*Official UM Hoops Thread*

This is BS, right? I mean, you don't think people want Michigan to be good at basketball? Ok, maybe not desperately, like I want to eat, but I think there are a lot of people that want Michigan to be good at basketball. Some of us just know that there are a lot of factors at play here.

Ticket sales don't suck at Crisler. They sell a lot of tickets. Attendance sucks at Crisler. People buy the tickets and then don't bother to go. Student ticket sales aren't the best...It isn't because people don't want Michigan to be good at basketball, it's because Crisler sucks. It's in a horrible location. There is no parking unless you want to spend more money. It just isn't worth dropping $100, which is what you need to do to get them on stubhub., because the scalpers buy up all the tickets.

Plenty of people care about Michigan basketball.

Ticket sales aren't going well. When you're struggling to sell student tickets, it's a problem. http://www.freep.com/story/sports/c...gan-basketball-student-ticket-sales/82911286/

I don't buy the horrible location line for Crisler. It's right by Michigan Stadium. Neither are difficult to get to. I walk to Crisler from my hotel when I come up. It's only a 2 mile walk and I do it in whatever weather.

I know people ultimately people want Michigan basketball to be good, but they are pretty indifferent about it. If basketball sucks, but football is great, most people won't care much.

Why are you asking him Hungry? Why don't you address me? You and your BF need to double up?

Classic. "Ticket sales are fine."
Article posted about crappy ticket sales.

The Palace is in the freaking subs, and when they were playing well, you couldn't find a seat in the house. Don't sell me on location. That's just the classic upper-brow excuses for the program.

People generally do not care about the program. They cared for two years, and went back to sleep.

I brought this up the last time, but didn't they expand the student section a few years ago? Are they truly not getting many students to attend, or did they overreach? And what does this prove anyway? That students don't support the team when it's not good/great? No different than football there.

Yeah, horrible excuses like, his best 3 players got hurt...or his best player and one of the first subs off the bench...yet they still competed, won some tough games, and made the NCAA's

yet, the coach saw the need for changes and made moves in the offseason

What else should they have done? You still can't answer that one.

I still love JB and I am very happy with the changes he made this offseason. I had a pipe dream of him bringing Juwan Howard on as an assistant, but I do love the hires he made.

I am really hoping that moving DJ to the 4 will greatly benefit him. It would be nice to have a guy playing at the 4 that can match up with the bigger 4s we play. I do not want to see Irvin getting beat to death all year again. Irvin could be much better on the offensive if he's not having to match up with guys like Swanigan, Robert Carter, etc. Irvin's jumper will also need to be more consistent. His form may or may not allow that, but we will see.

I am crossing my fingers that Ibi can contribute as a freshman. The kid has some bounce and looks good finishing around the rim in his tape. Big 10 is a whole different beast.

I already got specific and stated that it isn't ticket sales, it's student ticket sales, which was discussed in your article. The piece says nothing about general ticket sales, which people would know, if they went to the mgoblue.com website and tried to buy a ticket...

I want Michigan basketball to be at the level of MSU. Excuse me while I go vomit now.

I think we all do

MSU hasn't had a player leave early for the draft since Gary Harris...how long ago was that?

When was the last time their best player missed 2 straight seasons?

How good do you think MSU would have done if Valentine had missed the entire big 10, instead of just a couple games where they played like crap? Keep in mind, MSU didn't win the big 10 and lost in the first round...

They don't open up the golf course for Michigan basketball games...

Again, read the article...it's strictly about student tickets.

People think that because they won the big 10 1 year, then went to the national championship game one year, they should be UK...that is the problem here.

I didn't address you, Dubbs, because i assumed you'd read it and answer. I was half right...

When questions don't suit your agenda, you just ignore them

How many games have you attended the last 2 years?

What would you have rather seen Michigan do over this offseason? Fire Beilein? Come on, man, I know that is your answer, but for some reason, you just don't want to come out and say it.

Nah, you were just trying to be a smart ass, but it's all good.

Actually, I've gone to about 4 to 6 games per year. Which is probably 4 to 6 more than the average Michigan student goes to.

Nope. And if you actually read any of what I've said throughout all of this discussion, you'll note that I've not once said he needs to be fired. But it's coming up on the make or break for the next couple of seasons. If the team doesn't show big improvement, what exactly is the program hoping to do? And because this upcoming season basically brings back the entire mediocre team, what's the plan here?

Oh I completely understand that injuries can derail a season. It really sucks it has happened two years in a row for us.

I hate our early departures. As great as those players were for Michigan, none of them were ready for the NBA. The problem is you can't blame them for leaving. The NBA has somehow made being 22 "old".

There have been seasons where Michigan State lost key players chunks at a time. It was a running joke one year that they couldn't get anyone to stay healthy. They still make it work, consistently.

LeVert wouldn't have taken this team anything further than a S16. Even with him healthy last year early, they got swatted by inferior opponents.

so you went to 4-6 games this past season and 4-6 games 2 seasons ago? Why not just answer? You don't remember the exact number?

Michigan brought in 4 new players and 2 new assistant coaches. I'm thinking these new assistant coaches might teach the current and new players some things. I'm hoping another year in the gym helps those guys that were here last year improve. I think that is the plan...anyone with a brain should see this.

so no one is going to answer the question about how they felt MSU would have done last season without Valentine? What is multiple players weren't there, because they went pro? Keep in mind MSU didn't win the big 10 and lost in the first round...

so, Dubbs, in the 8-12 games that you attended the last 2 seasons, how many times were you able to find tickets in the lower bowl on the mgoblue website? I'm betting 'none,' because i look for these and can never find them...

When I go to basketball games, I usually post about my experience here. I guess not everyone does that. It might just be in passing like, "Was at the game..." or I might give a full report post.

Don't really remember very many people around here doing that.

I answered. Sorry it wasn't clear. It would have derailed their season as well.

Thank you.

I'd even be willing to bet that they wouldn't have been as good as 10-8 in conference. Of course, it's just a guess.

I could see that. They were very dependent on him.

I honestly believe most of us are pretty anxious about next year because so much is unknown. Irvin and Walton haven't hit the level we all hoped for and we don't really have a major immediate impact guy coming in. We could be scrapping for a tourney spot again.

However, we could see major improvements from Wagner, Rahk, Robinson and Wilson. That would make the team really solid. Plus, no more Dakich if our PGs stay healthy!

The past two years had such great expectations that were met with frustrating injuries, disappointment, recruiting busts, and some truly embarrassing blowouts. I think that's why some of us lean to the pessimistic side even though there are some reasons for optimism.
