T.J. Hockenson expected to be Week 1 starter

Overall id say we lost value in the early rounds with reaches while at the same time filling a need (TE/ILB). Then we gained value in the later rounds with Bryant and Oruwariye. Overall id give it a solid B-. I was hoping for impact players on defense in this draft...i dont think we got any. Tavaii will be a solid thumper in the middle...not much else. Harris wont even play. Bryant will be a quality back up. The only hope for an impact in this draft will be Hockenson.

I'm starting to think if we drafted Benzschawel in the 2nd and Pope in the 6th, most of the "experts" would be giving us an A- / B+. It's hilarious to see the Raiders receive an F and an A by the first 2 guys that supposedly know what they are talking about.

It's impossible to say with certainty but I don't think you're wrong. I'm listening to the radio and they're roasting this draft for not taking an OL...before even knowing who makes the team. Acting like undrafted free agents don't exist. I would love to see the alternate universe where what you said happened.

I feel like there's no disagreement with the players we picked, just where we picked them. Like the pundits agree these guys are good picks... but "we don't like how they did it".

Well, fuck em.

It's hard to become an NFL productive player. With that said I don't have any problems with any player and/or where they were picked. Except at 8. Not the player but the spot. And it's a horrible spot for a TE. He needs to be big time 1st year at the 8th spot. Not gradually come into his own and the first 2-3 years are a waste.

Pride Of Detroit Lions PODcast at the NFL Draft: Narratives, Nashville and nose tackles. 71 minutes.
Grading the Lions draft haul and analyzing each round.

The 2019 NFL Draft is packing up, and PODcast is on the scene to rummage through the debris and fitting together a picture. That picture, you might wonder?but do not wonder long, for we shall tell you!?is one of a lion, Detroit Lion, whatever and wherever we were going with this half-lucid introduction.

It?s PODcast, and it?s time to review the draft in full.

With the first picks going to T.J. Hockenson and Jahlani Tavai, it?s left some fans hopeful for the future and others with deep reservations about general manager Bob Quinn. Jeremy and I sit down to discuss how the narratives and realities intertwine on this issue. Then, we have good stompy draft experts on to break down everything else that happened over the weekend.

This week on the PODcast:
Chris and Jeremy discuss the good times in Nashville and the new roaming party of the NFL Draft.

Narratives emerge for the Detroit Lions - the duo break down how the early rounds created differing perceptions of the draft, and the reservations and beliefs in both sides of a dichotomy of fans.

T.J. Hockenson talk.

Would it be seen as a successful draft if we simply reversed the drafted positions of Amani Oruwariye and Tavai?

Brett Whitefield and Alex Reno join Jeremy to discuss each round in detail.
Alex is dangerously close to becoming a co-host again.

Everyone gets the professional treatment.

Day 3 discussions, and even some UDFA talk to round out the podcast.

I think the Lions would have been better off taking Devon Bush and Greedy Williams with their first 2 picks.

Greedy slipped for a reason. Bad attitude, lazy, becomes disinterested at times, refused to talk to certain teams at the Combine too and can't tackle to save his life.
Give me the CB out of Penn State all day over him. A fucking gem of a pick that will probably win the #2 job next to Slay.

I can honestly say I don't know too much about any of these guys outside of what I read or hear. Williams was the 1st or 2nd rated CB by most "experts". From what I have read, I don't think there were any true stud CBs out there. Amani could end up being a fine CB.

Detroit Lions 2019 NFL Draft class ranked 5th by The Athletic.
At least one prominent draft analyst was high on Detroit?s 2019 class.
Earlier in the day, we noted that pulling in draft grades from 13 prominent NFL analysts resulted in the Detroit Lions? 2019 draft class ranking in the bottom 10 in the NFL. Interestingly, the Lions didn?t get a grade above a B+ nor a grade below a C-.

However, there?s at least one voice out there that believes the Lions nailed this draft. Dane Brugler of The Athletic power ranked all 32 draft classes and the Lions came in fifth overall. The only teams with better drafts were Washington, Buffalo, Arizona and Tennessee.

?I was also a huge fan of LB Jahlani Tavai and several of the Lions? picks on Day 3, but Hockenson can be a true difference-maker for the Detroit offense,? Brugler wrote. ?He will make an immediate impact as both a blocker and pass catcher, helping spring runs for Kerryon Johnson and providing Matthew Stafford with a valuable target.?

If you?ve been following draft coverage all weekend, you may remember Brugler?s name as one of the few NFL Draft analysts that had Lions second-round pick Jahlani Tavai as a Day 2 prospect. He was Brugler?s fourth-best linebacker in this class.

Tavai was one of my favorite players in this draft. "Out of sight, out of mind" for many because he played at Hawaii and his shoulder kept him from the Senior Bowl and Combine.
But Tavis is an ideal modern day LB. Inside-out versatility and can play any down.

Bryant could make an impact immediately...
Oruwariye will probably start....
Tavaii will start for sure....
Harris could beat out Walker too...

That's 4 guys on defense that could make an impact almost immediately. Even the kid from Arizona was a good pick in the 7th. This might be a whole new look on defense..

Thats an absolute best case scenerio tony.

I think Bryant plays behind Okwara...Kennard starts on the other side which is the position i was hoping to upgrade this offseason.

I think Melvin plays over Oruwariye

Tavaii starts next to Davis in the middle.

Harris plays behind Walker and probably gets several snaps with 3 safety looks where hes covering a te.

Hockenson B+ slight reach in value, fills a need.
Tavaii C- reach. Fills a need.
Harris C not much of a need...wont play full time. Versatile.
Bryant B good value...current back up.
Oruwariye B+ great value at position of need.
