IT'S ON!!!......For the Championship

Those guys killed us because they had open looks due to the play of Winston (especially first 10 minutes). He was the main reason they won the first game. Defensive gameplan needs to adjust.

I totally agree about Winston. He was the player of the game. But my point was, we didnt give these guys enough respect. We constantly double teamed Winston and left these guys wide open thinking theyd clank their shots and we'd be off to the races. They came to play and we never adjusted. I still dont get it. We all saw it in the 1st half and JB never changed the gameplan. It was almost like he was playing the percentages that these guys would run out of good shots. It never happened and we paid. Winston kept finding the open guy everytime. Now that I think about it, Winston could have just blindly tossed the ball in the air and still found a sparty. Our defense was that bad.

Personally, and I am backing this up with absolutely no data, I think our best defenders are at the top and in the post. Outside of Matthews, are Poole/Iggy/Livers great? I think Livers is pretty good, but I'm really not sure the other two are, at least they are rarely talked about for their defense.

When I watch Poole, he gets out of position a ton and leaves his feet WAY too much.

I have never thought about Iggy as an elite defender, he seems alright. I actually think Teske moves his feet much better in post defense, Iggy gets lost on occasion.

Simpson, Matthews, and Teske are our best defenders. No question about that. Livers and Iggy are damn solid. Yes, Iggy makes some freshman mistakes from time to time but he's cleaned it up throughout the year. He handles himself well when he has to check bigger 4s as well.

Poole is the only one that ever concerns me. He was a big reason why our D gave up wide open looks against MSU. He was falling for just about every pump fake and overplaying too often. As long as he stays disciplined, he is fine. We all know that's not always the case on both ends of the floor with him.

Don't settle for bad jumpers. Run the offense and drive to the rim . Let the jumpers come as we are running the offense. Should be a great ball game. Hopefully we show up and play a great game !!

Thank you, Coach Bob

Does JB pay you for advice like this?

The team is 26-4. JB isn't going to change the entire gameplan for 1 game this far into the season. He did throw in some new looks against Nebraska and Maryland, but I wouldn't expect full court presses, zones, doing away with the auto-bench. People like to bitch and moan, but they have won 26 games. It's working.

I don't think we see Matthews. I'm split on that issue anyway. They looked great against Maryland. Livers got to play the 3 instead of splitting time at the 4 and 5. He played better and Castleton didn't look completely lost when he spelled Teske.

Iggy is not a great defender. Poole is undisciplined.

Alright, end thread! Everyone bail out guys. The classic Hungry, "Fans are dumb and should not have opinions" post!

Catch ya on the next one!

Anyone got the abort thread gif?

There we go

A few fans can post a lot of good posts without questioning how JB does his job. Other fans do this. It is possible.

You can't argue with what I said, because I'm right. JB is a great coach. You guys are trying to get on here and give your opinion on how he should do his job. I'm glad he doesn't listen to joe blow

so get all sarcastic and mad. Have at it.

Besides, we can't end the thread yet. We need Spartanmack to get on here and tell us how that IF Purdue beats NW, that the game is only for a share of the regular season big 10 title, even though everyone already knows this.

Sure, we are all well aware he is a great coach. But he's not perfect. And he will do things such as the auto-sub that some of us have a problem with. And seeing how other people have handled Winston (pressuring him up the court) and considering that maybe it could be a good switch up for game 2. It is fun to discuss with other like-minded basketball fans who notice similar trends.

I still struggle why you even bother sometimes saying the stuff you do on a message board about opinions. That's why we are here. Talking about the good and the bad. That's what it's about. There's no reason to come in here and squash every conversation with "Fans are dumb, he's the coach, he knows more than all of us." No shit.

Split on Matthews? You're split on if you want to see one of the best wing defenders in the country playing?

You serious, Clark?

Yeah. I know. He is just so damn inconsistent. He dribbles the ball of his foot a lot. He can go an entire game scoring 2 points. Then other games he is great. Which Matthews are we going to get?

Well, I'm giving my opinion that is in opposition to your opinion.

Plus, like I said. There are plenty of people that come on here and post about basketball and don't give opinions on how JB needs to change his philosophy on this or that.

I guess what I'm saying is, it is my opinion that you should strive to be more like them.

I don't ever see Tinsel, for example, giving his opinion on what JB needs to stop doing,

The one that is always the best wing defender on our team.

Everyone on this team has games where they don't score a lot.

I’m a pretty good couch coach. When things are going well, I’m like “that’s good, let’s keep doing that shit;” and when things are going bad, I’m like, “okay, let’s stop doing that shit and go back to doing the shit we were doing when things were going well.”

I’m like that with both football and basketball. In football I’m like “let’s score touchdowns instead of not scoring touchdowns, and let’s not give up touchdowns instead of giving them up.”

In basketball I am like “let’s make baskets instead of not making them, and let’s get stops instead of giving up scores.”

I’ve been watching sports a long time and I know the ins and outs of how they are played.

Yep, exactly. Thank you LOL

Vic, Mchamp, me, you, and a few others don't pollute every thread on the board with our advice to JB. The game threads are completely unreadable, so I'm going to continue to give my opinion on your advice to JB. If you think my posts about the advice to jb posts are unreadable, then good. We're even.

Some of us actually played basketball so maybe we notice things you don't. It doesn't mean any one of us thinks we can do this better than JB. We just might notice something in the heat of the action and want to point it out.

Hard to convey those thoughts quickly when you're watching the game and trying to type on the board from your phone.

Exactly. And going back through the first three pages of this thread, it was all perfectly normal, rational conversation. Matt and I talked about what bothers Cassius. We talked about defense. It was all fine. No need for the whole board police thing to come rolling through and pointing out that we don't know as much as Beilein. That's obvious.
