My way too early yardage prediction thread

The excuse making is almost scary. I wonder if fans from other fan bases make excuses like this to explain decades of futility?

Decades. Try two seasons with a talented roster. they sucked under Millen. No talent then.

The Lions couldn't have stopped McCoy if it was 80 and sunny. He ran through that secondary like they were made of cheese. And wait for it... He did most his dominating... IN THE SECOND HALF WHEN THE SNOW STOPPED. Weird. Thought the Lions defense was good?

No, the Lions would not have won that game. The reason? Philly is better. They won their division for a reason.

Snow still affected the run game all day. Lions with Bush could have done the same thing but he got hurt in warmups. The defense is at a disadvantrage in snow against speedy backs. Lions in normal condiditions shut down opposing run offenses. Why do you think Ross looked like the best returner in history of the NFL that day.

Passing game and fumbles is affected more during a blizzard and snowfall, you know when the snow is coming down and it's windy. Now you don't know anything about weather. I'll add that to the list of things you don't know about.

Bell is a backup and rarely fumbles. Blizzard caused those. Snowing the most when he fumbled. Waddle was hurt and Bush hurt so hindered run and big play runs like McCoy had. Can't pass in blizzard which is Lions strength.

Lions win this game in normal weather.

yet they couldn't beat the following NON playoff teams in good weather??

AZ
TB
Baltimore
Steelers
Giants
MN

LOL the Steelers game was terrible weather. Windy and rainy.

TB/Balt/Giants were all hot at the time. Turnovers killed them, some very flukey turnovers and miracle FGs.

at Min, Detroit was very injured on O and D.

So what you're getting at is Detroit/Stafford sucked ass in bad weather and good weather.

I love the very injured one. Lions only team in the NFL that has to battle injuries.

Bad weather only affects the Lions. The other team doesn't have to deal with it.

Lions had concentrated injury at DE,CB and WR/TE. Concentrated is worse than "battling some injuries".

Eagles didn't have the ball as much in the blizzard in the first half and didn't have to deal with Reggie Bush/Waddle in the game. They got lucky, Detroit's passing game was taken away by weather and their rushing game was taken away by injury.

Steelers got the lead before the rain picked up. And of couse Ansah, Jones, Quin and Bentley were out making life easier for the Steelers offense.

Oh...I remember that Steelers game now. It was the one where Ben went 29-45 (64.4%), 367 yards and 4TDs. The same game where $tafford only completed 41% of his passes. It must have been windy and raining when the Lions had the ball then the sky cleared and wind stopped for the Steelers!

Yes in the end of the 4th Quarter when Stafford went 0-8 or something like that with 3 drops. That will drop you to 41% pretty quickly. 27 point day with a fake FG mess up. The pick to Calvin worked earlier in the day but not in the heavier rain. And Ross dropped a sure first down on second down leading to that 3rd and long and heave to Calvin. Again context. You need to remember more.

Big Ben didn't have to deal with starting DEs, Quin in the second half or Bentley. Bum knee Delmas couldn't keep up with Brown on a TD.

we should look at that 4th quarter.

Stafford 0-9. One drive ended in an INT and the other a sack

Ben 9-13 with 2 TDs

Rain picked up during the 0-6 Stafford stretch. Several drops.

Big Ben was good early 4th before the rain picked up. He was picking on Carey and Gomes on the 97 yard drive the entire drive. Rain wasn't bad on the double move by Cotchery either.

Should be pass int on defender on Calvin 3rd and 5. Incomplete. Fake FG
Big Ben 97 yard drive before the rain
Then drop, drop, pick on 3rd and 10 when he had to force (play worked earlier)
double move TD
Rain picks up
6 incompletes down 10 points with 2:30 left. One deep bomb to Ogletree was a tremendous throw that actually would given the Lions a chance even down 10, but dropped by Ogletree.

I appreciate all of this banter, makes my day at work go fast.

Thank the lord Detroit plays in a dome, I can't imagine if Stafford actually had to deal with weather outside in the fall during Detroit. Those gusts would destroy him.

Stafford before those last 2 drives filled with rain and drops and must force balls on 3rd down
19/38 362 yards 2 TDs and 0 picks. 100.9 QB Rating

So let me get this straight. The Lions had possessed the ball for a total of 3:47 in the 4th quarter (time of possession). The Steelers possessed the ball for about 11:23 yet the weather was only shitty for the Lions?

He would be a really good QB if the games only lasted 3 quarters.
