Next Lions Coach

Doesn't hurt to talk to as many candidates as possible. Maybe they're trying to find out what he did wrong so they can avoid it? Just trying to delude myself into believing this organization isn't completely inept.

Like a token dumb guy?

I may be forced to move to another state just so I can get some new hometown sports teams. All the names I heard at first were all good signs. Now in day 2 its same ole WTF Lions. Now is not the time to get creative.

To be completely honest though, I don't really care who they talk to....just who they hire.

I think Arizona could be an up and comer..nice place to live.

As a resident of NE Ohio, I can tell you this isn't the place to move. Our Detroit teams are all better than Cleveland's.

He'll be gone in less than 3 years. Overrated.

THANK YOU!!! So glad to see another person shares this view. He proved nothing at PSU other than a willingness to jump ship as fast as possible. So glad Lions didn't get him.

if 15-9 at a school that got everything but the death penalty doesn't impress you.....then the fact he brought that football program back to life ATLEAST should impress you.....that school was dead in the water and he didn't have to stay. And if you don't want to believe he had anything to do with Tom Brady being successful then you can look to Mcgloin of all people started for the raiders this year and hackenburg had a great year on an average at best team. He deserved a head coaching job and he would have been the exact opposite of linehan....who did nothing but suck on Stafford throughout his tenure here.

Sorry just not a big fan...I just prefer others over him... Sure he deserves a job but he left after two seasons.. What the hell does that say about him..
After all he kept saying is he wanted to be at PSU...My guess is he sees a celling at PSU and just decided to move on for more money in the NFL.. I am sure he will be fine at Houston but he thinks Houston is a better job then Detroit which bothers me if he is such a offensive guru.
Seems like he would want the Lions job..

not if he feels about Stafford the same as a lot of ppl on this board do. As a first time coach would you want the chance to build a team with "your guy" at qb, plus you get a sense of lenciancy for overtaking a 2 win team with no qb. If he comes here hes expected to win now with a guy maybe he thinks sucks. Most people im assuming wouldn't find that very appealing. Then throw into the mix you could be in a weak division like Houston or a division with Arod....welp....I cant blame him for not wanting to come here over Houston.

Most ready team to win now....isn't necessarily always the best option. I agree we are the most ready team to win now....but ive stated before Cleveland is probably a more appealing job. Houston is close behind them.

I'm not saying he sucks. I'm saying that he doesn't impress me as much as he does everyone else. He's proven nothing to me that he can be the head coach of an NFL team.

McGloin was a decent QB before O'Brien got there and was always overlooked for the other guy for some reason. Hackenberg was a top rated recruit and was viewed as a can't miss by many people. He also has a top WR on his team.

Last year (2012) was a year where the seniors were motivated to play well. They had a reason to play well and win. To prove people wrong. This year, they were in a soft B1G schedule and had a nice win against Wisconsin at the end of the year. Aside from that, the team was inconsistent and played horribly at times. I think OSU beat them by 50.

And don't act like PSU lost a ton of players when they were slapped with their bowl ban. They really didn't. I know they lost Silas Redd and an OL if i remember right? He was still sucking on JoePa's talent that he brought in before and wanted to get out before he was exposed by the lack of talent.

I don't know if he's a good coach. i don't know if he's a bad coach. All I know is that the texans rolled the dice. We'll see how it goes. I'd rather have someone who is proven to be able to win and has a leadership quality about him. I don't see that in O'Brien yet and I don't think this team can handle another coach who is a gamble and an unknown.
