NFC Playoff Thread

With the way they've turned it over lately, I still wonder if it's such a sure thing they even make the playoffs. Obviously injuries to Rodgers and Cutler has given this team a good opportunity, but with this franchise anything is possible.

It's one thing to cough up the ball and still beat a mediocre Dallas team and an awful Packers team (without Rodgers, they're awful), good luck winning that way against SF or Carolina.

Let's hope it's all a "fluke".

sometimes, dude, all you need is a little faith

They are earning winning division games. They lose to Flynn which happened in their best previous year and they swept bears. If they drop any of those 3 they aren't in drivers seat. Keep it going at philly. 2-2 at worst

Seattle clinches a playoff berth with the win

Doesn't get any easier for NO as they play Carolina next week (twice in the next three weeks)

Seattle is one good football team. And at home, its almost impossible to beat them. This is why it frustrates me to no-end. Teams that were bad and got quickly "quick". Seattle and KC to name a couple. Why we stammer in mediocrity.

Nonetheless, outside of Dallas (if they make it), not sure we can beat anyone else.

Seattle's home record is rather impressive, outside of a couple games, they've been killing teams

So far this season
Week 2 (SF): W 29-3
Week 3 (Jax): W 45-17
Week 6 (Ten): W 20-13
Week 9 (TB): W 27-24 OT
Week 11 (Min): W 41-20
Week 13 (NO): W 34-7

Seattle PPG @ Home: 32.7
Seattle Points Allowed @ Home: 14
Average Winning Margin: 18.7

Obviously not the best teams every week, but they easily manhandled SF and NO, two teams likely to make the playoffs.

We beat Seattle last year. Caroll has been there four years same with their GM. They sucked first 2. Weren't screwed by the old CBA so can get free agents like former Lion Cliff Avril for example to be their leading pass rusher. Plus they will have alot of contracts to re-up in the next few years. Wilson was a good find in Round 3 thanks to height. And they took an injury risk on Michael Bennett. That paid off for them.

Last year was last year. Are you still going to use the old CBA as an excuse? Just more excuses..Seattle at home is close to unstoppable.

Seattle has alot of cap space and were able to get their top 2 pass rushers in free agency. It's cool the Lions drafted Ansah and Taylor so they are better off since Avril blows against the run still. A former Lion nonetheless.

The point is, it wasn't quick and it wasn't until they had good QB play. Just like the Lions starting in 2011 and now again in 2013. Millen mess was bigger than what Caroll/Schneider inherited too.

If the old CBA still has an effect, it can be used as a valid reason. But you are right. Lewand and Mayhew were masterminds and were able to restrucutre and get Quin, Jones, Bush and Mathis still in free agency. 2012 is really where it affected them plus Backus, Hill, Avril and Tulloch among others with expiring contracts needing re-signed.

Detroit could win in Seattle if they control the turnovers.. They have the balanced offense with a major weapon to trump Sherman and the run defense for Lynch.

I'll give you one thing, there wasn't a bigger mess than Millen. But it's been 5 years and I'd probably be more happy if we gradually increased our win totals, 2 - 4 - 6 - 9 - 11 but when you win 10, after a 6-2 start, then win 4, after losing the last 8 followed by a 7-5 season it's a little oft-putting. I was hoping to be better at this point..

They were 7-5 in 2011 and won 3 in a row. We'll see how they respond. I'll take playoffs 2 out of every 3 years.

Not unless they win. They can make the playoffs the next 100 years but of they don't win it doesn't mean anything.

Well let them play the 2013 playoff game. How about that? Assuming they will lose is just dumb.

Seattle beat the Redskins with a banged up RG3 so far. Lions just did that this season. Whoopity do. Then proceeded to lose at a powerhouse NFC South team (see Lions 2011).

2010 they did beat the Saints getting in with a 7-9 record. Got a nice home game and won against the Saints awful D.

Seattle could lose this year in the divisional game. You are assuming things and assuming it ends badly for Detroit and great for Seattle based on regular season games right now.

I'm not assuming anything. But saying you'll be happy about 2 playoffs every 3 years in fine for you but not me. I need a win, and then 2 etc.

You could get one. You act like they have no chance for a playoff win. They are on the cusp of getting there again.

I'm not acting like anyone. Detroit is not a powerhouse. Sure they could win a playoff game but its a long shot. I hope they do win but the playoffs alone isn't success, not when your lone playoff win in 56 years was in 1991, its a bit unsettling.

This team has nothing to do with Lions prior history.

And it's not a long shot. Change your attitude. This team can beat Seattle or San Fran or Carolina.

Because you said so, yeah. I'm assuming you're young and can't fathom what's it's been like for this organization. Yeah after year, bad after bad, no playoff win after no playoff win.
