MSU Football recruiting

At that level, Estime is impossible to tackle for high school kids, he's a freight train. I know Donovan Edwards (near 5 star RB from West Bloomfield) is a long shot for MSU, he wants to go to OSU, but Estime's film is on a different level from Edwards. Maybe that just means Edwards is way overrated, but I think Estime will be the best back we've brought in since Le'Veon Bell.

I hope the kid is great, but this post reads a lot like the uofm board when Weber decommitted and to go to OSU.

I'm afraid it will all mean little if we don't start bringing in or developing guys that can improve our fortunes at the line of scrimmage. Anyone who plans to have success running behind a typical MSU o-line, needs next if not next, next level talent.

Pretty successful signing day yesterday. Flipped a top 150 LB from USC for our big score of the day.

Audric Estime is flipping to ND, bummer. IMO, Audric is the best RB in the country bar none.

Geno Vandenmark signing later. Same with Rayshaun Benny who planned to sign late always.

Bonus. Too a transfer from Anthony Russo QB from Temple. He's put up some stats, is big, and has a huge arm, throws a lot of picks though. Still brings some talent to the QB room to compete.

Bigger Bonus. Looks like Auburn RB, Harold Joiner is transferring to MSU. He's huge at 6-3, 230 lbs, but ran a laser times 4.34 forty in high school. Joiner was a 4 star recruit out of high school, the number 5 RB and a top 150 player. He'll probably only be around for a year or two, but he's probably instantly the most talented player on the roster. Takes the sting away from losing Estime to ND.

Mike Farrell of Rivals on former 5-star LB and USC transfer, Palaie Gaoteote - "it's likely to be Michigan State, with his brother"

High School recruiting is going slow, but things are going to change dramatically in June when we can finally get kids on campus for the first time. Just added the top safety on our board from Georgia powerhouse Buford HS yesterday.

The transfer portal has been amazing so far. Added 4 star Minnesota LB, Itayvion Brown today, 6-4, 235lbs and he'll have 4 years to play at MSU. MSU has added 11 guys. Got another LB from Michigan in Ben Van Sumeren who will be a depth guy. The real prize has yet to announce, but it's close to a done deal, LB from Tennessee Quavarius Crouch is close to transferring to MSU, this was a top 70 recruit and will be an instant impact guy at starting WILL. Added 2 RBs, a hand full of DBs, and an offensive tackle who was on the Outland watch list. Plus the Qb transfer from Temple who will at least provide some competition to start.

And we're not done, probably 4-5 more transfers coming. Definitely have improved the roster talent.

If Crouch is the prize it says more of how horrible we are than his talent. He's not that good. His recruiting was based on him being a rb and he was quickly moved from that and hasn't been much as a lb either.

I thought Palaie Gaoteote was the prize - sounds like Ryan Day is going after him and his cousin plays for the Buckeyes. Sounds like he might have a tough decision - go win 4-6 games in E Lansing or play for a National Championship at OSU with his cousin.

Don't we already have a big QB with a strong arm that throws a lot of picks or is Lombardi graduating?

He transferred

that's right - forgot about that. He's a Husky now. I worked with a bunch of NIU grads in my first job out of college, one of them played QB for them. He graduated just before LeShon Johnson transferred to NIU. Well anyway, thanks to the transfer portal, we still have a QB with size and a strong arm that throws lots of picks.

Purdue freshman, 4 star WR/TE Maliq Carr has entered the transfer Portal and is expected to transfer to Michigan state to play both football and basketball.

This dude was a top 150 recruit with offers from all the big schools, 6-4, 230 lbs and can run.

Tucker is killing it with the transfer portal. Totally remaking this roster.

He was a top 4 TE coming out in high school, but played WR at Purdue. Fantastic pickup. Ran a laser timed 4.69 forty as a high junior at 230 lbs.

Carr made it official today, he is a Spartan. He's 6-5 and 235 lbs right now, says he'll play WR or TE and be fine with either. Coaches see him as that Kyle Pitts type TE who can line up inside or outside.

Quavarius Crouch will not make an announcement on his transfer to MSU, he's expected to enroll in Summer classes at MSU next month and that will be all the announcement he gives.

Portal has strengthened every level of the team. I still think we'll be looking for a pure TE and another safety, maybe even a pass rusher, but it's already been a fantastic transfer season for Tucker.

AJ Duffy spent the whole weekend in East Lansing.

Big recruiting weekend. Tons of guys on campus for the Spring game.

Quavarius Crouch was in the stands wearing a custom made MSU baseball jersey with his name on the back of it. Crouch is going to fit in nicely at the MIKE here taking over for Antjuan Simmons. 6-2, 237 lbs and can fly. Been a really long time since we had an athlete like him at LB.

Alex VanSumeren was here with his Spartan big brother. Clemson is coming on, but I still think MSU is the team to beat for him.

Seems like he's building a team from an "Island of Misfit Toys." It will be interesting to see how it works out - if these guys are legit or if there's a reason they're in the transfer portal or if he can actually develop talent and coach them to win games.

The guys Tucker is bringing in have other major offers and the guys that are leaving are going to the Mac. Let's just call it what it is. He's fixing Dantonio's mailed in last couple recruiting classes.

Another transfer inbound. Not sure who, but rumored to be another big splash.

AJ Duffy committed to Florida State

Yup. He was #1 on our board. Now we will be getting visits from 1a Justin Martyn, 4 star currently committed to Cal. And 1b Katin Houser, 3 star currently committed to Boise State. Both will visit in June.

If they both say no we will take the commitment of 4 star uncommitted QB from CA, Jayden Denegal. He would already be our QB in this class if the staff would take his commitment.

it's not hard to improve on what he's got, the bigger question is by how much. the guys coming from the transfer portal from other schools are transferring for a reason and it's not because they're killing it at the prior school. The guys he's offering out of high school don't have a lot of offers better than MSU (mostly MD, RU, Louisville type kids). The 2021 class is ranked 39th, but not counting 2 star kids it's 3-6 commitments smaller than most top 30 teams AND it's just the first class he's had a full year to recruit as head coach following a horrible season. We'll get a chance to see how good of a coach/player developer he is over the next couple seasons, but the jury is still out.
