OT Joe Pa and Penn St

The reality is, there is no bright side to this story at all. It really doesn't matter if JoePa knew, or if he didn't. It doesn't matter who told who, or who didn't say enough.

The tragedy of the whole thing is the children who were hurt in all of this. At the end of the day, that's really all that matters.

I hope whoever allowed this to happen pays a dear price for it all. I have a hard time believing that Paterno knew as much as the media is letting on, or did as little as they say, but if I am wrong on that, I hope he pays as much as anyone else for being complicit in something like this.

The truth for me is that I have a ton of respect for JoePa and everything he has done in that community, and I really don't want to believe he knew or stood silent. He said "let the legal process unfold" and I really want to give him the benefit of the doubt until there is real proof otherwise.

I lost all respect for Jo Pa. Jerry Sandusky is his friend and this stinks of a cover up. He knew about it and Sandusky got fired over it. Then, Jo Pa allows him to bring kids back onto the campus?

Just heard that Jo Pa has decided to retire at the end of the season. That old bastard shouldn't be allowed to be on the sideline this week! They should fire his ass right now! Jim Tressle is done coaching after Tat-Gate and Jo Pa continues to coach after little boys get raped under his watch. Disgusting!

Joe Pa and anyone involved will be put on administrative leave before Saturday's game. Anyone one involved will never return to Penn State.

He and McQueary need to never see the field again EVER. I posted a bigger rant on the U of M board but McQueary needs to never have a job in football around kids again.

It's sickening how they are protecting Paterno through all of this. Joe Paterno is the most powerful man at PSU, period. Come on people, Paterno knows if his 3rd string kicker gets a C on a test, but he doesn't know anything? His Defensive coordinator was investigated in 1998, Joe had to know this. So the whole thing in 2002 should not have come as a surprise.

What's worse is that this is what has come out now, what other events were covered up sufficiently? Talk about lack of institutional control? How about controlling the locker room enough so that assistant coaches aren't repeatedly anally raping children in the showers?

This is Joe Paterno's football program, he has regularly been described as a hands on control freak who wanted to know everything all the time. Now they're expecting us to believe he didn't know much about something this huge? Sure.

According to reports this morning, the Second Mile foundation was also made aware of this problem years ago, but continued to let Sandusky hang out with little kids.

If that is true, I have nothing left to say in defense of JoePa. He banned Sandusky from bringing kids onto the campus... which indicates he at least knew of the allegations. His foundation was made aware, and yet he continued to put young kids in danger by letting them visit privately with an accused molester.

It seems as though, as much as I didn't want to believe it, JoePa may have turned a blind eye to the entire problem and may have put more little kids at risk not only with his silence, but his lack of direct action.

I was wrong about the man. I really wanted to believe he was just being caught up in the media shit storm that hit his program... but it seems much worse than that now.

If everything being said about him is true, he should spend his remaining days in prison right next to Sandusky.

he still had his camps on Penn St property...they just moved them off the immediate main campus.

This is just creepy:

In the introduction of the book, Richeal, who was born with hip dysplasia and is disabled, describes an "odd" question posed by Sandusky when they first met:

[quote:r4mv2onb]My first real contact with Jerry Sandusky came from a rather odd question he posed to me: "How much do you weigh, young man?" I was puzzled, because I knew he wasn't interested in me as a linebacker, but I told him I weighed about 95 pounds. "Get up on that scale," he ordered. I did and the locker room scale topped out at 96. "Not bad," Jerry said, trying to sound as mean as possible, "but you still have some work to do." Sensing my confusion, Jerry stared at me and continued. "We gotta get you up to 100 pounds before you're ready to fight me." Fight him? I barely knew him. "When you get to 100 pounds, it's gonna be you and me in the center of the locker room in a boxing match. Then I'll show you who the real boss is. It'll be you and me eyeball-to-belly button."
[/quote:r4mv2onb]

and

"Now, you know, I'd be kind of uncomfortable," Richeal said. "But I had no reason to be then. It was just a running gag because I weighed under 100 pounds. He'd say, you know, 'We gotta put some meat on those bones.'"

I guess even physically disabled college-age students were fair game, so long as they resemble a young boy in physique. Disgusting.

All sorts of nasty rumors being investigated now...

I heard on the radio this morning, a reporter in boston reports:
It is being investigated that Sandusky pimped out kids to donors. Also, that there was a major cover up at the time of his retirement.

That can't be true...I mean if it is...I don't even know...I just can't see it though, pimping kids to donors?

As a guy who used to work in Financial Aid, I would imagine the Department of Ed could possibly revoke Title IV funding which would mean no student loans, no Pell Grants, Perkins Loans, etc. This could fuck Penn State on so many levels.

This whole story is already about as disturbing and heart breaking as a story could be, and it's certainly not the way I would have ever imagined JoePa finishing out his career.

To think it could be that much worse, to think kids might have been pimped out.... I just can't wrap my brain around that. I fucking pray that just isn't true. It's already bad enough, I strongly hope that is just the creation of Internet myth and rumor.

What I really don't get is how the board of trustees determined Joe needed to be fired for not going to the police and doing more, but the eye witness, McQuery, is going to coach this Saturday... and all he did was go to Joe.

Talk about a fucked up double standard.
