Hughes saying Houston will sign with us for 5 million per year when the Pats were showing interest.

Looks like Houston had interest and 5 million is the right price which is what he signed for at 5 years 25 million.

Looks like Dolphins were interested too. And hughes didn't want Houston to go.

I didn't see anywhere where ' hughes says he didn't want Houston to go. Maybe my eyes..

I certainly hope we aren't going to start making threads about stupid shit people said. This forum will be littered with dumb shit posted by LKP

Everything I say about 2014 will happen. This team is loaded with talent. Just pointing out hughes being dumb now saying there was no interest in Houston. Clearly there was with the Pats and Dolphins.

well, you can't say everything you say will happen...that is just stupid. You already said they were a super bowl team....are you guaranteeing that? With a good draft this team has the ability to win 10-11 games if EVERYTHING goes their way. If things don't go their way it could be a 7 win team again. I think this team is closer to an 8 win team than 11....but 11 could happen.

I think they can win the Super Bowl and are closer to an 11-12 win team than what they have shown in 2013 and especially 2012.

Need some health, some better luck with recovery rates and tweak Stafford's footwork just a little but keep all the good. Tons of talent to move the ball, score and make stops.

I dont care how much talent this has they need to learn how to close out a game. On their little losing streak they held the lead in the 4th quarter in every game I believe. This teams will not be an 11 win team unless they can learn to close out.

You can blame injuries amd bad breaks all you want, the fact is we had talent unough to get the lead we just couldnt keep it. Until we leard how to win those games, we'll be lucky to win 8

I think they are closer to missing the playoffs than a Super Bowl contender. Vegas insider has the Lions at a 60/1 to win the 2015 SB which is 19th.

i wouldn't consider Vegas insider as a reliable prediction on how any team will finish this early. Vegas lines are very fluid and usually changes several time a year depending on different factors (and even more-so throughout the season). this will change again after the draft and UDFA settles, and again after training camp starts, and again after pre-season, etc...

that being said, i don't think they'll be super bowl bound... could they make an improbable run? sure, but it's not likely.

nothing is 100% reliable but an outside source that is unbiased and knows a lot about all teams is a better predictor than Lion homers

"NE wont be able to pay him. SO Houston will have to decide between winning and not making much in NE or going for the most money he can find....which wont be much cause of the cb market this year. I think he signs with us for about 5 mil per year. "

man that hughes really knows what the fuck hes talking about....everything he said came true. 5 mil a yr for a corner means ur shit. When your market cant get a SINGLE TEAM to pay you more than that.,...it means youre shit. What don't you understand? Thank god LKP is here....hes constantly proving me right....

It's easy to say things like this when you can just simply blame injuries, luck, and a shift in the magnetic field if you are wrong.

5 million per is not cheap especially in a heavy supply market. It's mid tier. Other teams were interested, so you were wrong. Both Pats and Miami. Lions got a good CB back who just happened to be hurt in 2013 (hamstring and foot injuries). Expect good things from our number 1 CB in Houston in 2014. A CB that Miami and New England wanted. Detroit moved quickly and that move will shine in 2014 and beyond. Great job Mayhew.

Injuries(more than the opposing team) and bad fumble recovery rates were big culprits in 9 losses. Throw in some crazy picks (though footwork could be tweaked) and blocked FGs and shanked punts and you've got a talented team that really is an 11-12 win team. Facts are facts. There are reasons things happen and it's not because Detroit isn't talented.

All of those things are just excuses...not facts. The facts are: the players on the team turned the ball over too much; the players on the team did not recover enough fumbles; the players on the team shanked punts; the players on the team missed key FGs or had them blocked; the players on the team that were back ups were not up to the task at hand; the Lions record was 7-9. Those are facts....what you are doing is making excuses then creating a hypothetical that if the things that actually happened wouldn't have happened you assume that the Lions would have won 11-12 games.

facts are Houston signed on march 13th....players were visiting teams at that point already (Bush was in town the same day). LKP is just twisting shit to make it sound like Detroit resigned their own prior to FA. They didn't. Houston tested FA and didn't like anything he was hearing? WHy?....cause hes crap and the other teams didn't offer anything. Mayhew over pays for crap yet again...nice job mayhew!

5 mil IS cheap for a supposed #1 corner (lkp keeps calling him that). What a player is worth is a GREAT indication of how good he is. Our secondary doesn't make shit....which is why they are shit....Dolphins had 20 mil in cap space and still didn't offer him a del worth taking. NE had zero cap space and offered him peanuts. As I stated in that thread he had a choice to either play for peanuts and be on a winner. Or negotiate with our GM who bends over for veteran FAs time and time again and pinch every penny he could out of him. Mayhew bends over yet again!

Free agency wasn't open yet just the window to talk to other teams. Houston had interest. Detroit got him on a smart deal. They didn't overpay but they got a number 1 CB. He's a good player in 2011/2012 and can be in 2014 if he isn't injured like 2013.

Fumble recovery is luck on both sides. The Lions had plenty of costly injuries. There was one shanked punt and it was costly. Blocked FG was due to injury on the Oline against Cincy. Some of Staffords picks were flukey. These are all facts which screw over an 11-12 win team like Detroit really is. The Lions were really an 11-12 win team in 2013 talent wise and will be in 2014.

players on the team = talent
2013 production by those players
result = 7-9
