Lions trade for Damon Harrison and is voted Lions Defensive Player of 2018

It's irrelevant to the team that traded the pick away but very relevant to the team acquiring the pick.

For a late round pick. Opportunity cost matters a bit more for Round 1-3

And Harrison needs to continue to be durable and a very good run stuffer

There is a cap space cost too

But by that logic if the pick we trade turns in to one of the greatest of all time for the Giants, does that suddenly make this a bad trade?

I agree brewer. You trade for a pick. What that pick becomes is irrelevant because your assuming that's the player the other team would have taken in the same spot.

My point was, as I said, I value proven talent over rolling the dice on draft picks. I could have not listed who the players acquired in that trade were and my point would have remained the same. Your example just happened to support my opinion on this instance.

the opportunity cost is the same as the cap space used. It's what you could have got for the amount of cap space that he will be using.

Of course, he needs to continue to be durable.

As far as the draft pick...it's pretty much worthless when being used by the Lions (or many other teams for that matter)

Recent 5th round picks by the Lions

Crosby
Agnew
Dahl
Antwione Williams
Michael Burton
Caraun Reid

No reason at all to expect otherwise.

As you've mentioned numerous times, Lions have a ton of room. I think this is the least consequential thing of all. But since you mention it, his contract is very friendly for the Lions. No dead money involved, team isn't obligated beyond 2020. Slam dunk.

They had the room to fit his contract in this year so it's no problem...and they won't have a worthless DE eating up a bunch of cap space next year.

Lions also not expected to bring back TJ Lang.....saving $9M in cap space. But that does mean we need a replacement.

I?d say Agnew is the only good pick of the bunch.

I didn't know people around here were so sensitive.

I'll try to remember that in the future.

Doesn't phase me in the slightest but leave that political shit over on the other board.
Why bring it here? That's all....

I think saying he's the best player at his position is a stretch. Isn't A-A-ron Donald considered to be the best DT in the league?

This guy's list has Harrison at #8. I'm guessing that the guy that he will be replacing is not in the top 40.

He's the best at stuffing the run at his said position. Nobody has been better the last 3 yrs. Pushing OLinemen back, plugging holes, taking on double teams - Harrison is the best. Not the best DT in the game tho. Maybe the best NG tho....

No prior comment posted regarding the thread topic's subject matter. Pays a backhanded complement in order to include a quote indicating what the true intent was, as if calling another member out for a post made on the off-topic political forum would be anything other than half-assed trolling. None of the Lions players have ever knelt during the National Anthem @ Ford Field, so its utter irrelevance in this Detroit Lions team forum is just too obvious. That post was soo transparent, that it should have become invisible to the eye, but mod, self-deletion, or member post blocking works too.

So has this deal been finalized yet? Get Snacks medically cleared ASAP, so he can play vs the run-happy Seasquawks this Sunday...b/c out of all defensive positions, his PTNT assignment should be the simplest. Plug the gaps, attract double-teams, push the run blockers backward, stuff the run. Plus he has two former Giants teammates on Lions' D to get some new schemes lowdown from.

Hoping he can suit up for Sunday. Seattle is a run first team and Snacks could be play an important role in derailing that.

Where does the Damon Harrison trade rank in all-time Detroit Lions trades?
Is this a top-five trade of all-time?

Lions Roundtable: Does the addition of Damon Harrison make Detroit a playoff team?
The Detroit Lions sent a fifth-round pick to the New York Giants in exchange for a 355-pound defensive force along the interior. Does that make them a playoff team?

If he does play Sunday, he will not have a bye week to recover at all this season... Does that concern anyone? I figure he only plays 40 - 60ish percent of the snaps anyways, which is still a lot, he should be ok without that week. I don't know how players feel about the bye but I'm sure they CHERISH it and it would suck to see him have to play all 17 weeks, but I for sure want him to!
