Official Day 3 Draft Thread

My only real question mark is the 3rd rd cb. Will he even play over lawson bentley? Will he be a safety? Just hate 3rd rd corners.....

Love that we focused on need. Just thought it was odd how we went about it and it cost us on value. We elevated character and lost some talent value. But with that said......when we asked everyone on here prior to the draft what we should draft.... almost everyone said ol dt cb rb.

Nice draft....they obviously were targeting certain guys and that cost them some picks. We did lose a 5th and a 3rd to get the guys we got. Like all the guys we got. ...just not where we got them.

Win a title, and no one will care or remember where they got drafted.

There is no way at this time to know if anyone was good or bad value. No way to know until they preform..

The thing I like a lot about Carter is that he has no real ego. He wants to learn and get better. He's the right guy to draft and let him learn for a year or two from Matthis.

If we went out and got a high round guy, would he be willing to shut up and learn, or would he have the "I'm a high round pick here to take your job old man" attitude with Mathis?

Carter was the guy I wanted in the 3rd, and for that reason.

Is your link saying he has great pad level KDP?

I don't know, lol. The article kinda contradicts itself. IN the strengths paragraph it compliments his pad level, followed by the weaknesses paragraph stating that he doesn't show power at pad level some times. So, your guess is as good as mine.

Nothing wrong with a guy that has "the job is mine" mentality.

Nope, if the guy is good enough to take the job. In my opinion, there isn't a CB in this years draft, including Waynes, good enough to take the job from a vet like Matthis year one. It was a weak corner class, and Waynes benefitted from being the best of a weak group.

I don't want a guy who doesn't listen. I want a guy willing to learn and get better. Our biggest asset with Matthis this year is his willingness to tutor his replacement. We need to take advantage of that and get a guy he can mold.

I feel ya. I was on the Marcus Peters train though. I think he was the #1 CB in the draft

As long as he doesn't become a salty bitch if he doesn't get it.

Exactly. Plus in Carter, he provides and immediate presence if Digs does hold out, because he can play safety or corner.

Versatility, attitude, character, and pedigree (son of Tom Carter of the Redskins, who wasn't a horrible corner at all). Kid has everything I like in a player.

Wasn't Peters the guy with the history of having extreme arguments with his coaches?

No thanks, I pass on that. I want a guy who will learn from the vets, not a guy who won't even listen to his coaches.

i agree weak class....and waynes was a high round pick because its such a weak class. Which makes me hate 3rd rd corners in a weak class even more lol. You have Lawson and Bentley to play dime/nickel. This guy is not our starter of the future. Seattle is the only team in the last 3 decades to get so much production from a bunch of mid round secondary players. It just doesn't happen. Im sure we will have our "how you would have done it" thread but personally I would have went DL, OL, RB, DL with what was on the board at the time.

Since I called for Ameer and Carter ahead of the pick, I really can't go back later and say "Well, I would have taken someone else". So he damned well better be what I think he is, or he's going to make me look stupid.

Michael Bennet
Ifo Ekpre-Olomu
Anthony Jefferson
Dezmin Lewis

Those are the guys I still would love to have.

I don't see any rook coming in and not taking full advantage of what Mathis can teach him, let alone just viewing him as competition. If that was the case with any corner we drafted I would be immediately turned off by them. Very Titus-ish. Peters would shadow Mathis' every step imo. Mathis is a very good mentor for a young corner, just ask Slay.

Lots of early round rookies have come into the league with that mentality. They think if they are a first round guy, the job is theirs, period.

When you don't have a guy at a position, take a guy early. But when you have a vet the kid will play behind, take one a little later and let him learn and be humble.

Usually works out better.

Did his Dad play with Mayhew in Washington? I'm wondering..
