Look at this Gem

players on the team = talent
2013 production by those players
result = 7-9

Due to bad luck recovery rates and being more injured than the opponent usually. That'll change in 2014. 11 wins at least.

LKP...once again, STFU about "bad luck" you annoying POS. Damn I wish everyone here could punch you with brass knuckles on every time you defer to bad luck for an excuse.

If only the site could ban any post you make that contains that phrase

Facts are facts. The recovery rates were bad luck.

"more injured"

Does that refer to quantity or quality?

I would imagine losing a Rodgers or Cutler is worse than losing several lesser players.

Like when Detroit lost Calvin and Burleson and Jason Jones against the Packers Week 5 and the Packers basically had everyone but Casey Heyward and Bulaga. Detroit was more injured that game and it cost them the division.

Or we can talk about how injured the Cowboys and Falcons were allowing Matt Flynn to beat them.

And McCown is better than Cutler and the Bears didn't lose Forte, Marshall, Jeffrey or Martellus Bennett at all.

What about the Steelers, Bucs, Eagles, and Ravens games?

All crucial and I don't remember the Lions having significant injury disadvantages

Steelers game Lions had a ton of injuries. Burleson/Broyles, Quin second half, Bell 4th Quarter when he was running well, Ansah and Jones, Bentley which led to Carey at nickel and Gomes at safety. Both got torched on that 97 yard TD drive by the Steelers.

Eagles game, Eagles had no injuries other than Maclin. Lions missing Bush, Waddle, Jones, Broyles.

Bucs game, the Loins were healthier. We dominated them but shot ourselves in the foot with 5 turnovers, the last 2 were pretty flukey with Durham and Calvin. That is one of the 2 losses I mentioned where the Lions were healtheir.

Ravens game. Jones/Broyles. Ansah banged up shoulder. Houston and Slay (top 2 CBS) having Green play. Green did ok. Offense was healthy but again some bad timely turnovers.

No depth...nice job mayhew!

Injuries(more than the opposing team) and bad fumble recovery rates were big culprits in 9 losses. Throw in some crazy picks (though footwork could be tweaked) and blocked FGs and shanked punts and you've got a talented team that really is an 11-12 win team. Facts are facts. There are reasons things happen and it's not because Detroit isn't talented.

The point is you already have built in excuses.. if we only win 6 games you already have the list of excuses. In your mind it will never be cause we just don't have the talent. Or the other team is better..

It used to be the case in the Millen years. It's not the case anymore. We have more or enough talent to match any team in this league.

No depth...nice job mayhew!

Steelers game. It was top two DEs. Tough break there. Willie Young was good depth most of the year but did not have a good game. Same with Taylor. Good depth just not on that day. Safety losing Quin was huge. Carey might have filled in better but he was forced to play nickel CB with Bentley hurt. So you are down to 4th string Gomes. Tough break. Bush is a good player but couldn't get his footing that day with Bell out.

Eagles game. Bell moved the ball but couldn't hang onto it in a blizzard. Bell is a good depth obvioulsy just not in a blizzard. Tough break with a blizzard. And with the Waddle injury, not sure if Hilliard was hurt but they went with Fox. Bad coaching move there if Hilliard was healthy.

Ravens game. Green did a solid job (mainly second half). Too bad Houston and Slay were both hurt turning to the 5th string Green alongside Mathis. Broyles wouldn't have saved the turnovers. Willie Young had a good day in run D, 4 hurris and Taylor did ok with Jones hurt. Good depth. We didn't give up a TD and Tucker was hitting miracle FGs.

Then why don't we win year after year? No one can be that unlucky or ridiculed with injuries. Eventually you have to look at the core players and if they're good enough.

lol...so we have good depth....but whenever they get he chance to play, they suck. Oh, it all makes so much sense to me now BWahahahahahahaa....

2010 Stafford got hurt. Hill went 3-7 despite the Dline beasting. Best was here but had the turf toe problem.

2011 we did well and hung on despite a decimated secondary and no Best.

2012 a 6-2 start became 4-4 because of special teams and 0-8 finish was a big result of injuries (all weapons hurt but Calvin) and lack of depth at safety or starting second safety. The talented DEs had a down year. Avril and Young especially. KVB could be expected and Jackson was always a backup. Best/Delmas injuries really hurt with no depth (LeShoure unknwon coming in but Bell did well), Bush or Quin yet.
2013 was the most talented team and deep team they had but turnovers and injuries killed them from being the 11-12 win they truly are. Hanson to Akers cost them 2 games too.

You can have 2 years of bad luck in a row. And the Lions sure did. 3 out of 4 years with the Stafford injury. Notice 2011 the weapons stayed healthy (all of them but Best) and the Lions made the playoffs. Secondary was top 5 too until decimated by injuries in the last 6. Wright and Smith were gamblers though but the gambling helped.

Young,Taylor and Bell are good depth. You can't deny that. Those 2 games they did not show up. Young/Taylor/Bell played plenty of other snaps and did well in other games. Unfortuantely when it was just them, they failed on that particular day. One game does not make a season.

And if you don't like Young or Idonije hughes, no worries they are gone. Bears depth "problem" now.

The starters Ansah/Jones are back and Taylor year 2 should be better than rookie Taylor. Can Tapp do as good or better than Idonije, sure he can.

Bell you'll just have to "deal with" as depth behind Bush.

As far as Carey and Gomes. Gomes played because Carey had to play nickel because Slay was sucking as a rookie. Carey played well the week before agains the Bears at nickel.

2 years? That's it? I don't know how old you are but we've had many more than 2 bad years. Most of the past 57 years have been bad. You can't blame that on bad luck and injuries..

As an organization we suck..

3 of 4 years under Mayhew bad luck. 2009 was a rebuild from Millen. 2010 was still part rebuild. I agree they sucked under Millen, 1990s were solid (6 playoffs in 10 years) but had no QB so couldn't win in the playoffs in a strong NFC and they sucked in the 70s/80s(other than Sims years).

I only care about the Mayhew years because Mayhew is a good GM. Anything prior has noting to do with 2014.

Bell is a good change of pace back for Bush. But the fact all our "stars" contributed big time to turnovers in critical stages of games is not a good sign. Stafford, Bush, Bell and CJ all portrayed stardom horribly in 2013. Stafford the entire 2nd half of the year. Bush had drop and fumble issues. Bell the same. CJ had big drops in big moments of games.

The dline depth blows. Both at DT and DE. The starters at DE are mediocre at best....the back ups are worse than that.
