Ya he had a stint here before as defensive backs coach. He was DC with whiz at ARI and with all the turmoil in CLE you are probably right. With him being a DB and coached that position for years I think itd be a good hire for an improved secondary alone.

weve interviewed Caldwell who is the only person who can possibly get peyton manning run out of town. Munchak...who just got fired from the titans. And we wanted to interview jay gruden...who holds a arena league championship. good job mayhew!

There are complaints with every hire, though I doubt most of them will be legitimate. I don't think the Lions could've done much better considering who's out there.

And you can only shake your head at people who are mad that the Lions didn't go after Cowher, Dungy, Gruden, etc.. We don't even know if any of those guys even want to come back and coach, and considering that they didn't come back yet, there's a good chance they don't want to coach.

I'm on board. If they get him then they got who they targeted and that's what I hoped for more than anything. It'll also eliminate excuses in the future (from management) should things go south.

I hear all these TV/radio personalities and fans talking about how Whisenhunt could've been "distracted" interviewing for all these jobs during a playoff week. Didn't the Lions have to ask the Chargers for permission to interview him? If the Chargers thought he was going to be distracted from his duties, wouldn't they have denied these requests?

I doubt he was distracted.

I haven't seen management turning there guy down for an interview in quite some time.

I would've denied any interviews if I was calling the shots for the Chargers. Whisenhunt was the biggest name out there of the coaches available. Success in the post season would have only helped out his stock imo.

I doubt it or else people wouldn't be on the fast track to hire him. Imo it would matter little..
