Odell Beckham Jr. at 10?

Luck, Foles, Kapernick, and Wilson have much better upside, technique, and intelligence than Stafford. All of them are a hell of a lot smaller cap hit as well. Would I want Savage over Stafford? Why not? Neither one has done any thing and Savage is a miniscule cap hit comparatively. This team is not going to make the playoffs anyway, so why not stop the bleeding now if someone is willing to take on Stafford's cap hit? Savage is going to be a sleeper pick. Who ever gets him has something to work with and can feel comfortable running him out there in a short period of time.

Thus the problem. Plus if Mayhew likes and wants him well that's basically the end of the story. I'm not sure how many QB get traded with big cap numbers..I'm curious what the numbers were on Cutler when he was traded..?

$tafford, really? Honestly I'd trade a bag of jelly beans for him.

Man...I don't know...maybe I'm not reading in between the lines of my own posts enough, but I'm pretty sure my post was about Manziel and made no mention of Stafford......

I do think we will draft a QB in the draft. I also think there will be some good QB's that slide to the 4th rd where we have multiple picks.

That's false. Stafford obviously played very poorly the 2nd half of 2013 and had a bad 2012 season. But in 2011 he threw for 41 TDs with only 16 interceptions and a 63.5 completion % while leading his team to the playoffs. That is something. He's shown he's capable of playing very well in the NFL.

Plus, Savage is already 24 (only 2 years younger than Stafford). He's had one decent year playing in college, but hadn't played since 2010 before that because he transferred. Playing Savage instead of Stafford guarantees at least 2 more bad seasons. I don't understand why you guys have given up on Stafford. The front office has done a pretty good job this offseason building around him (hopefully they draft a WR too), so let's see how he does in 2014. If he plays poorly, then let whatever QB we draft in round 4 this year start. But at least give him a chance unless you want to guarantee several more losing seasons right now.

No you didn't I was just responding to the fact I'd take a bag of jelly beans.

Devils advocate, I remember when Scott Mitchell had that one year.

It's possible, but I think Stafford is better than Mitchell for several reasons.
1. The Lions were Mitchell's 2nd team, Stafford was drafted #1 overall by the Lions.
2. Even during Mitchell's "great" year he had a 59.3 completion %, while Stafford's best completion % was 63.5.

All I'm saying is I don't understand why anyone would want the Lions to start a different QB this year. The front office has built around him this offseason, so give him a chance. Hopefully we'll draft a QB in round 4 and let him develop. That way if Stafford plays poorly in 2014, then we can get rid of him and start another guy. But at least see what he can do with what he's been given now.

I'm not sure I want to either but everything this year is based on our knucklehead QB. We get a bunch of coaches who are supposedly QB gurus. We sign a WR, resign a TE possibly trading up for a WR or taking a TE..when will it be the defenses turn ?

The defense is the one that needs all the work. And if $tafford fails we're in need of a new QB plus our defense will still have holes.

And now you understand why mayhew sucks donkey balls.

Unless we trade up for Watkins (which I find doubtful unless he drops to at least #4), I think we'll get 2 defensive players with our top 3 picks. Especially in a draft this deep, isn't that addressing the defense? Also, last year we took defensive players with our top 2 picks (Ansah and Slay), plus got Devin Taylor in the 4th round. So it's not like Mayhew has completely ignored the defense. I'm not saying they're currently great, but I think there is hope for the future.

When will it be the defenses turn? Three of last four first round picks were defense. Suh, fairley, reiff, Ansah. Three secondary players in round two/three the last four years as well. Plus levy, Houston, tulloch, jones,Quin among others

You people are so full of blind dumb misinformed hatred bullshit it's beyond ridiculous at this point.

Stafford throws 30 plus tds and 12 or less ints with the qb gurus and HEALTHY weapons and you all shut the fuck up

That's why they drafted players like Suh, Ansah, Fairley and a shitload of young defensive guys. Went out and signed D guys in FA. You're beyond clueless...

actually he spent most of his money in FA on the O. he got an over the hill safety that cant cover worth a lick and might be replaced in the draft and a 3rd string DE in FA for the defense.

yes we know hes drafted some defense....if all he drafted was offensive players hed be the worst gm of all time. thanks for reminding all of us he drafted suh lol....so dumb...

Well, Stafford is not going to be a 3 to 1 TD/INT QB with the weapons so WE will still have to put up with your bad luck scenarios and ludicrous justification's.

In Mayhews time as general manager their top 3 rounds of picks go as this. 9 offensive players to 8 defensive. I think it's a no brainer for the lions to make this offense explosive. Our success goes as our quarterbacks success goes. Which means it's imperative kris durhams are not your number two options for most of the year. Now you can't erase past draft mistakes like jahvid and broyles. Both players looked capable sadly but injuries have destroyed them. But that doesn't mean you suddenly can't grab that player anymore. If we go wr, or te then all that means is that we had better select the right player this time.

and with that being said, Mayhew will more than likely get it right on Thursday. It's the other rounds that have to be spot on. There are too many holes and not enough cap room. I hope he hits it out of the park but history has shown its a difficult thing to master.

Mayhew has not done horrible. Lewand has put him in a no win situation.
