Let's go get REVIS!!!!!!

Its easy to say that without hearing "your" plan..

TRADE and get picks and have more money for FAs who can contribute instead of guys who are not even on practice squads getting signed because the lions have holes but no money to pay for even average talent.

i get it, you all love watching these guys. individually it is fun, without doubt. but football is a TEAM sport and it takes a TEAM to win the Super Bowl.

not that this year's draft is a good time to trade, but i had said they should trade CJ last year and got crucified for it.

"oh, right...throw away the only guy who did anything worth a damn this year." says the crowd that still fails to grasp that the game is a team sport.

the moment the rookie cap came into play, they should have taken advantage of it and dropped guys who count 10% against the cap. how many teams in the playoffs are giving indiduals this kind of money today? as always, lions are behind the curve and still doing things the old way. teams that took advantage of lower salary players who complete their team are the ones winning, because it is a team sport and those teams get that.

but people here prefer watching individuals and bitching about the lions not playing for the super bowl and wondering why the same problems exist every season.

news flash einstein, the lions can't sniff a FA now because they don't have the money.

hey, but at least we don't have to concern ourselves with trying to get tickets to the super bowl in our lifetime. thank goodness for that, right? Right??? RIGHT?????? ah, the sweet aroma of disgrace that is the lions.

So your saying its better to have no talent and still get no FA's? Cause no one wants to play on a team devoid of talent.

Trading cj is not going to help this team. Everyone drafts with hopes that they can find a player that even comes close to his talent and production. Not to mention no team will want that salary when you factor in what it will cost to trade for him. It would set the team back 3 years before they can build anything. Suh maybe. Realistically what you should be lobbying for is a trade back in the first, which I am for just don't see why a team would at this point.

If you trade away Calvin and Stafford you will have zero free agents wanting to come play for an awful team with no good players.

Trading CJ or Stafford is not an option with how poorly we draft. If we got a bunch of picks back, would you really trust the Lions brass to get quality players?

If that is the case there is no point in even hoping for a successful team....in the NFL you have to build through the draft.

Yeah...let's trade away all the big contract guys...and 50 percent of the cap is used for the guys we trade away...your plan is another 0-16 waiting to happen, without proof that afterward we'd be contending. Brilliant.

Having a few big dollar players is OK as long as they play the right position. I personally don't think WR is one of those positions.

QB, DE, LT...that's about it. But still would be a monster cap hit to trade CJ. That's not palatible.

If you say CJ as a WR shouldn't be getting paid that much, why would anyone trade picks for a player who is getting paid too much?

ding ding ding! we have a winner!

here is my bottom line report card for mayhew:
we have a ton of free agents and not much spending room
we need to sign, resign or draft 8 new starters on defense
were 4-12
what do we CURRENTLY have to show for all the picks weve traded the last 3 years?....whitehead, thomas, sims, best and his mush brain, and an overpriced corey williams most people dont even want on the team.
Did he even sign a free agent last year?
His special teams sucks cause we have no depth cause we never draft after round 4 anymore and when we do pick we pick guys like Hogue that are cut the following year.

A smart team wouldn't.....plus I was talking about trading him before he got that huge deal. It is probably too late now...they are stuck with him.

Quit your ding ding ding. We all know that drafting is key. But saying we're paying CJ too much so we should trade him and think another team would be okay with that and trading picks/players is just dumb.

That wouldn't have worked either. Where ever CJ went, he was going to get paid. Don't make it sound like he duped us and we overpaid him where other teams wouldn't.

i never said were paying CJ too much or that i wanted to trade him. all i said is mayhew blows and even if he was dumb enough to trade a higher salary guy for a bunch of picks....hed fuck up the picks anyways.

I never said he duped the Lions. What I am saying is because of his initial contract he had the Lions by the balls. They couldn't afford to franchise him due to the huge cap hit so they either had to let him go prior to the huge contract or pretty much give him what he wanted. They were in that boat because he played so well, due to the position he plays and because of the old CBA. As far as other teams and what they would have paid him...we will never know. There are some teams that probably would have paid him but then they would likely be in the same boat as the Lions.

So lets say they could franchise him. Eventually they were going to have to pay or let him go for nothing.

)We'll get money to sign the guys we want with a KVB cut, Peterman cut, Stafford extension and Dom/Burleson pay cuts.

2)We will re-sign Houston and Delmas and one starting OLB back, we have Tulloch, both DTs set and we have Bentley/Bartell/Green to fight for the other CB spot. Draft a stud DE and safety. Palmer/Whithead/Lewis can do just as as well as Levy in fact Palmer did last year in 2 wins. The other DE spot is the big issue with Avril overvaluing himself. So they need 3 new defensive starters really, 2 which can come in Round 1/2(De/Safety). We'll see what other DE we get to pair with Young and the rookie top 5 pick and Ronnel Lewis.

3) 4-12 sucked but were are not that bad of a team especially just watching the many many close games. Stafford rebound year like 2011 could fix it alone. We're more of a .500 team really right now based on recent trends. Give me a stud DE, safety, Houston, Delmas back and Detroit can compete for a playoff spot. Stafford is a huge key to that and flipping the turnover differential.

4) Corey Williams was hurt this year and good player in 2010 and 2011. The few games he did play he played well in 2010. Worth the 5th round pick in 2010, no doubt about it. And Mayhew drafted Fairley for the future.

5) Mayhew spent the money last year on Avril, Tulloch, Shaun Hill, Jeff Backus and Jacob Lacey. All free agents. All were worth re-signing at the time and they did a great job to get everybody back they wanted with a tight cap.

6) Logan sucked but the special teams coverage was really good after the bye. Lewis/Whitehead/Palmer/Wendling can all cover on special teams and will get better in year 2. Depth gets rocked when both starting safeties go down at the same time and the 3rd best one(Carey) gets hurt in TC. Same with 2nd/3rd CBs, plus Berry's antics after the draft and your rookie 5th round CB all hurt most of the year. Nobody has enough depth to cover almost everyone getting hurt especially if almost the entire secondary and WR crew gets hurt. Green did a solid job filling in and Bartell had one good game. Florence was a problem after he came back from his stint on IR.

Lions had great depth at DT, tackle, QB, Palmer filled in well for Levy and there was good depth at CB (just a ridiculous number of injuries). Safety no depth but the top 3 safeties got hurt early in the year. Round 2 safety fixes all of that along with Delmas/Carey back healthy. And the Lions didn't give away picks. Many times they gained picks with trade downs. See Jonte Green, see 2009 trade down which gave us a 4th for SLH. At worst they gained a good veteran player like Sims, Houston, Lawrence Jackson, Williams and Hill. And all of those guys were very helpful in 2010 and 2011 and even 2012. This theory you have about the Lions just giving away picks is false and pure stupidity.
