Octavio Dotel

Danny Knobler tweeted this morning that the first year is for $3 million. thats a price i think i can live with.

someone just needs to staple dotel and coke's L/R splits to leyland's face so he uses them correctly. when in doubt, go ahead and use AlAl instead! perry can rot in toledo for all i care.

KalineCountry[/color]]Dotel is one of the few free agent Middle relievers who had an acceptable shutdown/meltdown ratio last year: 2.5 (15/6). Anything over 2 is pretty good.

Do tell...

Signing of reliever Octavio Dotel might complete off-season tune-up for Detroit Tigers

If so, color me underwhelmed and very disappointed..Dotel, Lard, and resigning Ramon "might" be enough to contend, if not win the division in the milquetoast ALCD, but almost certainly puts them @ a competitive disadvantage, esp. on O & D IF the Tigers were to clinch a postseason berth in '12.

No LH SP, but that still could be remedied prior to the trade deadline, but likely far less costly in terms of players necesary to complete said trade, if so, during this current off-season.

I don't expect a 45 degree turnaround @ the leadoff spot by Jackson. much less a 180 degree, but if he does, then I will be truly shocked.

I don't like (better still despise) who the Tigers will likely use in a platoon @ 2B and 3B at all with Inge and perhaps Worth "officially" holding down those positions @ the start of next season.

The Tigers defense/offense may have as many holes as a chunk of swiss-cheese, esp on summer Sunday in June afternoons on the road @ skedded NL team.

Their OF defense in the corners could be termed at best suspect...with Boesch, Raburn, Young, and Don Freaking Kelly penciled there.

The team is obviously going to be even less deep everywhere than it was last season, with the lone exception of their bullpen. A few or maybe more of long stints on the DL by a couple of their key players in their SP roto and/or in the lineup, and they are gonna be in some deep shit. It is NOT a given that Peralta, VMart, OR Avila will be able to replicate their '11 performances @ the plate, and at least one may even regress.

Well...the FA market is pretty weak at the positions of need. The Tigers will still be the favorite to win the AL central next season. This may be the plan....sit tight in the offseason and wait until mid season and get better players from non-contending teams than those that are available now.

If we get no one I bet those people who didn't want Reyes will be begging for him. Raburn, yeah. Inge, yeah. Santiago, yeah. Kelly, yeah. Dirks, yeah. Young, yeah. Laird, yeah. So excited.

I feel better about this roster than what they had going into last season.

But we still have many holes on offense. And we're hoping Peralta and Avila continue to hit. We need offensive players.

I think Peralta will fall off a little. Avila should be solid. They will get more production from the LF (offensively) than they did last year with DY. Jackson needs to step up.

They were 4th in runs last year....I don't see any reason why they shouldn't be in the top 10 again next year.

Aj needs to step up, we have Inge/Kelly at 3rd :) and Santiago/Raburn at 2nd :) and DY/Raburn in left, are you fkn kidding me? We need offense.

In case you didn't get that, we can't have 4 holes in the lineup each game. And hopefully BB will continue to hit. So if any drop off we're totally screwed.

I know we want more offense....but that is virtually the same lineup that was 4th in runs scored last year. Every team has holes.

did you watch the playoffs? our lineup sucks when they face any sort of good pitching. Rangers BP shut us down....Cards ripped them. We cant hit good pitching.

Done already? what happened to all the Yoenis talk?

If we didn't have fister, DY coming up big in games and a shitty division we wouldn't have won jack. If you're happy with the guys so be it. Take Peralta down a notch and figure Mart comes down a tad and we're screwed. Okay, we won the division now lets win a WS. We don't have the pieces to win. Maybe JV can win another MVP.

I don't know if you read what I origianally posted. This is what I said:

Again...this team has enough to win the central. There will be more (and better) players available at or before the trade deadline than are available now. Nothing wrong with that plan.
