Lions hire Darrell Bevell as OC

You hate him anyways. Why the fuck do you care?

Because we proved this year that a run game cant carry us. So lets go all in on a run game! Millen, Mayhew...now Quin...just decades of dumb decisions after another. I love what Quin has done with his drafts and has hit homeruns on some trades. But this roster is completed depleted. The one guy youre paying 130+ million to and you want to cater your entire team to a run game that features a guy that has been injured like 3 years in a row. Then you hire an offensive coordinator that completely goes against Stafford style of play. Im all in....im good...try something different cause what were doing isnt working. But if i was Stafford i would demand a trade lol. You thought he looked like he didnt give a fuck this year?...just wait til next year when were attempting to run the ball vs CHI and Min twice a year and then they asked Stafford to bail them out in the 4th qtr when were down 20 points.

I think this happens more often than not,
see other Detroit teams, and every other city with a star player getting the highest stratosphere type of money and long contract after having good/excellent and great years in the professional sport.

Every one of these sports are team oriented, key players for sure like a QB or Center in NBA, Sniper goal scorer in NHL, and MVP/CyYoung type in MLB,

Player gets the richest or close to in the sport and now he is expected to bring championships, when he fails due to a plethora of things from coaching, management, depth of star/complimentary players, or a average or good year from the player alot of people are just pissed and have to blame someone,
the player making the most money is usually the one. Stafford, Cabrera, etc.

Cabrera is old and out of his prime. Everyone here says Stafford is a top 10 qb. Thats the difference. If you want to be top 10...play like one....and ill call you top ten. Im a fatter 38 yr old version of my former self....i dont run around saying im all state in track.

Theres very good reasons for this hire. He has his own offense, he can make adjustment and cooter clearly cant, and he can call a game. In my opinion thtas amuch better position than we were in with Cooter.

But theres also several reasons this was a bad hire. His offenses have been horrible passing offenses. like bottom 7 mosts years. His run offenses have been good only when AP and Lynch were his backs. The second lynch retired they went to the bottom of the barrel. His pass offenses relied heavily on PA roll outs and creating after a play breaks down...not stafford strengths. Stafford has sat in shotgun and got rid of the ball in less than 2 seconds his entire career...or crumples into a ball and gets sacked. So we hired an OC that does not mesh at all with the QB style of Stafford....you know...the guy we pay 137 million for.

Itll be interesting to see just how good Bevell is and see if he adjusts his offense to staffords strengths. This team can not rely on a 60% run game the way he did in SEA....we will lead the league in 3 n outs.

Pride Of Detroit Lions PODcast breaks down everything you need to know about new Detroit Lions OC Darrell Bevell. 33 minutes.
Jerry Mallory joins the PODcast crew to break down the Lions? new coaching hire.

HEAR YE! HEAR YE!
The white smoke has billowed from the roofs of Allen Park and that means a new Detroit Lions offensive coordinator has been announced by the secret society of the Bearded Council. Pope Darrell Bevell is the chosen one, and now we all must revel in the era of Bevell.

Therefore we have called for yet another EMERGENCY PODCAST to discuss our new offensive coordinator overlord. But this week, we brought in some help. Jerry ?don?t call me Jeremy? Mallory makes his much-anticipated return to give his thoughts on the hire.

THIS WEEK ON THE EMERGENCY PODCAST:
Hey! The Lions chose someone that wasn?t from the Patriots tree and wasn?t still in the playoffs. The gang tries to shake off the initial shock of that.

Jerry Mallory explains why he?s just lukewarm on the hire, but also has a take on Bevell that leaves room for some serious optimism.

How is the Lions? offense going to change in terms of scheme and personnel with Bevell at the helm?

What does this mean for Matthew Stafford? Is this a sign they have less faith in the franchise quarterback?

The gang gives their grades on the hire.

Dude, you look at things with such negativity. It's amazing lol.

Looking at old seahawks forums, seems like their reaction to Bevell being fired last year was about the same as JBC being fired here. About the same complaints.
Too scripted, questionable decisions, poor 3rd down play calls.

I've never seen a successful offensive coordinator yet who came in and forced his playbook on a team regardless of whether or not they had the right people to run it.

I've seen every successful/great coordinator come in and tailor a playbook to fit the strengths of the team.

All this talk of "Stafford will be a game manager" and "We're going to run the ball all the time".... if either statement is true, we just landed another bad coordinator.

If Bevell is good, and I hope he is, he's going to work with the entire offense to get the most out of them, and there's going to be a lot of people surprised who expected this to be a total re-hash of exactly what he's done before.

So what is our strength? Certainly isn't throwing the ball. Unless of course Bevell is another coach who is blind sighted and think Matts a top QB. So back to the original question, what is our strength?

Pride Of Detroit Lions Webvideo What the Darrell Bevell hire means for the Detroit Lions. 66 minutes.
Miss our Twitch stream last night? We?ve got it on demand!

Are podcasts not your thing? Do you like giving your eyes some work but are sick of making your brain doing all that reading?

Well, we?ve got good news for you! We?ve fired up a Twitch channel, which is live video streaming where we talk Detroit Lions, chat with Lions fans, and occasionally play some video games, too.

On Thursday night, four of our Pride of Detroit staffers?Alex Reno, Jeremy Reisman, John Whiticar and Chris Perfett?joined in a live chat about the Detroit Lions? latest coaching hire: offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell.

Jeremy is feeling pretty optimistic. Alex is just glad it?s finally over. John and Chris have their reservations but are withholding their final judgements until we see some results.

We talk about a wide range of topics this week, including how this hire changes the Lions? offseason plans, who may be on Detroit?s radar now that Bevell is in town, and what kind of schematic changes we can expect. If you stick around long enough, we even talk a little NFL Draft in there at the end.

Scott Linehan fired by Dallas. I would have absolutely NO issues with bringing him in as a passing game coordinator. He’s a vertical threat, downfield style coach.

If only we had a vertical threat, downfield style QB.

And every 1 yard gain and incomplete pass will result in the hilarious posts of....?great hire, Patrica?. ?Nice fucking offense, Bevell?.

Wash. Rinse. Repeat.

But you are 100% right. Good coaches work with what they have and find a way to use their strengths.....not force their system and wait until they have all of ?their guys?. Bevell will only last as long as Patricia so he better be in win now mode from day 1.....because another shitty year and Patricia will likely be replaced.

i know you guys think im the negative one....but i havent said one word against patricia and im kind of shocked how much the fan base has thrown in the towel on him in year 1. This entire roster was a walking scrap heap of shit with little to no depth accross the roster. When youre that thin and Lang, Tate, Marvin, Kerryon, are being filled with the likes of Wiggins, TJ Jones, Zenner...and oh by the way Lawson is starting at corner along with 2 other dudes i never heard of....thats on Quin. The roster was terrible. Dline was junk until Snacks got here...props to Quin for making something happen. Linebackers were probably the worst in the NFL. Secondary was a joke. And they somehow turned Stafford into a pile of shit...the only guy we used to be able to count on for 20+ points went like 7 games in a row not scoring over 20. Pathedic.

Pasquiloni is garbage and Cooter is awful....so he didnt have much help there. Granted thats on him for not hiring better in year 1. So itd be unfortunate if he gets let go after year 2 when we have another down year and have to start over again. Not cause he does these great things to make our team better...but imo the first 2 years are going to be a complete shit show and it wasnt really on him.

I think he loves the idea of Bevell because he feels he wont have to look over his shoulder and micro manage or 2nd guess every call the OC makes anymore. Cooter was a fucking imbecile. Patricia will like feeling more confident in an OC that can call a game on his own.

Its on Quin to get him pieces this off season...ALOT of pieces. It will take an act of god to field a complete team by next fall. If he does then we have a CHANCE to compete with the rest of the division. He doesnt fill holes...and were toast...nothing Patricia will be able to do.

Detroit Lions Podcast Episode 196 ? Free Agency and Draft Talk Begins. 66 minutes.

In this episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris and Case are joined live in studio by Jeff Risdon. Jeff is in town to cover the Shrine game, and from there he and Chris will be heading off to cover the Senior Bowl and dig deep on key draft prospects for the Detroit Lions. Case does Free Agency, and evidently there was some coach hired that we should talk about?

Detroit Lions Podcast Welcomes Darrell Bevell
The biggest piece of business this week is to cover the hiring of Offensive Coordinator Darrell Bevell. To say that everyone is surprised would be an understatement. The beat media folks knew someone was coming but had no idea who. It was fun to watch everyone scramble, research, speculate, and finally report on what he brought to the team. Masterful work by the Detroit Lions in keeping things quiet and getting their guy. Risdon also talks about who else might have wanted him but *didn?t* wind up getting him. Overall, this looks like a good hire for the team. One which brings optimism for the future. Don?t worry, the Detroit Lions Podcast counts the ways.

After that we get our first cut on Free Agency from Case. He finds himself lining up very closely with Justin Rodgers? thinking from the Detroit News. He takes us through a number of positions and points out where there are possible fits, where there are gaps between needs and player availability, and which players we just might need to pay attention to. Jeff Risdon drops a little nugget on a CB to keep an eye on as well. Good stuff, the Detroit Lions Podcast fires up your Free Agency thinking.

Draft Coverage Goes Big
From there we move into Jeff?s coverage of the Shrine Game practices this week. He gives a great breakdown of what the game is all about, some famous names who have been here before, and who to look for. He also has a few fun stories about some player/coach interactions. Don?t overlook this game. Detroit Lions like Theo Riddick, Zach Zenner, and Quandre Diggs all came up out of the Shrine Game. If you care about the draft, it?s definitely worth your time.

The Detroit Lions Podcast also lets loose on the expanded coverage you?re going to see from the Senior Bowl. Jeff, Sandman, and Chris will all be there bringing you the latest news livestreamed from the sidelines in a Daily Diary as well as next week?s podcast in a video format.
