lol at American cars 2.0

These stats are purely a popularity contest. People who own these foreign vehicles need to praise their particular auto to justify (in their own mind) that going out of the U.S. to the foreign companies was the correct decision. It's really that simple.

Actually, no. I have a problem with this whole "pride for Detroit" thing. People have too much pride to admit that Detroit sucks and it's largely because of these American cars and their companies sucking. Yet they still keep buying these POS's because they're "made in Detroit". And they keep enforcing these companies to continue building crappy cars because so many people buy them just because they're made here. Detroit, and Flint, are basically shells of what they used to be - almost single-handedly because of poor business practices the big three had in the 70's, 80's and 90's. Yet, let's buy American because I want the money to go to some rich Ford CEO that pockets millions while screwing blue collar workers!....right. No thank you. I'll take the better product, made in America by the way, that hasn't destroyed towns in the US.

You pay much attention to Japan's economy? So you'd rather line the pockets of some Japanese CEO who screws American blue-collar workers? Like there's a distinction? And that's your purchase motivation?

Yes, people outside of Detroit. But the people around here are blind, or purposely blind, to how crappy these auto companies have made our area - to their credit they are largely the reason this area got built up so much in the first place.
There are more people outside of Detroit participating in those surveys than in Detroit.

ya think?

So you honestly think that foreign vehicle manufacterer's top execs aren't making exorbant amounts of money? You may want to do some reasearch on Japan and China before blasting US based companies.

Currently own a CTS and have not put a dime into it outside of standard maintenance for a vehicle while observing plenty of friends "dependable foreigns" go in routinely for recalls, and non-warranty issues.

I don't care if they destory Japanese towns....They're doing great things here...actually building factories and employing US workers.

I disagree, my interior is far better than a lot of higher end American cars. My mother in law has a GMC Acadia and it was like $50,000 once all the stuff was put in and it's all cheap plastic. For $18,000 you can't beat this: http://www.stopbada.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/honda-civic-hybrid-interior-1.jpeg
And IMO that's better than this $35,000 2012 Buick Enclave interior (which represents the typical "luxury" American design) - http://bautos.net/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/2012-Buick-Enclave-Interior.jpg

I guess if you like cheesy wood paneling - then more power to you.

So the Japanese are "employing" U.S. workers and Ford is screwing them. Just so I got that right.

Ford already screwed them, along with the other big 3. They're just now starting to recover from that. The Japanese auto makers never blew up US towns in the first place.

Civics are for chicks and gay dudes .....and we already know you're not really a chick.

Well, will you break the news to my wife for me?

I just asked my wife ...out of the blue, "Is a Civic a chick car?" and without blinking an eye she immediately replied, "Yes!"

She knows cars too. Then for fun (like wearing stretchy pants in your room) we looked up the 2010 Civic with its 140hp engine.

"See, that's why it's a total chick car," she said. 29mpg HWY vs 24mpg HWY for the 8-passenger, 290hp V-6 GMC Acadia

Somehow I doubt MEN are critical of the plastic accents in the Acadia when they're passing you on the right because you're little chick car can't go any faster.

I bet your wife drives a pickup truck? An Acadia has almost twice the HP because it's about twice as heavy.

Also,

Top speed:
2011 Acadia - 118 MPH
2010 Civic - 120 (governor kicks in)

0-60:
2011 Acadia - 8.2
2010 Civic - 9.5

Sounds totally like it's worth the extra money....In fact, I wish I had spent the extra $20,000 to get a car that's 1.3 seconds faster 0-60....how manly would that be?

Then when it falls apart in a few years I can be all manly and spend hours in the garage, with grease all over my hands, repairing all the broken parts! Cause I'm a MANLY MAN!

But in the end, I doubt that already at highways speeds that giant car would be able to easily pass me if I rally didn't want them to. Did I mention GIANT car?

Not sure why you need 8 seats, but I'll take $20,000 less, 5 seats, 10 MPG more and better interior any day than the opposite of that just to look, somehow, more manly in a giant car I don't need that is a piece of crap. I'd also argue that that's more soccer mom than manly and anyone trying to convince you otherwise is just trying to sell you a car. Unless you drive some sort of sports car or a pickup truck there really is only "girl car", "rice rocket", or "soccer mom".

Why are you guys even debating this shit! Just buy a Ford and you get the best of both worlds.

For the record I know several people with Acadia's and they are crap. The interior does not hold up. At least in the basic models.

I do too. And I am beginning to hate M&B09 again.

Dude, you bought a Civic because you're relatively young and you make no money. People don't buy an Acadia to commute by themselves to an hourly job and then drive home. That is why *your comparison* of your Civic to the Acadia was so fucking stupid.

The reason you have a Civic is because you can't afford anything else. You are in a situation of having to buy within a certain price point because you have no other options.

So you chose to buy a Honda Civic. And just like the majority of posters here teasing you and making fun of you (for not buying American, for being a pussy, for being a girl, etc), I'm guessing you get just a little grief from time to time in real life.

Or, more likely, you don't really get any grief but you're just a little sensitive about owning a Honda Civic and therefore go out of your way to justify -- in your own mind -- why you do. Because you have this sense of paranoia that everyone is judging you as you roll along in your 140hp Civic.

(Oh, by the way, I'd love to see the top speed of your 2010 Civic with four adults and luggage in the trunk, but that's besides the point .... you don't have kids, or friends that you drive anywhere with).

So you start these stupid threads as your personal catharsis for every day annoyances --

People in Michigan typically support US automakers, yet you don't -- boy, you're really the ScottChicoHall villian now!

People in the parking structure you use every day driving to your job sometimes pull in backwards so you start a thread about that and the creme de la creme ..... you feel it is a moral imperative to have inside furniture on your porch and have gone to great lengths to keep that stupid topic alive.

In the world of 'entry level cars' you chose a Civic for its "reliability," among other attributes, because you can't afford the standard upkeep of a more expensive car.

You have a Civic because you chose to have one.

Stop trying to justify why you bought it when nobody else gives a shit and get used to being teased about it.

To think you could have bought an Acadia Denali like your mother-in-law .... please.

By the way, my wife does not drive a truck. She drives a bad ass crossover wagon with twice the hp of your chick car.
