Mortensen reporting Suh to Dolphins

I don't blame him one bit for taking more money. If I were him I would go to Miami too...hell, even if the money was the same I would go to Miami because 1) FL has no state income tax and 2) I would much rather spend Sept-Jan in Maimi vs. Detroit.

I don't wish Suh good luck...not because he left Detroit but because I never liked him or respected him because he is a dirty player.

Different opinions I guess, I like Suh because of his talent, consistency, and hard work...three things you want in every player. I didn't like his extracurricular activities on the field and apparent disregard for any consequences, but I also don't put as much weight into that. What WILL piss me off is if he cleans up his act on a team he wants to play for, that shows me he only had a douchebag mentality because he didn't like his situation, which ultimately hurt the Lions.

This is all irrelevant though, because I won't be paying attention and I really don't care what he does from this point forward.

I'll say the same thing I do about every Detroit athlete (or any athlete for that matter). He has no reason to stay loyal to the Lions and there's no reason why he should take less money to stay in Detroit. Loyalty (which may or may not include taking less money) should always be seen as a bonus, not an expectation.

Funny we initially thought hed go somewhere to build his brand like Dallas or new York. In tge end he chooses mia for a ton of money that he will have 0 brand because no one in fla gives a shit about football.

Exactly. You got nothing.

And a worse team too. Enjoy 7-8 wins, Suh!!!

Sort of unrelated.

Couldn't stand being a fan of a team like Miami these days. One of those hopelessly mediocre franchises of the last decade or so, same for teams like Tennessee, Cincinnati, San Diego, Dallas to an extent (and probably a few more). They're always sort of in the hunt every year...a playoff possibility until the last 2 weeks usually, they may get in but they'll fail to do anything significant and they never seem to get over the hump. Never great or terrible. Just a giant tease every year.

At least when the Lions suck, we know they suck...we usually don't have to wait until week 16 to find out. It's why I'm hoping the Lions either become good and stay good or peak (hopefully with a SB!) and hit bottom again.

Unless NFL moves to 18 game schedule, at least we won't have to face Miami/Suh until 2018.

Might not be in Miami at that time. Gets paid a ton in those first 3 years.

Depends how the contract is structured. With Miami's relatively small amount of cap space in 2015 I would assume this includes a large signing bonus and possibly option bonuses. That could tie them to Suh for close to 5 years.

I would be shocked if he was gone after three, but without knowing the details I suppose it is possible.

"Do you know how many of those guys left at the end of their rookie contracts for a new team in free agency? Zero. The ones who did depart their original franchise before spending at least 10 years with their original team were forced to retire because of injuries (like Tony Boselli and Terrell Davis) or traded for a first-round pick (like Darrelle Revis and Richard Seymour). When you get one of these players, you generally hold on to them at any cost until they either break down or retire, and then you put them in your team’s Hall of Fame."

None of them got paid 19 per. We offered 17 per. More than fair. Detroit needs to not be a terrible city.

If Fairley goes, that's TWO ENTIRE draft classes since 2010 that are gone.

I am a little conflicted on Suh.

On one hand you have a dominant player that we are going to let walk away for 2 million a year. Thats less than 2% of the cap this year. I understand we already have 2 huge contrancts on offense (Stafford and Johnson) which brings me to the fact we have all that money tied up in 2 players on offense and our offense ranked near the bottom of the league in so many stats.

We are letting a guy go that helped us have one of the best defenses in the league last year.

but $19M is 13% of the cap.

That said...in the upcoming season he is still counting for about 6.5% of the Lions cap...so he is really still part of the team!!

Fair point. But I think it was a matter of timing. If this was Calvin or Stafford and Suh was tied up long term, it would have been one of them.

I'm interested to see how Stafford's situation plays out. If he is subpar this year, he could be released with a savings of 11.5 million in '16. He would still count 5.5 million against the '17 cap, but he's due 22 million in salary that year too.

Calvin will be 30 in September, and hasn't played in all 16 games in two years. As a result, his production is down. He has four years left on his deal including this year. Obviously he is a Lion this year, and probably for the next few. But next season he has a cap number of 24 million, and about 11 million could be saved by cutting him. That probably won't happen. But if they don't restructure him (and I hope they don't) he would probably be cut prior to the 2017 season. 32 years old, 21.358 million against the cap and 16.5 million saved by cutting him. He would still have a 3.5 million dead number on 2018, but that is as opposed to a 17 million cap number I wouldn't be surprised to see this.

If management decides to blow it up, the "big three" could all be elsewhere within a few years from now. I love #81 and I like #9 better than most. But not for what they are making. Stafford is paid like he's Brady or Peyton or Rodgers. And he's. just. not. Calvin is my favorite player, but if these nagging injuries keep up, he will be cap suicide in another year or two.

Stephen A. Smith going off about how Stafford didn't restructure his deal so the Lions could resign Suh. Doesn't this goof realize this is what got the Lions into the situation they're in? No more restructuring contracts for God's sake.

I don't believe at all they offered Suh 17 a year. It's all BS. Why wait until he's gone to offer that? If they offered it before he would have taken it.

Stephan A. Smith is a racist P.O.S! I hear him screaming on Mad Dog radio and it always has to do with some kind of race horseshit. Last week it was Dez Bryant. Today he was screaming about how Philly traded McCoy for a white guy & how they got rid of Maclin but kept Riley Cooper. I can't stand that guy!

Well hey, heard earlier on the radio that they signed Scott Mitchell before Barry. Really have the priorities right.
