Stafford is playing pretty good this year. Right now he is probably top 10 in the league.

2nd in tds, 6th in qb rating and 5th in ypa with no run game

Played like this in 2018 too before all hia weapons died and he had worse tight ends and a bad back

2018 final 8 is the anomaly since mid 2015
 
Stafford has been very good. Top 5-6 this season by almost all metrics. Finally getting some well deserved attention.

Unfortunate the defense has been so bad.
 
And Stafford has no running game to support him either it’s a damn shame this franchise is such a fucking joke

Stafford just averaged 312.4 passing yards in the first half of the season.
That leads the league. And he?s done it while playing the most efficient football of his career, with a passer rating of 106.0. That?s top five in the league, along with his 19 touchdown passes (second) and 8.6 yards per attempt (fourth).
With 2,499 yards at the season?s halfway point, Stafford is just a hair off-pace for his first 5,000-yard season since 2011 -- and he?s done it with a QB rating that is nearly 10 points higher (106.0 to 97.2).

Detroit Lions head coach Matt Patricia has not given any indication as to when the team will get the services of quarterback Matthew Stafford back again after the veteran passer suffered a back injury against the Chicago Bears. Choosing to keep his medical information private, Patricia has simply called his situation both day-to-day and week-to-week.

However, ESPN?s Adam Schefter provided a little more clarity on Sunday morning.

?Doctors recently told Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford that the fractured bones in his back are a six-week injury,? Schefter reported.

However, the ESPN reporter noted that Stafford may not be sidelined that entire time, simply that the severity of his injury typically takes six weeks to recover.

NFL Network?s Ian Rapoport provided even more detail on the nature of the injury.
?My report on #Lions QB Matthew Stafford, who could be out as much as 6 weeks because of tiny, non-displaced fractures in the upper thoracic spine,? Rapoport tweeted Sunday morning.

This appears to be a different injury than what many speculated was a transverse fracture in his back, which is the injury Stafford played through last year and was speculated to only sideline him for a few games this season.

Thought Stafford was awesome in this offense. The biggest improvement for me was his avg air yards...him and bevell were pushing the ball down the field and shit was open. Was refreshing to see. Im gonna do a 180 on this one and say if theres 3 guys on this team making too much money (slay and wagner) then Stafford is the guy you keep. Its solely based on his production this year when healthy and the mere fact we have way too many other holes to address early in the draft to worry about a 1st rd qb to replace him. Let him retire here...him and his family are an important part of the community.

I think there are basically a few ways to win a SB. One is to have an elite QB that can carry a team. The second is to have a QB on a rookie contract and being able to build a team around him because the team has more cap space. The Lions don't have a QB under a rookie contract and don't have an elite QB. They could win with Matt IF they hit HRs with 3-5 draft picks every year. Unfortunately, the Lions drafts are a lot like the Tigers baseball team...a lot of strikeouts and very few HRs.

Bottom line, if Matt plays another 8 years for the Lions, it will most likely be another 8 years with no playoff wins.
