over Peralta?

yes, but peralta is still an important part of the offense and we wouldnt want him pouting any more than the marlins want hanley pouting.

it seems to be moot anyways, the marlins have come out again against the reports that they are trying to trade him.
