Ngata may not be ready for week 1

right...but you are not locked into next year. They have an out with no salary cap implications and draft pick compensation if they choose not to sign him.

You want to be locked into next year and have the option for 2017 too. Plus the cap number would be about 3.5 million lower than the franchise tag.

no, I don't

It's better cap wise for 2015 and 2016 to lock him in now. Yes you do. You just need to realize you do. It's not even a leap of faith. Ngata is clearly a stud player in a 3-4 or 4-3. 4-3 is easier for him.

You think you know what you are talking about but you don't realize that you actually have no clue. It is a leap of faith. Ngata has not played in a 4-3. If it is easier for a NT to play in a 3-4 why don't teams sign 3-4 NT's out of college to play a 4-3 DT? If that were the case, the good 3-4 NTs would come off the board before the good 4-3 DTs. That doesn't happen. Know why...because the teams don't know if it will translate. Just like teams don't sign 3-4 NTs in FA to play 4-3 DTs. The Lions have the opportunity to see what happens. That is the smart move...not signing him to an extension before he plays a down as a 4-3 DT.

It is easier. Less gaps to worry about. Less double teams with a DT next to you. Less need for you to occupy more blockers. 4-3 is clearly easier. You need to get a clue dalton.

Caldwell has said he expects Ngata to be set for the opener, but dialed down some of the optimism recently. Ngata is switching from a read-and-react role in the Ravens 3-4 defense to an attacking role in the Lions 4-3 front.

Prudence is one thing, and it makes sense. Patience is another, and Ngata and the coaches have to be getting itchy.

Caldwell was an assistant in Baltimore for two seasons with Ngata, and Austin was there as the secondary coach. Familiarity with the man isn't an issue. Familiarity with the system is the concern.

Why didn't you address the drafting and FA issues I brought up? Because I am right.

For the first nine years of his NFL career, Ngata played in a 3-4 scheme in which he was asked to occupy blockers, diagnose plays and stuff the run.

The Detroit Lions want Ngata to play more upfield, splitting double teams and attacking quarterbacks. And while the five-time Pro Bowler is capable, sometimes he finds himself reverting to old form.

"It's definitely difficult," Ngata said of the transition

Stop it! It is a seamless transition! It happens every year. The only one who knows it is LKP! You, me, the coaching staff and Ngata don't have a clue!

It is easier to play 4-3. That was day 1. Ngata can penetrate and worry about one gap instead of two. He's an all pro. Sign him long term. They are negotiating right now.

All I care about is if his legs and body will hold up this season.. He has plenty of ability to help this defense no matter what the scheme is..

Hmm let's see. LKP says easy transition. The professional who actually plays says it's not easy. Where to side...

right. And I can't remember a team taking a 3-4 NT out of college to play in a 4-3 because it is an easy transition and will be easier to play DT in a 4-3.

Mayhew said Stafford was outstanding. Where to side?

No he said overall outstanding. I didn't leave anything out.

Provide the quotes/link. Here is the only time I heard outstanding:

"I thought it was an outstanding season for him," Mayhew said.

"This year was an outstanding season for him, in my opinion. It's interesting that when in 2012 and 2013 he's throwing for a lot of yards, and people are saying, 'Well, the real stat that matters for a quarterback is winning football games.' Then this year, we win a lot of games and people are unhappy with the stats, you know?'"

haha...like a retard spelling cat correctly!

It's funny how he added "for him" and later IMO. Even Mayhew has doubts.
