They will convert a majority of his 16' base pay to a signing bonus
Even so, restructuring will still add more money to some of his high cap numbers in the later years.

Oh and CJ will turn 34 a month into his currently scheduled last season with the Lions.
PFF did a study on WR age

Sharp decline at 35+, we'll see how CJ fairs.... Concerned about his recent injuries
Here is the problem with CJ. His cap number will be $24M next year. The Lions will be tempted to re-structure but that will probably be a long term mistake. I would like to see them leave it alone and give them a good option to cut him prior to the 2017 season. That would save them $16.5M and only $5.5M in dead $$
As I mentioned, they'll probably restructure then cut him, screwing themselves in the process... Seems like a typical Lions move.

Other teams will have plenty of cap space too in 2016. Rising caps will likely lead to higher contract values, I'm concerned that keeping around players with expiring rookie contracts will not be so easy.

Some Lion's cap hits over the next 2 years
CJ
2015 $20.5M
2016 $24M
Staffford
2015 $17.7M
2016 $22.5M
$46.5M for CJ and Staff in 2016? I'll assume the cap goes up to $150 for 2016, that means those 2 will account for very close to 1/3 of the available cap space in 2016.
Lions only have 105 committed including those 2 big contacts. 11 million for 13 draft picks. Another 3 million to get to the top 51. Another 1.8 for the top 53 and PS. Plenty of room.
We could have close to 30 million or over 30 million in space next year.
I think I missed the part there where we re-sign all our FAs for vet min or something.
Don't they have several contracts up for renewal? Or due to fact they no longer have anyone from 2010 and 2011 drafts maybe they don't. Lol
Levy and Ansah aren't going to be cheap. I don't expect the Lions to keep them both.
We will have almost 30 million in cap space. Levy and Ansah won't take up anywhere close to 30 million. Especially in year 1 of the deal. And with the top 51, alot will be back very cheap.
We can 5th year option Reiff too. Leaving just Levy.
Lions are in great cap shape.
