Next Lions Coach

I'm not saying he sucks. I'm saying that he doesn't impress me as much as he does everyone else. He's proven nothing to me that he can be the head coach of an NFL team.

McGloin was a decent QB before O'Brien got there and was always overlooked for the other guy for some reason. Hackenberg was a top rated recruit and was viewed as a can't miss by many people. He also has a top WR on his team.

Last year (2012) was a year where the seniors were motivated to play well. They had a reason to play well and win. To prove people wrong. This year, they were in a soft B1G schedule and had a nice win against Wisconsin at the end of the year. Aside from that, the team was inconsistent and played horribly at times. I think OSU beat them by 50.

And don't act like PSU lost a ton of players when they were slapped with their bowl ban. They really didn't. I know they lost Silas Redd and an OL if i remember right? He was still sucking on JoePa's talent that he brought in before and wanted to get out before he was exposed by the lack of talent.

I don't know if he's a good coach. i don't know if he's a bad coach. All I know is that the texans rolled the dice. We'll see how it goes. I'd rather have someone who is proven to be able to win and has a leadership quality about him. I don't see that in O'Brien yet and I don't think this team can handle another coach who is a gamble and an unknown.

name 1 person out there that is proven he can win. Whisenhunt took an average ARI team and went on a miracle run. Then he got fired cause he sucked after that and benched leinhart.

Lovie smith? a defensive coach who lived in mediocrity and the Chicago fan base wanted fired year after year and he somehow lasted several years longer than he should have?

Tom Cable? lmao

I like some of the candidates but none of them have been the model of consistency. Lewand and mayhew keep saying they want a consistently strong franchise....none of the candidates out there have shown they can do that. And only god knows if they can make Stafford a consistent winner.

Obrien deserved a shot.....and the fact tom cables name is being mentioned and we never even got a shot at Obrien....to me its a bad sign.

ps...the new name out there that were interviewing is jim Caldwell. yippee..

We should also remember what conference Obrien won his 15 games in..
Big Ten... Not like it is NFL on the job training...

Not saying I like who they're talking to. I'm saying that O'brien is way overrated. ESPN is propping him up like he's some kind of savior. He's got a good job now, though. A great draft pick, a great defense, some really good offensive pieces.

Mike Zimmer(The Cinnci D-Coordinator I believe?) May not be too bad, I don't know a whole lot about him. But from the list so far the pickings seem rather slim. I see Gruden's name being thrown around a lot, but I never was really impressed with him.

You can pick apart any candidate out there. Almost every one has been fired at least once. Except Cowher and he hasnt coached in 8 years and only Vermiel has won after that long of layoff.

Don't try and get Shaw.. I was wrong... Man did he call a horrible game today...

Lovie has reached agreement with the Bucs so scratch him off the list. Whisenhunt or bust at this point.

I agree their short passing game was working and they kept throwing deep or running up the middle. A play action pass would have worked like a charm

The fourth and two play was brutal and I know Shaw thought he could get a yard late but MSU has been stuffing middles all year.. All the had to do is fake that dive and pitch left and the RB would have had a one one with a CB.. I would take that match-up.

Yes short passing game... Shaw forgot about it..lol

I saw that end of that and thought the same wow that was a horrible call I couldn't believe they tried that even after timeouts...just goes to show ya yes there really are dumber coaches than what the lions just fired. Lol

This is one where I actually agree with the players. I think it'd be stupid to fire him because he's done an amazing job with the O-line this year. I don't think anyone can dispute that.

Agreed. I think any new HC we hire will easily realize that the O-line is all about cohesiveness and chemistry and keep him on for next year.

right now they seem to be interviewing players from teams not in the playoffs, except with cable and seattle

Now I am glad we didnt get Lovie Smith. He just named Rod Marinelli as his DC. Dear god I cant even imagine him back in Detroit.
