Lions draft grades

If Tomlinson was a reach it wasn't by much. IMO he's gone by the first few picks in the 2nd round at the latest.

And I know he's Meh in most eyes but I like the FB pick. Nothing wrong with going FB.

The Pats at 32 and the Bucs at 34 were said to be wanting Tomlinson. Several people said the Pats were set to take him at 32 and were mad the Lions did. Its a good pick at a need spot. But because a mock had him late 2nd we wont get credit where had the pats taken him at 32 they would be applauded for getting a solid player that everyone passed on.

Again patriots aren't the best at drafting, they aren't the gold standard. They win because of great coaching and QB play.

Not sure where the report came from or what makes it true, but regardless we still don't know if it's a good pick.

If he turns out to be an elite guard it will be a good value. If he turns out to be nothing more than average or worse it will be viewed even more as a reach because of position and predraft talk.

I agree with the pats not great at drafting but if Tomlinson did go to NE people around the league and this board wouldn't call it a reach..

It was a solid pick.

Pats reached on almost all their picks except malcom brown.....but they win super bowls so who the fuck cares. If they picked tomlinson Itd still be a reach. A reach has nothing to do with who picks him. ...its where. When your selected sooner than previously thought.....its a reach. Brewers main point is....is our team better. Is it day 1 guaranteed tomlinson will make our team better than sims did?

Actually the point is..no one and I mean no one knows if he's a reach. He could be all pro or shit. They're just guesses.

Inkfreq, thanks for posting the Walters and your thoughts.

Tony as always thanks for yours too.

Glad they filled on both lines, the running back, and defensive backfield.

I would give them a B. Looks like a solid draft.

It's already been explained, ad nauseum, why Tomlinson was not a reach. BUt what the hell right? A mock draft that says second round grade should always know more than the NFL coaches and managers who got him invited to the first night of the draft for a reason.

A couple of years ago, Kyle Long was "projected" to be a third round pick too. Bears took him in the first, and he's helped solidify that line. One of the better O-Linemen in the game. So really I don't care if people think a team "reached" for a pick.

Having an incredibly ignorant opinion doesn't mean you don't have the right to the opinion.

If you assume the reports are true that the past were going to select him, thing is why would patriots release this? They want their pick knowing he wasn't their 1st choice?

You're going on what the media is telling you, the same media you are bashing said they don't know what they are talking about when they said he was a second round pick.

Doesn't matter now, because he is a 1st rounder. Bottom line is there is no reason, besides hope, to expect him to be a better NFL player next year than Sims was last year.

As a fan I hope he is amazing, realistically I expect a decline in 2015.

I don't know..Sims was pretty bad last season.

Its not an ignorant opinion. ..its value. You have a choice. Approximayely the 9th best lineman in the draft. Or the 2nd best 4-3 dt. Arguably the 2nd best de at rushing the passer. Those are choices you make....we went high character and less talent value. But as ink said....if he turns out to be a perennial pro bowler. ...who cares what round he was drafted in.

Tony is dumb. That is all....

Ps the team fails all the time. ...i want to see them actually succeed for once and the draft is a key reason why we've sucked for the last 20 years. Nice job millen jr.

So i apologize for having such high expectations that i would think you could get more than 1 starter and a bunch of rotational guys out of an entire draft.

Yeah, I'm the dumb one!! Lol. You do not want to see this team succeed. You're a fkn liar and we all know it!!

I thought you said you liked this draft?? Dude, you're a joke. Now we have one starter and a bunch of rotational guys?? Tomlinson should start, Abdullah will get a shitload of playing time and maybe even win the job from Bell, Carter should play, Wright should compete for the starting gig with Walker, Burton...meh, Diggs will compete and possibly return punts. Hell, Robinson might even win the RT job!! Wtf is your problem?? You are such a whiny fkn cunt...

A decline from what? The OL?

Or the best pure Guard in the draft .....Kiper

Or a CLONE of Larry Warford ......Mayock

Or this pick makes perfect sense.....Jeremiah

Since you care so much about the "experts" opinions.

How about the third best QB or fifth best Punter? I didn't realize the 2nd best or 5th best DE/DT is better than the 9th best lineman?

It's not, Mitch. Your boy is reaching! Lol. Tomlinson was one of the top Guards coming into the draft.

Ignorance
[ig-ner-uh ns]
noun
1. the state or fact of being ignorant; lack of knowledge, learning, information, etc.

Since you have zero knowledge of the actual draft grades that teams put on a player, since you were not at the combine, did not scout the players, etc... you are in a state of being ignorant.

It absolutely is an ignorant opinion. Not one person outside of an NFL war room has any idea how the teams actually graded the players. Every opinion any of us have is based on blogs, mock drafts, and people who also have no idea what the teams actually graded a player.

Sorry bud, but the opinion that the pick is a reach is an ignorant opinion by the definition of the term.

If any of this was true than millens picks would have been successful. Just because a team has someone graded higher than just about anyone else doesn't make them right.....want proof....eric blue chip ebron. Atleast we actually needed a guard. ...

Here is the simplest fact of the NFL Draft, and it's one we should all get used to...

Teams pick players based on their desire to make their team better, not based on what mock draft sites and experts like Mel Kiper think.

Obviously Laken Tomlinson, Ameer Abdullah, Alex Carter, Gabe Wright, Michael Burton, Quandre Diggs, and Corey Robinson were the guys Mayhew and Caldwell though were guys that could come in and help the team.

It doesn't matter to them where these guys were "projected" to go. It shouldn't matter to use where these guys were "projected" to go. The people who did those projections aren't NFL coaches, and they aren't for a reason.

For all we know, the Lions looked over the draft board, and felt Tomlinson was the #1 player they wanted, and felt overjoyed that he "fell" to them at #28. There may have been guys that were rated higher, but the coaches didn't feel felt the mold of the team, or what their vision was.

How many guys have we seen drafted into a system that didn't fit them, and busted, but then signed with a team that fit them better and had success? Saying a guy is the 1st, 4th, or 22nd rated player at his position means jack and shit. Saying a guy is the number one rated player by our staff for our system means a million times more.

The goal isn't to get the highest rated guys, it's to make your team better, and the only people who know what they want in a player is the coaches and management staff that makes the pick.

Your argument fails because it assumes Millen had a clue what he was doing. I think his track record shows he was about as ignorant as you or me.

Your opinion that anyone was a reach is ignorant. It's uninformed by anyone with the authority to speak on the matter.

When Millen made his picks, they were for the most part uninformed too, and that shows. You can't argue Millen would have been successful if he was ignorant too.
